Just noticed more advertising space going up on the site and remembered the Wizard saying in his last review about the site not doing so well financially.

I dont know about anyone else but I would happily contribute for a membership of the site, if it meant keeping it going.

When the new forums are online maybe a membership system is the next step?

Discuss.

Membership only forums tend to get populated by too many like-minded people.

While that may be great for professional / business forums, I don't think it's such a good idea here.

well, well, Bodog finally came through! I was starting to think they didnt like the idea of a free speech discussion board.
the next time Dame Fortune toys with your heart, your soul and your wallet, raise your glass and praise her thus: “Thanks for nothing, you cold-hearted, evil, damnable, nefarious, low-life, malicious monster from Hell!”   She is, after all, stone deaf. ... Arnold Snyder

Oops, just noticed I didnt make myself clear and left out a important word. Voluntary. I meant to say voluntary membership.

It wouldnt be a membership only forum but anyone who wanted to contribute to keep the site running could do so, in exchange for a gold star or something.

Voluntary? That IS a different story.

I'd be happy to throw the Wiz a couple bucks - as long as I'm not the only one!

Thats the line I was thinking along. We'd be able to contribute in a more meaningful way to the future of the site, and the gold star thing was just a way for supporters of the site to know they are not alone.

It will be interesting to hear the Wizards view.

If throwing in $20-$30 would actually mean something I would enjoy donating it. If it would be pennies compared to what something like this bodog ad gives, I'd be less inclined.
Its - Possessive; It's - "It is" / "It has"; There - Location; Their - Possessive; They're - "They are"

Thanks for your concern, and those who offered to make a contribution. I'm still not at the point where I need to ask for charity...yet. Again, I appreciate the offers.

The Bodog ad is not brining in much, significantly less than what I spend on JB's salary and the rights to the Current Blackjack Newsletter, not to mention old expenses I've already paid on other writers and modeling. The OneTravel ad, which I just took down, brought in exactly nothing. However, in many businesses it takes a year or two to turn a profit. The Wizard of Odds site does well, so I can afford to take a loss on this site for a while. I have thought about having a paid premium membership area, like the "green chip" and "black chip" pages on bj21.com. However, I'm not sure what additional value I have to offer on the premium pages. Perhaps some prop suggestions for the Super Bowl, but it will be another year before that will do anybody any good.

On a positive note, traffic is getting better, and many improvements are in store for the near future. I'm hoping by the end of the year the site will be making a profit.

When I go to Vegas in June I'll happily donate some blogs, articles and photo content if the Wizard would like.

I do a little writing in my spare time, and am looking forward to the blogging features JB mentioned in the site improvements. I was thinking of doing something similar to the style of Cocktaildoll, but revolving around dealers, and some general rants about casinos.
