I have been trying to include some images in a post for almost 60 minutes -and I just can't get it. The Forum's "Guide to Formatting Codes" uses an example for posting an image off of this (WOV) website - which isn't very helpful. I realize I need to upload the images to an external site and then write a link to the external website in the WOV post - but I can't seem to make that work

Could someone recommend an external site for posting the images and then give me an example of how I write the "img=xxxxxx" inside square brackets to display each of the images in a post in this forum from that specific site?

Most of us don't know how to do this, and dont have the hosting accounts needed. Many times, I can't see pics and embedded videos, maybe you're doing it right and can't see it. It would be nice if this site found a way to make it easy.

img=url

Url must end with a jpg, gif or other acceptable 3 letter designation. Some images, if you're trying a link won't have the proper designation, or you have to dig through the site code to find it.

https://railroadcatalog.com/image/cache/data/70000/77046-800x800.jpg

The above url will work with img=url because it has .jpg at the end.

See it below.

There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

1. Upload your photo to Imgur, no account needed

http://www.imgur.com

2. Copy the *direct image link* that's ends in a .jpg .png etc

Example: https://i.imgur.com/AQl1PJr_d.jpg

3. Paste that link into your post, putting this code around it:
[im*g=https://xxxxxxxxxxx.jpg] but remove the star

I figured out how to post pics. But I still wonder why these types of forums make it so difficult to upload a pic. You first have to upload the pic to a hosting site, then you have to format the URL in a specific way. Different forums have different have different formats, and wizardofvegas has one of the more complicated formats.

Why not make it like Facebook, where the player can directly upload from their device/computer with a simple click of a button? It would greatly increase site participation. It's kind of lame to have trip reviews and no pictures, which is why I always include pics with my reviews. There's a whole thread on cocktail waitresses, and not a single pic. Totally lame.

Because images use a lot of bandwidth and then you got to worry about people uploading malicious things to your website and linking uploaded pictures else where on the internet effectively stealing your bandwidth.
Assume the worst, believe no one, and make your move only when you are certain that you are unbeatable or have, at worst, exceptionally good odds in your favor.

Is this really the concern?

These days, hell, 7-8 years ago, the amount of bandwidth an image uses, even if viewed 20,000 times, is trivial.

More than offset by the value of having a more active forum. Most forums I'm on have active threads just for posting images and videos.

ALL of them allow you to post images without writing code.

I'm sure I'm not alone in that I've not posted stuff several times because I didn't feel like going through the process listed above.

As for someone posting porn or whatever, that's pretty easy to handle if it comes up, which I don't think it would.
