My 1st time in LV next year and thinking of two hotels, but can't decide which one. The venetian or the Signature at MGM. From reviews the Signature at MGM
appears have a few reviews with dirty sheets etc and the venetian looks stunning compared to the Signature at MGM from photos on trip advisor etc. I realise there is a difference in price and I don't intend to spend much time in hotel, but as its a special trip is the venetian so much better as it looks? Any advice is appreciated.
[EDIT] I am looking for good hotel on or close to the strip that is nice. I'm not bothered if it has a casino, but would like a hotel I can book with resort fees, tax included so I have no surprises!! For 5 nights in September I had budgeted around £750 including everything, but struggling at the moment. Venetian have the 25% 1st time discount I can use.

If you want good advice, tell us a bit more about what you are looking for...there may be other options that people could provide that are better in value or more information that people can give you about the two you have chosen.

TripAdvisor is a great resource but I think almost every resort in Vegas suffers from a few negative reviews for housekeeping issues. Sometimes they are true, other times they seem ridiculously negative about very minor issues. Housekeeping thousands of rooms and maintaining good quality control over each and every one of them is always going to be tough. Not saying it shouldn't be done right; just that it is a lot to watch over and get perfect.

Remember, too, that we have a tendency to write negative reviews more quickly than positive ones... I always wait a week or so before doing my TA reviews just to make sure I am a bit more fair in them.

There a lot of special places and rooms in Las Vegas; the good thing is that you can often get them at very good rates!!

Good luck in planning your trip!

Best time to book for Vegas is between 6 weeks and 3 months in advance. But think about what you want. Look at the restaurants and shops in the resort and see if those places are the types of venues you can afford. For instance, if hotel was the only concern, I could stay at the Venetian all day, every day, but I can't eat 3 meals a day there for an entire week.

The #1 complaint I get about the MGM Signature is that the walk is lengthy to get to anything in the MGM, so that could be a concern if mobility is an issue.

Both are very good hotels and both are in prime locations. Venetian toward the northern end of the strip by Wynn, TI, Palazzo etc. MGM is at probably the busiest intersection on the strip. Keep in mind too, that you might compare the rates at Palazzo to Venetian as they basically are the same hotel.

One more I could recommend for you is try Delano by Mandalay Bay. I stayed there when it was called TheHotel, but it was a fantastic place, the rooms are all suites, and the restaurant atop of it on the 64th floor offers some of the best views of the strip you will see anywhere.

Travelzoo also seems to have some pretty good deals for lodging and shows here.

I really loved Desert Paradise. It is a timeshare, off the strip but with free shuttle, that you can book through Expedia.Varies from $45-$75 a night.

Also, if rates are high and you are booking at the last minute, try HOTWIRE. Mrs. Q got a good rate at the Westgate (was Las Vegas Hilton once upon a time). They didn't name the property until after you booked, but from the description we knew what it was.

I think that's good guidance, but with one caveat: if you book on those websites, rather than with the hotel itself, you give up any chance of VIP/host comps for your room. (When you use one of those, you commit the hotel to paying the discounter, so they WILL charge you.) If you're going to be playing big enough to be considered for room comps but don't have them in advance, you might want to call and book directly. You can even tell them that Hotwire/whoever is showing rooms for x amount; could they offer that to you directly? Sometimes they will, since it's their computer that generated that 3rd party price.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

You have about $225 usd per night in your budget. Rooms at the Venetian run about $149 usd per night, so you are right in there, even after taxes and fees. (If your budget includes gambling and food, it is very, very tight.) Please note that there is an American holiday on the first Monday in September, so prices will be higher that weekend. Avoid it if you can.

I have had bad experiences with Expedia.com and cannot recommend them. BBB's advice about booking directly with the hotel is wise. The Venetian offers a best price guarantee, so it will be competitive.
