Hey! Wouldn't that violate the photo standards you talked about recently?

Basically, anything racier than a Victoria's Secret catalog would be too much. So, I think any point we're trying to make could be made safely -- barely.

...Could it be that the picture at beyondthebets was faked?
It does look so. Firstly my recording was taken off the BBC1 live (anyone who has a spare 603Mb is welcome to a copy!). However I have found (Google Madonna SuperBowl pictures 6Mb) more photos (some pretty revealing) at thesuperficial such as this one which comes from the "Vogue" song where she was upside down quite a lot - again no fishnets in sight.

Based on that photo, I would say she does have them. You can see lines around the ... area. At least this does seem to end any debate about stockings or pantyhose. It is a small pattern, so low-resolution pictures tend to blend them into her skin color, but I think you can barely tell with this one.

Hmmm. Then what is the difference between a bustier and a girdle?

I expect Paco to help us with some images any second now.

Bustier is a French word. These garments always use the upper midsection for support.

Brassiere from French brassière , from Old French braciere "arm guard", from Latin bracchium. Refers to the "arm". Spanish for "arm" is brazos.

I think that bras have been around long enough that the word has expanded to include undergarments that do not use arms. But it's beginning was clearly related to the arm.

Girdle is from Anglo Saxon gyrdel "belt, sash, cord about the waist". The current usage is only from 1925 where the sash became elastic undergarment.

With all due respect to Nareed, I think the spirit of the bet was whether she would be wearing fishnet anythings on her legs. Thus, I'm going to pay up.

Your choice. But if the terms of the bet say "stockings," you should argue it.

I think I would be in for a huge argument if I tried to argue they were pantyhose, starting with the question "How would you know the difference?"

If she wore stockings, you'd see the garter either at the top of the boot or reaching into it. It's too much hassle to wear stockings with with thigh-high boots.

Then shouldn't any strapless bra be called a bustier?

That's why I don't like to make bets like this, at least between friends.

If you bet on "no", you're expected to honor the bet and pay up. If you bet on "yes", you can always be confronted with the argument that it wasn't stockings, and end up pushing the bet.

Actually around "the ... area" it's hard to tell. (LOVE those ellipsis!)

It's easier to see on her thighs. And you're right about the low-res.

Gang, if you click the link for that photo, your browser will make it fit the screen. Click on her thigh to see it in high res, and you'll see the fishnets.

Done a bit more digging and here's 1, 2, 3 and 4 that clinch they were fishnets. As you say all the other pictures didn't have enough pixels.

Next time probably pays to stay clear of such fishy prob bets!

My fiance says they are without a doubt fishnet type stockings and that trying to class them as something else because it doesn't meet a SUPER specific pattern criteria is ridiculous. HOWEVER, she says the casino has a case since they didn't specify whether or not stockings include garter attached thigh highs/knee highs. The importance here is the coverage of the garment.

Thigh High Fishnet attached to garter

She says to her, this is included under a "stocking" but the casino could refute that and they should have been more specific with the definition prior to taking bets.

She went on to explain the two different types of stockings that women wear. One that they wear as kind of a jumpsuit bottoms only that is a one piece that fits on both legs and partway up the torso. The other that goes up to the knee (knee high, thigh high) or thereabouts and can be attached up higher or not.

Would have been better to bet on her wearing a hat or not. ;)
