I haven't picked a place yet, but it should be somewhere on the Strip. I'm open to suggestions. For after lunch, I'm thinking about heading over to a poker room for a few friendly rounds of poker, or we could slum it at Casino Royale for Craps and see who dares take up 100X odds ;)
I will likely arrive in Vegas on Sunday May 26th and will stay for two weeks. Other than WoVCon, I'm wide open during that time frame.
And in my opinion, (the) Baltimore (Ravens) must be destroyed.

We can agree to disagree on the embelishment of Roman numerals.
But I'll give you a tip: if I wind up doing the trivia contest, expect at least two questions related to Ancient Rome.

Late May, apx May 28. I'd be happy to have a lunch with whoever is around before leaving.

Will one of them be about the etymology of the word for star in Latin?

Not even close. but you'll be in Germania by then anyway.

The last week in May would work for me possibly.
Quote: iluvdisco33I don't care about a convention or meet date. I do care that it is easy to determine that the 49ers will absolutely DESTROY those phonies from the AFC. They lost 5 out of their last 6 regular season games for God's sake. They were very lucky to win in Denver only because of coaching incompetence at the end of regulation by not letting Manning do his thing with 35 seconds and 2 timeouts remaining, even after seeing Matt Ryan win with basically the same criteria. Joe Flacco? COME ON MAN!! He's never going to win a super bowl and he'll always be a second rate qb. That's not to say that the kid in SF is going to be another Tom Brady, but he'll get his chance to be when his defense demolishes the Ravens and his offense does their usual thing. This is a stupid super bowl, and so stupid that I put $5500 on the Niners to win!
Ohh I smell a wager....First let me help you get your facts straight.
1. The Ravens lost 4 out of 5 to close the season not 5 of 6 as you say. That includes a meaningless last game of the season that they didn't try to win. Most starters played little if any.
2. By any measure you'd like to use... Joe Flacco has out played Brady and Manning in back to back weeks on the road. In addition he out played Brady (again) last year in the AFC championship game and was a dropped pass and a missed field goal away from going to the SB last year. Now I'm not saying Flacco is in the same class as Brady or Manning (he's not). But a second rate QB...don't think so.
3. If you'd like some more action PM me and we'll see what we can work out.
P.S. -- sorry if I hijacked the thread.

Oh, no. It's much, much, much, older than Cleveland. It's a paraphrase of someone else. The crucial bit is "in my opinion."

Then you dishonor Sam Whyche and his memorable line "You don't live in Cleveland! You live in Cincinnatti!" I've no love for the Bengals, but it's hard not to like the witty former head coach.

I don't know that the absence of the Wizard mandates a necessary change, but I think it is a factor that should be considered seriously. What's a WoVCon anyway without a WoV?
Of course I don't know what constraints Nareed may be working under -- not many members are traveling internationally to the Con, so this is an important consideration -- and I have no info whatsoever on any efforts to coordinate the timing of another event in Las Vegas that may be of interest to our members. But is it reasonable to consider the possibility of having WoVCon ]I[ (or ///) a week earlier, prior to the Wizard's departure? I do understand the time constraints on the Wizard's travel, since it includes a European wedding, so I thought I would raise the question of whether others might have flexibility to accommodate his schedule.
For my part, my wife and I are going to make every effort to make it again this year. There just aren't very many who have the opportunity to make it to three straight WoVCons. For the moment, our availability is wide open from mid-May through mid-June, and I don't plan to let anything change that until I book our flights.
By the way, I understand that Archbishop Hughes once wrote that, "Baltimore must be destroyed or it must succumb to Northern determination." Can you possibly be referring repeatedly to that piece of history?

I already made my bets at 3 casinos because they wouldn't take more than $2k worth of action and I haven't any more cash on hand. You should have done the bravado thing earlier. Flacco is a perennial pussy, and he was lucky to play the Patriots when the best tight end in the league was out, when their 1000 yard+ rusher got injured, and when their 2 corners went down. 4 of 5 or 5 of 6, big freakin deal. They stink, and that murderer Ray Lewis is nothing but a thug trying to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of the camera. Now that POS team even has queers mouthing off on the super bowl stage. Good God.
Quote: DocI don't know that the absence of the Wizard mandates a necessary change,
Read that again. it's funny. You're saying the Wiazard's absence does not necessarily mandate a necessary change :)
Sorry for the digression. And in all seriousness, I'll get back to you on that. I need to think a few things over and consult with someone else. I suppose we could hold it earlier, but I'm not sure a week earlier would be feasible. I need to look at a calendar for a while and do some searching in airline and hotel websites...

I tend to agree with Doc that if possible, we should re-jigger the date to accommodate our Fearless Leader. Nareed, I know you put a lot of work into planning the get-together, so I'll leave it in your hands. For me, round trip flights tend to jump quite a bit right at the beginning of June. School getting out? Summer starting? I dunno, I would rather go to Vegas in April/May for the milder weather, but whatever. I'll still try to make it, but will hold off on buying tickets just yet.
Besides that, how does a WoVCon ]I[.I on June 1st sound?
And in my opinion, (the) Baltimore (Ravens) must be destroyed.
1) The Wizard is available for May 25th.
2) I'd no idea it was a holiday weekend. How much of a problem would this be for those of you who want to attend?

May 25th works great for me, flights looking cheaper than the 1st, but I haven't checked TR to see if free rooms are scarce. The holiday does throw a bit of a wrinkle into things, but I think the presence of the Wizard overrides any such wrinkles.
Man, I'm getting stoked! Too bad it's still 4 months away...plenty of time to build up the ol' bankroll though :). I really want to have the capability to play $50 minimum tables with a 1-10 spread on this trip.

