My condolences on your losses Wizard... hopefully, things will bounce back for you by the summer.
I'm curious when the first $8 CNY chip was issued. The "black and white" printing on the 2010 MGM seems like it was a last minute, "get an image from the free graphics" mock up.

Looks like time for another visit and lesson from Konbu. I'm guessing that one of those four characters means "tiger". The first character looks (at least to the untrained eye) a lot like the first character we were taught before in the expression "恭喜发财 Gung Hei Fat Choi". I can't match up the others, though. Obviously, I am too old and too lazy to learn a new language, particularly one that doesn't follow an alphabet I already know.
On the topic of the Wizard being too depressed to provide further commentary, I wonder how he will present his despondency over his Super Bowl wager results while collecting winnings from his own mother. With a very sympathetic tone, I hope.

And I hereby withdraw my previous guess and declare (er..., guess once again) that the background of the left image of the Wynn chip has the real character for "tiger."
(Courtesy of the rarely-reliable Google translate, in both the traditional and simplified writing the character is 虎. Is that correct? Simplified=traditional? In any case, my very untrained eye judges this as looking at least a fair bit like what's on the chip.)

So what does the "LTD 888" mean? I understand that the 8s are supposed to be lucky, but is this a limited-edition chip with a total of only 888 of them produced? Seems like a rather small batch, but maybe that's appropriate. I have seen limited-edition items marked something like "No. 27 of 100." I don't think it is reasonable to assume either that they put serial numbers on the center inlays of these chips or that the Wizard was lucky enough to get chip #888.

That would depend on whether the chips are supposed to make money or serve some other purpose (PR, goodwill, publicity, etc). At face value, they'd be worth a grand total of $7,104. A casino would have to be in dire straits indeed if that paltry sum seemed worth exerting any effort over.
So I'm guessing it's something else, though LTD very likely stands for "limited."

That's very common. Art prints are produced in limited quantities and are amrked something like "6/50," meaning the sixth printing of a run of fifty. But then such prints are worth a lot more than 8 dollars.

I suspect something more with the "LTD 888." They could have produced more than 888, but if asked they can always say that's just a lucky symbol for asian players and they don't mean that it's a limited run of 888 even though many of us would think that's the case.

All of the Caesars (or Harrah's at the time) chips are the same except for the casino name. For that reason, I just get one any Caesar's property for a given year, if I even do that.

Does Caesars use larger chips for baccarat, but didn't make the CNY special editions in that size; or are all the baccarat chips at Caesars the standard diameter?
I have seen some chips marked "LTD 500", but they were actually part of a series, each with a different image, so the total available was actually much higher than 500. The Palms, and Hard Rock do this all the time.

Here are a couple Promotional chips that Johnny Z's casino in Central City, CO uses to reward their frequent players (players Club). These are only usable at their table games, and are not redeemable for cash (obviously). They send you a coupon in the mail, you turn it in at the players club in the casino and they hand you these chips. Last month I rcvd $10 in bonus chips (seen here), this month I rcvd another flyer in the mail for another $10.

So I am looking to go to Chukchanci this week is there anyone on this forum that can tell me about the market buffet there? I have heard that on certain week day evenings they serve crab legs @ the market buffet ? Also, is there such thing as senior pricing for the buffet in evenings?
Also, the most important.. can anyone give me a heads up on any video poker that has the highest pay back or return for lack of a better term? I am hoping to be able to make enough back to cover my gas & cost of food. I am meeting some family members for dinner there. U also understand that there is a promo right now that if you give the player club $25.00 you get $40.00 in free play added to players card & for new players it is $50.00.

Maybe I should have just PM'd you since this is off topic but maybe someone else is curious too so here it is:
I had lunch there last month. It's a good buffet for the price and market I think it was $10-12 for lunch. They have your normal buffet fares plus a make your own stir fry station. Also you'll find more Mexican fares too like a taco station with fajitas, guac and pico de gallo and even menudo/pozole. Table mountain serves a lobster and crab legs seafood buffet on Tuesdays for $20.
I don't play VP at indian casinos but I doubt you'll find anything good. Definitely not at quarters and probably not even at $1.
Chukchansi has $10 PGP and only $5 at Table Mountain.

In Chinese there's no specific word for ox or bull. The're all 牛 or cows. If referring specifically to a male cow/ox/bull then it becomes 公牛 (gong niu)

I hope we can get a Chinese lesson after this post. As you can see this Wynn chip says "year of the rat." It is my understanding that the word for mouse and rat is the same in Chinese. I think they are distinguished by using an adjective for the size.
So, we have a Chinese symbol that means mouse/rat. Why does that always get translated into "rat" for Chinese New Year purposes? Rats are disgusting, filthy, disease-carrying vermin. Okay, you could say that about mice too, but at least they aren't as big. Plus the word "mouse" just sounds better than "rat."
I also submit that the picture on that Wynn chip is a mouse, not a rat.
In case anyone cares, in Spanish:

You got it Wiz. Colloquially there's no difference between rat and mouse, they're both usually called 老鼠 (lit. old mouse) If it must be specific, then rat would be 大鼠 (big/large) and mouse would be 小鼠 (small).
As for the rat/mouse for CNY... I don't know.. That's a good question.

They are definitely worth more especially ones with unusual denominations. $8 being one of them. Then anything with animals or unique characters on the. Anything related to Chinese luck. I used to think movie star chips were the way to go. Today's chip of the day comes from the Chumash casino in Santa Ynez, CA. My chip from Chumash is a Paulson RHC. It's red, and I think I'm starting to see a bit of a pattern. Here is my $1 chip from Chumash Casino with the new design. The $5 has a similar font on its insert. I don't know if the bar under the "u" is supposed to help folks pronounce the name correctly, or if it means anything at all.
