Anyone ever been to the Wheeling Island Casino in West Virginia? I'm heading down that way over the weekend and may check it out. How are the craps odds and bet min/max there? More than one craps table?

Thanks!

In a twist of irony, I may be stopping there tonight. If I get to, I'll let you know what it looks like.

Been there a few times, mostly for poker. Never saw the craps odds but they have been getting more aggressive since PA has started the march towards table games. If you go on the weekend expect a min of $10-15. Not sure of max but BJ has $100+ max tables so use that as a guide. It is nothing special compared to Vegas but not bad as far as what it is, something more than a pure "locals" place but not competing with anything else.

If shows are your thing, check out who is playing before you go. Children of the 70s and 80s will often find the group they couldn't see back then playing now.

If you go during weekdays (Monday-Thursday, until about 10PM or so), they'll usually have a $2 craps table open, which is nice especially considering the generous 10X odds.

(Of course, that still didn't stop me from losing $400 in a 1/2 hour due to very bad luck, but hopefully yours will be better...)

The big problem with Wheeling is that they frequently don't open up enough tables to meet demand. I know some of the dealers there and they frequently complain about working 2+ hours straight without a break (60 minutes on, 20 off is the norm). They have 4 craps tables, but usually only 2 open at any given time and it can be hard to find a spot at them. They also advertise $5 blackjack tables during weekdays, but usually it's only 2 tables and they also stay jam-packed.

I considered taking the course for being a dealer down there but my regular job kept getting extended and now I have a better one yet coming up so it stays "Plan B." What always scared me is that dealers gave wildly different numbers on what you made, plus I hear they kind of abuse dealers on the extra board by keeping them on the EB forever and sending them home early often.

Wheeling is far enough from home that I usually just play hookey from work and get there around noon. Play poker with all the other degenerates doing the same thing. Haven't noticed what is open or crowds, but did notice the $5 tables open during the day.

Didn't that guy who was second in the World Series of Poker this year, Darvin Moon, win his entry at Wheeling Island?

Been once, didn't like it. Nothing to distinguish it from other dumps. Good poker I hear. Table games blah, Slots old and second hand. Town is kind of interesting if you like post-industrial detritus. Won't be back.

If poker is your main thing then go to Mountaineer just up the river. Bigger poker room and no "casino noise" if that bothers you. More poker games and tourneys. Plus a waitress with an Ivana Trump Accent that is known all along the panhandle.

I've heard her. The one time I did I was convinced it was faked. Isn't it a French accent?

Sounded more German or Northern European to me but then what do I know.

When I first herad her someone at the table actually said "You've got to be kidding me!" after she left.

I didn't get to Wheeling last night, though I was at Horseshoe Hammond today. It was pretty decent. 100x odds on Craps. They also had blackjack switch but I didn't have time to play.
