Wish us luck...

What kind of crowds did you see at the Sands-Bethlehem?

The reason I ask is that Saturday night, my wife and I went to Mohegan Sun-Pocono Downs but left for the lack of a parking spot. The crowd there was phenomenal.

It was a complete and utter blow out.

We were trolling around (along with a ton of other amazingly aggressive folks) the rather sizable parking lot in search of a place to park for about 20 minutes and then decided it wasn't worth it.

So we left.

I note that you mentioned the car give-away thing...I think that is what was going on at MSPD; but I'm not sure.

I've seen crowds like this at events (eg. Giants game at Giants Stadium, Phillies at Citizens Bank, Rolling Stones concert, etc., etc., but never at a place only conducting normal business.

And to think, the horses weren't running and there are no table games in place.

Was this similar to what you saw at the Sands?

I couldn't estimate the actual size of the crowd, but it was huge. The Sands is bigger and has more parking, but it was jammed. We got there around 5 (drawing was at 7), had to park on the top floor of the parking garage (we would have anyhow) and spent quite a bit of our time there looking for any machine to play, let alone two side by side. And there were quite a few people who simply activated their card and then stood around waiting. After the drawing, for the next half hour the lines for the restaurants were maybe 50 deep, they cleared quickly though and at 7:45 we were seated in about 10 minutes. After dinner the room was maybe 40% full, not too crowded at all.

We ate at the St James Place Inn; I was prepared to like it, but it wasn't all that good, not like RiRa at Tropicana in AC (which I think is excellent). The soup starter, chicken and white bean, was really good, but my corned beef entree was tough and Mrs Mosca's chicken salad club was mediocre, she said the chicken had that "day old and reheated" taste that chicken gets when the fat isn't properly trimmed. And the service was slow, even after the rush had died down.


Yep, car giveaway at Mohegan; we would have gone there Saturday, too, for that drawing, but I worked until 7. We do valet parking at Mohegan. It's free, and the anticipated average tip is $2, so IMO it is worth it to drive up to the door and let them park your car, at least in the winter. Any idea on where the tables are going at Mohegan? I would expect in the old section, but that would be odd, don't you think? I's a bit of a stroll from the slots, and there isn't a lot of room. I'm sure they've had the pros look at the floor plan, and I'm sure that the tables were anticipated when the place was designed and built. I'm curious.

I figure the car is worth about $40K-ish (pretty sure it's not a -V). Figure sales tax of $2400, income tax of $8000. So I can sell the car for a little below net-net value and make some dough, or we can sell Mrs Mosca's car to pay the taxes and she can have a sweet ride!

Assuming that wishing us luck actually BRINGS luck. That one is still being reviewed.

We also have $75 in free slot play between us (50/25). If I luck that up to $500 like I did the last time we were there, screw it; I'm shoveling $500 into the $100 Wheel of Fortune machine. I've never played a $100 slot before, the only way I'd do it is if I started with nothing and wound up with something to turn back into nothing, for the chance to get my heart pumping. And of course that would never happen twice in a row, so it's not going to happen. But if it does, well, wish us luck!

If I was to wish you luck, wouldn't that mean there would be less luck available for me? :-)

From what I understand, the table games are going in the old section below the area that has the Shufflemaster Blackjack machines (the stairs leading down to the area were cordoned off the last time I was there but some construction activity was evident). While that location is convenient to the harness racing/turf club, it is a bit of a ways from the slots. Since my interest lies in the blackjack and harness racing, I like the location.

I admit, it is a bit odd though...
