You become a champion by beating everyone else. How you do it isn't germane. It's doing it that will make you a champion.

a very interesting question. i would say that with few exceptions the way a person becomes a champion at anything is with a mix of exceptional talent and an exceptional work ethic. great talent is not enough because there are going to be people with great talent who work tremendously hard and they will beat others with great talent who don't work exceptionally hard. working exceptionally hard is not enough because some who work exceptionally hard will also have great talent. even though a person may not be able to become among the very best without great talent, i would say that they can go very far by working very hard at most endeavors.
