I won a free entry into a 3 Card Poker tournament at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. I assume I will be playing against the house as usual and the players who win the most "money" will be the winners. Of course, it is a game of luck but is there any special strategy I should use in this situation?

This applies to all tourneys:

Wait for your turn to bet. Make note of what the players before you bet and act accordingly.

If a player acts out of turn, ask if that is binding. If so, use that info.

It's tough to put together a strategy unless you know all the rules. Usually though, I find that it's best to bide your time early and let other people lose their chips before you make a move at the end.

But then again, it depends on the rules. If there's 6 at a table, and top 2 advance to the next round you can afford to be more patient than if only the top person advances.

Since it's a tournament with a small sample size, I wouldn't worry about Pair Plus having the higher house edge. You're going to need to play it to win. But once again, if you play conservative until the last 2-3 hands, and put the rest of your chips out there for those last 2-3 hands and hit a flush or better on one of them, you have a great shot at advancing.

The advice above was good. I played in a Three Card Poker tournament at the Hilton years ago. As I recall, the max bet was small compared to the starting bankroll. Only the top player advanced. About half way through one of my opponents hit a three of a kind or straight flush with a big bet on the Pairplus. At that point I started betting enough on the Pairplus to catch up with a 30-1 or 40-1 hand, but never hit one.
