Looks like this year could offer a bumper crop of seemingly first-rate Sci-fi flicks.
see:
"Blade Runner 2049"
"Alien Covenant"
"Valerian"
To infinity, and beyond!

Huge fan of the Alien franchise
Alien - great
Aliens - great
Alien 3 - very good
Alien Resurrection - ok
Alien has appeared in other movies but those were cheesy
When I heard about another Alien movie
My reaction was yawn
until
I saw its directed by Ridley Scott the original director that I am a huge fan of
Now looking forward to this.
Its just a forum. Nothing here to get obsessed about.

I saw a trailer in the theater, and it looks beautiful on the big screen, but what I could cull from the story, it appears to be Standard Formula "A":
1) A group with good intentions
2) Bad things happen
3) Very bad things happen
4) A surprise reveal
5) Narrow escape at the last second
6) Wait for it... a set up for a sequel
My sense from those two minutes is that it doesn't seem as engaging as "Prometheus", I plan to wait for the Blu-Ray unless I hear something awesome from a trusted source.
Is "Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2" considered "Sci-Fi"?
Interesting that there is only one film mentioned so far that is an original vs. a sequel.

Not sure how original "Valarian" really is. From the trailer it definitely gave off a Star Wars vibe. I'm pretty sure I saw Jabba's cousin in there somewhere. The last really original Sci Fi I saw was "Arrival".
