While we are all waiting for Congress to enact sensible law to pull $1 bill out of circulation and to phase out $1 bill over a reasonable time frame, Las Vegas can help Uncle Sam in the circulation of $1 coins.

I know there are many here working in the casinos, so here is my question:

What is the cost or advantage/disadvantage of replacing the $1 chips with US legal tender $1 coins?

I think it might cost the casinos more because if you are using legal tender the patrons will take the coins and you will have to constantly replenish them from the bank. It may also cause difficulty for surveillance to count them when they are stacked.

Yeah I think it's a non-started. The old "silver" dollars (whether true silver or base metal like the Eisenhowers) were pretty close in shape and size to casino chips. Or rather I'm sure it was the other way around. The casinos made their chips to mimic the dollar coins of the time.

The current dollar coins are too small. They would wreak havoc at craps games for sure.

I used to deal in a casino years ago and coins would wreak havoc on the felts and they are much harder to handle than chips. Also as a chip collector this change would make me very sad lol.

It's best to allow $1 coins to be put in fruit machines (also if you're not yet using tickets/cards pay out using coins). On tables I suggest the same as in the UK, where you can hand over £1 coins at the table but they get changed into chips.

Coins are harder to stack, count, eyeball, handle, etc.

Chips are a uniform size, shape & weight for a reason.

Hell, even Joker's Wild uses 25¢ chips rather than quarters!