Don't worry about me and HB.... we'd get along fine.
I have already told the Wiz that I would not attend out of deference to Nareed, as it seems like it is very important to her, and I know Nareed would feel uncomfortable with me there.
I alert the local forum members when I'm able to make it out to Vegas without calling for a 'convention'. As those who have been following the dice control thread know, I'll be in Vegas March 10 - 14, with the highlight being the March 11 foray to Ahigh's place for some dice control action!

First you let the blonde tell you what to do and now you're staying away because Nareed would feel uncomfortable. Come on! These are the people who called you stalker and bully among other things. If someone doesn't want to be in your presence let them stay away.
I want to remind you this event is open to everyone, forum members or not. That means you can bring along whoever you wish, be they friends, family, acquaintances, etc. But I would appreciate a heads up.
Now, for the gambling after lunch. I learned last time that small table games are out, since they can't acommodate everyone. So no BJ, PGP (sorry Dan!), UTH, 3CP, etc. That leaves either Poker or Craps. I'm uncertain about the logistics of either. Any information and ideas are welcome.
As to activities around WoVCon ]I[, thus far there's an undefined WovCon ]I[.I on June 1st, featuring our own and innimitable HotBlonde. Other than that I'm open to suggestions. I'd very much like a repeat trip to Hoover Dam, as I've yet to see the new bridge, and everyone's welcome to come along (I am planning on booking a day tour).
Given the change in dates, my time frame at Vegas now is May 24th to June 5th, though I can extend that to June 8th if the money holds up. I'm a bit hampered in that Interjet only flies to/from Vegas on Thursdays and Sundays.
Spanish lessons are available. The cost is one dinner per lesson ;)
Furthermore, in my opinion (the) Baltimore (Ravens) must be destroyed.
Quote: NareedOk, then, unless someone has a really good reason sine qua non, May 25th it is. around noon, place to be announced in a few weeks.
OK, then, I guess it is time for me to start searching for flights and accommodations.
On a separate topic, and I realize that I am sticking my nose/neck waaay out here, I'm not sure whether these two comments copied below indicate that (1) someone has someone else's posts blocked and didn't see or (2) an olive branch is being offered, perhaps in both directions, in an attempt to get past some old grievances. I hope it is the latter.

I would, of course, vote for craps. I would not be opposed to poker if we can more-or-less monopolize a table. In fact it might be a good breaking-in for me, as I have never played poker in a casino before. So, at least the other forum members might go easy on me if I breach etiquette!
Looking forward to meeting some new forum members.

That's pretty much me, too :)
I'd be willing to let, and help, someone else pick a poker room. Someone with experience with poker rooms. Otherwise the plan will be "head over to Casino Royale and shoot craps."

My first visit to Las Vegas was with co-workers on a multi-week job trip, with a weekend stopover in Sin City. Since then, my wife has been with me on every trip out that way, and I can't imagine that I would make it to Las Vegas -- or on any other significant trip -- without her. She'll be there if I am! Now, two years ago, she was in Las Vegas with me but skipped the WoVCon and the poker game, just joining me to have dinner afterward with the Wizard and gofaster87.
Whatever happened to him, anyway? He hasn't visited since last June, hasn't posted since November 2011, and all (?) of his posts have been deleted.
Quote: AcesAndEightsSweet, just booked my flights. Arriving Wednesday night around 9:30pm, leaving Sunday night around 8:30pm.
LOLOLOLOL of course I forgot it was a holiday weekend, and thus I will get Monday off! I just changed my flight to Monday morning so I can get a few more hours on the ground in Vegas. This has now turned in to a 5-night, 4-full-day trip. Yikes, hopefully I don't lose my bankroll halfway through!
On a related note, I had 2 gambling-related dreams last night, no doubt because I was mulling over flight prices and hotel offers. The first involved me trying to stuff thousands of dollars into my bankroll pouch and trying to count off the C-Notes, which was very difficult for some reason; I couldn't get the bills to count cleanly.
The other dream (may have been later in the same one) is that I hit some kind of big jackpots on a table game - something like 3 card or UTH - the dream didn't make any sense, but I think I booked like a 5 figure win somehow between 2 side bets. Pretty much impossible since I don't play the side bets in those games (and in fact have never played UTH at all).
Quote: DocShe'll be there if I am!
Good. Hopefully she'll join us for lunch, too.
Tell her if she gets tired of hanging around the casino while you gamble, I'm open for a shopping trip or for sightseeing anywhere.

What's better than an anniversary spent in Vegas?!?
Quote: DRichMy wife is a pretty good sport, but I don't think she will allow me to cancel the anniversary.
Don't cancel the anniversary -- just celebrate it in Las Vegas, introducing your wife to some of your on-line friends. On the other hand, it's only a little over three hours from Big Bear Lake to Las Vegas, so if she insisted, the two of you could spend the holiday weekend at the lake and make a Saturday round trip to Vegas to join in on the WoVCon. Does your wife like to play craps?

It's not a matter of where, but with whom. Or at least not primarily where.

I don't have any place yet set for us to stay in Las Vegas, because it seems they never offer really good deals this early to a low roller like me. Hopefully, something affordable will turn up in the next few months.

Seriously, it's a joke that began last year with WoVCon ][, slightly named after the Apple ][ line of paleolithic PCs.
If you want to point out that after this one I'm out of joking refferences, you'd be right. WoVCon ]V is just silly.
