I never had any surprises, I've always put in my destination and it shows the total price of the ride.
"Uber says that showing the upfront fare will make its pricing easier to understand. By showing one price for the ride, consumers don't have to do any math to estimate how much extra they'll pay because of, say, a 1.7X surge. And there won't be any surprises when they see the final bill."
"Uber has had trouble with riders and surge pricing in the past. New Year's Eve is notorious for riders agreeing to high surge prices without realizing that a 3.5x ride means that they'll end up with a $215 bill."
Quote: DJTeddyBearAs someone who only used Uber once, I'm not sure how this is an improvement. What used to happen?
You'd get a price of $45 x1.5 surge, or $45 x3 surge.
Some people thought they were being charged $45 plus $3 but we're charged $135. $45x3.
It was fairly clear, but a percentage of uber riders are under the influence.
I've gotten a 7x surge twice, and a 4x/5x numerous times.
Those are nice.
Did you lose a bet?Quote: teddysI drive Uber.

How often ?
What's someone make doing that per week?
Do they tip?
Should you tip?
Negative.Quote: AxelWolfDid you lose a bet?
Fairly often. Sometimes seven days a week (full-time schedule).Quote:How often ?
YMMV -- to a *very* large extent. You can improve as you get better at driving. I started at about a $8-$13 hourly, now I get $15/hour or higher. A good week with 50-60 hours can net you $800+. This is a non-coastal market so pay is lower than other places. There are also driver incentives and bonuses.Quote:What's someone make doing that per week?
Very rarely. Maybe I'll get 1.5 cash tips per 8-10 hour shift. Amount can vary from a buck or two to $15-20 for overtippers. Cash tips only.Quote:Do they tip?

You're lucky, many drivers are making less
that min wage and destroying their cars
in the process. There are a lot of entertaining
Uber stories out their, Goggle Uber nightmare,
of Uber horror. Or look for stories of drivers
who did it for a year and ran screaming for
the hills. Taxi driving with your own car for
$15 an hour, what happened to your law
degree.

Teddy drives like he's 90. :-)
Quote: Blonde4everYou don't want us to tip? I have always tipped Uber and Lyft drivers!
I always thought tip was included in fare...like that was an actual selling point of Uber. I did tip once when a drunk friend was being kinda annoying. Turns out drivers in some areas really don't do to well, so now I feel bad.
Quote: BTLWII was outside the Venetian at 4AM earlier this month and surge pricing was 1.6X but didn't show me a price to the Rio. I decided to wait it out. After 45 minutes surge pricing was still 1.4 - 1.8 so I gave in at 1.5. What a waste of 45 minutes, the ride was only $7.50.
That's crazy at 1.6 even if it was 60 dollars 30 dollars to wait 45 minutes no wayyy
So basically get the rental for free by driving the rental car with a few fares..
(I don't think I would ever do this, but just wondered about it)
LIke I know my way around Vegas really well -- if I ever flew in, I suppose that could be an idea.

Anyone who was "surprised" by the fare is either:
- Mindlessly clicking accept
- Drunk or under the influence of something else
- Incapable of basic math
But that said, this method "Hey, stupid, this is what it's going to be. Take it or leave it." is better for Uber in the long run.
I had somebody complain about how slow I was driving the other day. (It was 60, by the way). I told her, "Safety first."Quote: IbeatyouracesTeddy drives like he's 90. :-)
That is up to you. But I always tell people, "I neither encourage it nor expect it."Quote: Blonde4everYou don't want us to tip? I have always tipped Uber and Lyft drivers!
Quote: rxwineSo, if I was a registered Uber driver, and I was somewhere where I rented a car, can you drive fares in a rented car?

Rental cars cannot be used for uber- it's in the contract for the rental car for sure , I'm not sure about the rules for uber but I'm pretty sure you cannot use for them either.
Also the people in uber from what I'm told that are making larger money are the uber select- I used it all week in Vegas and it's much nicer cars and better element of drivers- five cars used- one was escalade, a 528. An Audi Q7 a tesla and a Mercedes s550- mostly was an escalade repeatedly since he hung out at the bellagio but the drivers were much better and cars a lot nicer. Average trip from the strip to downtown in uber select was 35-45

Lyft has a spot on the app for tips- or did a few months ago
I think the uber select drivers get tipped more in cash or at least it seems
You'll make far more money starting a referral chain than you actually will driving.

Yeah, no..

Previously it was in contracts that it could not be used for business

There were definitely work clauses in the rental car contracts previously
The funny/pathetic part is my car isn't good enough to qualify for any of those services.
Quote: BTLWIIn Wisconsin I get Uber rides in rusty old minivans with 3 or more dashboard service lights on. Nothing at all like Vegas. Right before I left for Vegas on June 8, Uber sent me an email for 25% off my next 10 rides. Felt guilty riding in a brand new BMW from Bally's to the Plaza and seeing an estimated fare of $4.65 because I picked Uber pool, there were no other riders on the route, and my 25% discount applied.
Drivers are paid on the full fare. Discounts don't affect their fare
I have never driven or ridden in ride shares, but have seen videos about them, and insurance not covering drivers while working for them has been stated. The drivers I think are spoiled by good wages in the past they couldn't otherwise get, and that's ending. The riders I can't believe what they're willing to pay, heard of a guy paying $400 for a 40 mile trip. From the video I just shared, seems like they're making it as obfuscated as a slot machine.Quote: RogerKintI was in a car accident, in Vegas, recently (don't worry, I'm OK). Both insurance companies must have asked ten times if the car was being used for a ride-share like Uber.

No, you should not.
You must be new.
You're not netting 800 a week or making 15 an hour. Depends a lot on the kind of car you drive. But factor in gas , brakes, tires, oil changes and the depreciation on the car. Overall, the irs says it costs 52 cents a mile to run your car. Maybe it was 54.
Tips are not included in the fare. Uber lost a big law suit over that. They just want their drivers to make $5 an hour while the scoop up the rest. If people tip their drivers uber can't control their wages, just like dealers or waiters
Learn to make tips or do something else. Vegas is one of the few cities where you can do ok. Kickbacks, tips, etc. If you are driving uber x and getting one tip per day you are making about min wage, or less, depending on your car and city.
I always tipped uber drivers, even before i did it. Someone is driving you from a to b and you pay only a small fare. Never ocurred to me not to tip.
But i like tipping people. I want people who do work for me to make a living wage.
