Gambling TR next weekend......
Headed down to Destin FL tomorrow to do some fishing.
Going out with a company/crew/boat that I've been out with many times before.
Just a head boat / party boat, not a private charter or anything.
Red snapper season is open till the 15th, Gag Grouper opened on the 1st.
Both open at the same time for the first time in many years (special circumstance).
So I'm driving 8 hours each way, staying a night or two in a flea bag motel,
so I can ride a couple hours out into the ocean, fish for 3-4 hours,
And ride back in for a couple of hours.
Gonna be mid 90's heat and sun,
Or I'm standing in a thunderstorm with a graphite rod in my hand.
I'm excited as hell!
Quote: TwoFeathersATLReal TR, really fishing, like those swimmy things in the water.
I'm excited as hell!
Sounds like fun! Good luck with the fishing! Don't forget your sunscreen! Esp ears and back of neck. Re-apply every 2-3 hours.
My husband has taken the kids a couple of times. They loved it. I opted to stay home. ;) They did bring back 20 salmon for me to debone - that took a few hours! :/
Quote: MissEyeSounds great! I use to work on a fishing show in NC. Had some great times having some beers while riding out to a fishing spot, video tapping for awhile then beers on the way back. Crap pay but good times!
Trip report cancelled, actually trip cancelled. I got all excited about going yesterday, then did a cost/benefit (pain/pleasure) analysis this AM.
Hooking the big ones is a rush. It's a bit like sex, or playing w/some really dangerous drugs (or so I've been told, 'ahem').
Or that rush from a winning streak at the tables, or machines.....
I've already been out in deep water a couple times this year, had pretty good results both times.
But both trips coincided with family vacation weeks, this one was going to be a selfish, solo, expense of time/money/energy.
I've done a number of those trips in the last couple years, it's a long drive down, and a longer drive back.
I wanted to shake the hand of the 1st Mate, a buddy of mine, who just became a first time dad with a new baby boy!
But alas, I will stay home this weekend. Probably safer for everyone involved, especially the fish ;-(
Next weekend is a Gamblin trip. Actually it's a wedding anniversary trip (14 yrs this time, a new record) with maybe a little Gamblin thrown in.
Even if it's free cash offers, I feel like you need to run them thru one time just to be polite ;-)
Cheers!
Quote: MrVYou're a dock tease.
Extremely well played.
He should have posted a TR, anyway. Posting it without actually fishing would be no different from the fishing reports of most people, as they say, "Early to bed, early to rise, fish like Hell, and make up lies."

I could post older reports, a couple from this year, if that would help?
I booked yesterday, backed out today, came to my senses perhaps. Perhaps not, I get it wrong about as often as I get it right ;-)
Destin Fl April 2015
Daytona Fl June 2015
Destin FL July 2015 (cancelled)
Myrtle Beach SC - Aug 2015 (can't cancel that one, big party)
6 trips last year, including HI. Not counting AK cause I didn't get to fish there ;-)
None of which has anything to with gambling, well except for a couple of the FL trips, well and the SC trip, and the AK trip.
I did not gamble in Hawaii, I was there to bury my brother. (But I did fish one day ;-) OK, it was two days.....
Quote: Mission146I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I believe Hawaii may be one of the few states with no form of gambling, but could be wrong. There are definitely no casinos.
Damn! I attempted to post a response. Both to Mission's statement that I should have posted a TR anyway, and to Mission's condolences about my brother.
It was long, it was beautiful, it had the beauty that is Hawaii. I'm talking naked women (and men), gorgeous waters and big fish, unbelievably gorgeous landscape, Puff the Magic Dragon, Elizabeth Tayler's sons, the Valley House. It was 20 pages long ( Ok it was 2 or 3 ). It would have made some of you cry, some others laugh, it was good......
And then the power blinked, or I hit the wrong button, or something. ......poof
I did not head out on a fishing trip today, maybe I should have.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hawaii is a pretty great place to spend the last of your days though (I grew up there).
You're right, Mission... no legal gambling in Hawaii. I'm sure there are underground card rooms in Chinatown. So many asians in Hawaii and they do have a long standing love of gambling! This is also why Vegas is jokingly referred to by Hawaii residents as the "9th Hawaiian island". ;)

They fly over (junkets) and patronize The California casino downtown, and also MSS (its sister casino).
I always make sure to have a Hawaiian meal or two at the coffee shop at the Cal when I'm in town.

Anytime you plan to go fishing, and don't, is a fishing trip gone forever.
These trips are limited. Try not to waste them.

Unless you went gambling instead! There's a fish-catching machine with multiple Progressives. I mean to get to that, but I rarely see anyone playing it and the Max bet (for Progressive eligibility) is a good bit higher than I would like...but maybe I'll get around to it so I'll know if it is really good.
On extended vacations, back when there was significantly more good +EV online plays. I would tether my Laptop to my cell phone, bring a portable battery pack. I would Go fishing and gamble online.Quote: Mission146Unless you went gambling instead! There's a fish-catching machine with multiple Progressives. When my casino got this, I was enthralled for at least a week. Five years there and it was the first time I ever did a slot observation. I just couldn't stop watching it.
I always used one of my axillary monitors and zoomed a PTZ on this machine, just so it was there. It was the closest I got to a Zen garden

I'm not old enough to know the whole history of why Hawaii has such a long standing relationship with Boyd properties. I guess Boyd made a point to court Hawaii business from the get go? Hawaii lives and breathes on word of mouth and loyalty goes a long way. There's a singular travel agency that was known as the place to go when you want a package deal to Vegas (Vacations Hawaii). I guess Boyd got so much business from them anyway, they bought the agency in 1995 and you can only get a package deal staying at a Boyd property now.
My grandparents were counted in the demographic of Cal and MSS fans. I remember going with them on a family trip when I was a teen. Later, after I turned 21, I accompanied them on my own but I booked us a package room at the Trop instead. ;)

It's not a joke to the Cal...lol
Quote: Mission146See? You guys both know that there is only one thing better than fishing or gambling: Fishing AND Gambling!
Lol, my idea of fishing and gambling is heading onto Erie alone with storms approaching to fish the Canadian border sans passport with 18 beers, a couple packs of counterfeit smokes, and a tag that expired in 2012. I AP the s#$% out of that. #1 vice influencer.

Hmmm...You've got me, I don't know where to go with this, now. I'd like for my kid to ask about fishing again, then we'll go, been awhile. I just do whatever my kids suggest...

I think 2 feathers really did not know who he was messing with, announcing he was blowing off a fishing trip where Face could read it LOL. I think he would have accepted better hearing that when you were supposed to show up and help the church ladies you just drove by and mooned them instead!
btw do Hawaiian school kids learn the names of the 8 islands? or did they used to have to do that? the 9 islands could be on the next Wizard trivia quiz LOL
I only know the names of the main islands: Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Lanai. Would not know the other three off the top of my head.Quote: odiousgambitI think 2 feathers really did not know who he was messing with, announcing he was blowing off a fishing trip where Face could read it LOL. Edit: Kauai I would know too.

The other two are Kahoolawe (w is a v sound) which the US military used for bombing target practice and Niihau which is still privately owned by a single family and closed to the public. Molokai used to house the leper colony between the mid-1800s to the mid 1900s.
And yes, this is all part of "social studies" of a local nature in elementary school. ;) There's a lot more to Hawaii than all of the touristy stuff. I think everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.
(Apologies to TwoFeather for hijacking your thread...)
