There was a story after Vdara opened that the sun at certain times of year would be magnified onto the pool area and was melting cups and "cooking" people.

What was ever done about that?

Management forebade employees to use the term Death Ray or variants thereof, CWs went right on using it ... in return for a tip the CW would tell you where to place your plastic cup for two hours. If you bet Two Greens or Better in the Pool Area Blackjack, you could tip the dealer and get someone else's melted plastic cup without having to wait. Cooking plastic, yes. Cooking people, ... they would have to remain in the focus area and move with it for over two hours. Not likely to happen voluntarily.

I was told yes, but I always thought only Aria had a casino and that the Something Orange hotel also lacked a casino.

The last I heard, they were changing the coating on the glass to reduce the intensity of the reflection. I also understand the staff was alerted to move folks out of the blast zone during peak periods of exposure.

Since the pool at Vdara has been attended to, perhaps they can help the power company in the Mojave desert with their In Flight Solar Bird Fryer. Apparently, birds flying through the concentrated rays of the solar power collector are bursting into flames while still in mid-air. They even have a term for them, "Streamers"

Swell.

Unfortunately, the fix for Vdara won't work for the solar fields. It was a coating on the glass that greatly reduced the reflection. Doing that to the solar field would reduce the efficiency of the solar field. It needs a different solution, perhaps something similar to what is used at airports to keep birds away from runways. But that isn't entirely successful either.
