When playing Ultimate Texas Hold em at the Casino, is it better if you are splitting winnings with someone else to play side by side or pool the money and let one person play

Depends on the reason you're playing.

Depends on the reason you're playing.

I was doing some research on UTH and came across this old thread. If played, "by the book", there is no point in this game where the player has an advantage. Therefore, my initial thought is that it is better to pool the bankrolls and play one hand at double the base bet, hoping to catch positive variance in as few hands as possible. However, much of the money in made in this game by catching the "lightning" hands (Royal, Straight flush, quads), and it makes sense that seeing more hands increases your chances of hitting one of them. Unfortunately, this means you will lose your individual bankrolls faster as the HA still chews on your combined base bets each round, and for each winning hand in a round, chances are you will lose some or all the others, since the composition of the hands are dependent on each other.

For this reason, unless you are sharing hole card information, I would recommend only playing one hand, and doubling the base bet. If you happen to hit a big hand, you can maximize your payout since you started with a larger base bet. However, I am very interested in what the Wizard, or the others on the board would recommend.
