Why do they care how long you stay there. Money is money, are they so over crowded now they can turn people away? One casino owner to another: "It would be so much easier if we could just hit them over the head, steal their money, and throw their bodies in the creek." Al Swearengen, Deadwood |

| TIMSPEED Member since: Aug 11, 2010 Threads: 39 Posts: 560 | I bet they're meaning "comp" nights... Heck, my home casino, I get 3 nights in, 3 nights out; That's the ONLY limitation! So technically, I could get a friend who has the same offer and we could LIVE there (if we wanted to share the same room) They say casino's aren't built on winners...
No...they're built on ignorance. |

El Cortez is not selling rooms. They are selling access to gambling. People would stay there a month or two if they could. At the end of the week, they will rent you a room for another week, but it depends on availability and price. You just can't make a reservation for a month. | dewey089 Member since: Feb 2, 2010 Threads: 5 Posts: 18 | I see the argument for some limiting. However, they have not done this for years. This is new. They say so. I know plenty of guys who have booked for 10 days in a calendar month and recently without any issue. There are plenty too who may drive in for a week at the beginning of November and then again at the end of the month. They were as surprised as I was. I'm not a tourist there, but I don't often get much of time followed because they have no following of live poker players. A similar spread limit game to theirs at O'Shea's is followed and can earn free nights at Harrah's-now-CET. As a marketing strategy, unless they can get the Gold Spike to go along too with some limitation, they just push any "tourists" who want to stay for 10 days in one spot from their place to the Spike where the rooms compete well price wise with Cabana and Tower prices (even with resort fees) and there is free wifi and a pool. And all of downtown is there if we have the time to stay. I saw Vegas Club in August, 15 nights at $9 a night. Fitz competes well in price and some sites throw in a breakfast. If they were singling me out here on my past record and not renting just to me, that might be one thing. This is a policy that applies to everyone. And no one I know waits until the end of a reserved week of rooms, and then seeks to book another week if it just happens to be open. I'm planning right now for 17 nights in Oct/November and long before I go, I will have every night's stay perfectly planned. Estimates I have for what it costs to maintain a room run about $22 a day. At $34 a day they are losing money on days when they are not full. Much of the month , they will give you a room for $60 with $35 in freeplay and $25 in food comp. The room is free. What can the profit be on tourist run $35 and selling $25 in food? Not at much as if they rented to me for $34 and just gave me the room. They are hardly full up or that deal would not be there. Fremont East might be having a bit of Renaissance, but it has not gotten to sold out yet. They still show up pretty close to the best priced on discounter sites. If they were short rooms, they would not farm out deals. Smarter might have been to limit those discount rooms to just 7 a month rather than all bookings. I took a 7 day booking(2 Oct days) and a 3 day booking at Cabana and turned it into that seven day booking at Cabana, a two day ACG coupon booking in pavillion, and two nights to see if their Gold Spike competitor offers a comfortable place to stay next time. And it saved me money. And where they had me on the last trip pumping some cash through machines, and I may a bit later (once I know my freebies other places) talk to a host about later bookings. they won't have me bothering to begin to seed for comps on the next trip. I won't be a tourist as I may play live poker, sometimes 14 hours at a stretch, but I'll look like a tourist and put my VP dough into 4 Queens or MSS where the odds are better anyway. To add to the stupidity of this decision, next year all I really have to do is plan one week in October and the next in November and I get 14 nights. If I went with a buddy we could get 28 nights doing that in different names. Most tourists go in pairs. Solo bookings I would suspect are gamblers. If you read the Facebook answer, you can see the person answering saying between the lines that they don't like this either, but for now they have to honor the policy. My bet is that a few notes in their direction indicating folks are frustrated might help alter that policy sooner, maybe even in time for my November trip. "Sorry for the new policy Dewey. We regret the inconvenience it has caused you however it is a newer policy that for now we must adhere to." |

The El Cortez has great offers however they in the past have rescinded them from people who did not play a lot. Live poker is a wash for them. Truthfully I think they just keep it for Jackie. Over the last decade I have seen the El C go through quite a resurgence. I have even had times in the last year where I needed my host to get a room for me. Not sure what level you are but I can attest that if you are Ruby or Diamond they bend over backwards for you. It is also rather surprising how many people there do have Diamond cards. | teddys Member since: Nov 14, 2009 Threads: 100 Posts: 2723 | The host (singular) at El Cortez is an Indonesian guy named Nords Maillay. Nice guy, but possibly the worst host in Southern Nevada. He will be completely unresponsive to you, and get you nothing in the long run. Don't bother contacting him. They gutted their VP offerings and they are no longer competitive with downtown, although they have a few good games that nobody else has. There are better targets for your righteous anger. A quick look at VPFree.com it seems that ElC, 4Q and MSS all have almost exactly the same VP games. But like my last post 14 hours of poker for them is not a lot of profit. But 14 hours of .25 VP at 400 hands per hour is a significant amount of money being coined in. That would push you to the Saphire level. FWIW I have had the exact opposite dealing with Nords. In my experience he has been more or less timely and accommodating. But this is not to suggest he is that good wiht the others. I have a bewitched egg that I use to play VP with and I have net over 900k with it. |
