A reasonable person would say drinking and gambling don't mix well, I say screw that. You are on vacation, the drinks are free, have some fun. BTW, craps is a great game to play while drinking. Very social, plus you don't have to do any math or make decisions, particularly if you stick with the basic bets. |

Think I will. Wasn't aware of the "buy one get one" promotion until fremont mentioned it. Will definitely follow up on that. Thanks. |

I just got back from the Nuggett--$59/night for Friday and Saturday. Start lower than than, though. The rooms are unusually huge, very nice, even in the old towers. Who started the vicious rumor that gambling and drinking don't mix? I'd like a word. That's a poker rule, folks (and card counting, which is only for full-time gamblers). Not drinking while you play blackjack/craps is like refusing to eat while you're at a restaurant. |

May have been me. But then it's just me. I shoulnd't drink while I gamble. I get sleepy and distracted. I also begin to believe the sucker bets are not that bad, so I place them. Fortunately casino waitresses will just as easily fetch diet coke. A soul is a terrible thing to waste on religion |

While I did not start the vicious rumor, I will take responsibility for repeating it. In my defense, I have read it in a book, more than once. Admittedly though, most of those books were written for people who take gambling way more seriously than I do (card counters and such). I'm a BS player at the table and figure, now that I've had a couple years of experience under my belt, that the entertainment value of playing recreational blackjack will improve with with a drink or two. Thanks for setting me straight on that! |

| StingMe Member since: May 24, 2010 Threads: 4 Posts: 39 | I am about to compose a trip report from this past weekend, and saw several things in this thread that relate directly to my trip, so i thought i'd jump in here before i start my lengthy review. First, I drank while I played. A LOT, as a matter of fact. I play low stakes games, and just don't get crazy, and agree that drinking makes it more social, and the drinks are comped, so I take advantage of that. Second, we "pricelined" our room at the Golden Nugget for $59, just as mentioned above, and with a few details which will be revealed during my upcoming review, I think I'm a customer for life there. Wonderful experience. More to come.... See "June 10-13 Downtown Trip Report" |

I think the tower suites are one of the real amazing deals in the city as they are large and have sitting room and a nice view of the city. I don't care if the furniture and TV are ancient. The bathrooms is a little small for many women. The bad rooms at the El Cortez are the Pavilion rooms. If Wi-Fi is important, the new coffee shop across the street has free Wi-Fi. In most hotels it is $12 a day. They don't rent computers, but if you have a laptop it is convenient. Wine loved I deeply, dice dearly -Edgar, betrayed son of Gloucester in King Lear |

Thanks. If we end up at the ELCO, will definitely be selective about the type of room. |
