Casino: Olympic

Today’s chip of the day is from Olympic Casino in Tallinn, Estonia. Olympic Casino has 99 slot machines and 14 table games. I’m not sure how many poker tables they normally have as I was in town during their biggest poker series of the year so they had poker tables anywhere they could fit one. There are multiple Olympic casinos in Tallinn but this is the only one that has table games or poker. I played 2/5 NL and got crushed losing over €2000. The game was really good but I didn’t play my best and ran bad on top of that. I also visited the Olympic Casino in Tartu but they use the same chips as this casino did so no souvenir was collected sadly.

The chip is green with 12 yellow edge inserts. The denom is yellow and alternates around the chip with 4 yellow triangles. The centre inlay is white with a yellow notched border and a gold border. The casino name and location are a shiny gold.

Casino: Olympic Old Town

Today’s chip of the day is from Olympic Casino Old Town in Riga, Latvia. Olympic Casino Old Town is a small casino in the touristy old town of Riga. I was staying in a hostel that was only 5 minutes to walk from. The casino has 24 slots, 18 on the main floor and 6 upstairs with the 9 table games and 1 poker table. The first time I went I was told I had to wear long pants so I left and came back. I wasn’t able to get a seat in the poker game the first night but I did play a few hours on two other nights. The regulars said that it was very hit or miss whether the games go most nights. Over the few days that I was there I didn’t see much action on the slots or tables to justify having a casino open there. Overall a forgettable casino to say the least.

The chip is green with 4 yellow edge inserts. The denom is listed 4 times around the chip with two yellow rectangles between each denom. The centre inlay is a shiny blue with the casino name/logo in white/red. The location and the denom are white with a red border.

Casino: Olympic Voodoo

Today’s chip of the day is from Olympic Voodoo Casino in Riga, Latvia. The night that I visited the 4 casinos that were supposed to have table games (2nd and 4th were closed) this was my third stop. This casino is about 20 minutes by foot from the other Olympic Casino. I was excited to find out that they each had their own chips since the Olympic casinos in Estonia shared chips. Olympic Voodoo is located inside the Radisson hotel and has 80 slots, 15 table games and 4 poker tables. The first night I went there they didn’t have a poker game so I was forced to collect a €5 chip but when I was playing poker at the other casino a player told me they have poker on Friday’s so I went back. I played 5/5 NL for a few hours and won a few hundred before leaving with my €1 chip.

The chip is green with 12 edge inserts that are either faded yellow or dirty white I can’t decide. The casino name is written around the chip in the same yellow or white colour. The centre inlay is white with the casino name in red and gold, the denom is gold and red while the BG manufacturer logo is gold.

City: Kaunas, Lithuania
Casino: Olympic

Today’s chip of the day is from Olympic Casino in Kaunas, Lithuania. Kaunas is the second biggest city in Lithuania and the first of the two I visited. The Olympic casinos in both cities used the same chips like they did in Estonia so I didn’t collect one from the Olympic Casino in Vilnius. The casino was one of the smallest I’ve ever been in with only 33 slots, 6 table games and 2 poker tables. For the fourth time I had to sign up for a new Olympic club card as I was in a new country again. They were running a small (obviously) poker tournament when I was there so I couldn’t collect my chip playing poker. The bj table was full so I bought into a roulette table and bet 9 of the 20 chips I had which gave me a cash out that included my €1 souvenir. I was only in this casino for about 20 minutes, there wasn’t any reason to stick around.

The chip is blue with 12 white edge inserts. The denom is listed in white 4 times around the chip. The centre inlay is white with the the casino name/logo in gold.

Casino: Casino Admiral

Today’s chip of the day is from Casino Admiral in Kaunas, Lithuania. I had a heck of a time finding this casino. I walked from Olympic Casino to Admiral and that took about 20 minutes. The casino was supposed to be inside of the mall which is fine but I couldn’t find a single sign directing me to the casino and the door to the mall was locked as it was late at night. This is another one of those times where I wander around strange countries not knowing if what I’m doing is safe or not. I ended up finding a staircase to the 2nd level parking on the side of the mall which I took but it ended at the second level. From there I walked to the back of the parking garage and found another staircase to the third floor. On the third floor I found a movie theatre that was open so I went in hoping to find some info. The staff and patrons didn’t really speak a lot of English but one staff member spoke to a patron who knew enough English to tell me it was one floor up. I wasn’t able to get a way to go up by them but I figured I would figure it out. Outside the elevator was not in service and I couldn’t find another staircase so I walked up the car ramp to the next floor and voila there was a huge casino sign! I went in and and tried to play but they directed me to go sign up for a membership first. I signed up and then asked if they would open bj but I was told not tonight. My options were roulette or Russian poker and as I barely understand Russian poker I played roulette to collect my chip. I won a little bit playing red/black. I bet black and won 8 straight before it went red and I cashed out up €100.

The chip is blue with 3 red edge inserts. Each edge insert has a long red line between the inserts and one smaller underneath each insert. The centre inlay is white with the casino name in black and gold and the denom is red.

Casino: Nese

Today’s chip of the day is from Nese Casino in Vilnius, Lithuania. I stopped at a bunch of casinos but sadly this was the only chip I got to collect. I didn’t expect the Olympic or Admiral casinos to have different chips but from my research Nese Casino and Casino Tornado seemed like good bets to have their own chips even though they are owned by Admiral. I went to Casino Tornado first and sadly they were using Casino Admiral chips which gave me very little hope for Nese Casino. I got to Nese and was very happy when I saw different chips. I played Russian poker with the help of the dealer. I had looked up the rules when I was in Estonia so I had an understanding of the game but some of the strategy is tough if you haven’t played the game before. I think I played about 15-20 hands or so with two Italian guys. I lost about €20 before checking the slots on my way out. The casino had 30 slots and 8 tables. To play slots I had to load money onto a card that the cage gives you.

The chip is grey with 8 yellow edge inserts. The chip seems to have some green tint to it and I’m not 100% sure the yellow isn’t just dirty white. The centre inlay is black with the casino name, casino logo and the denom all gold. I’m not sure if there is a point to all the dots around the inlay and under the casino name.

Casino: Casino Helsinki

Today’s chip of the day is from Casino Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland. I wasn’t able to collect this chip during my cruise stop in Helsinki because of the time that we had to be back on the boat. When I was booking my flight from Vilnius, Lithuania to Prague, Czechia I had to have a layover and it was not going to be a short one. My options were about 8 hours in I think Warsaw, or about 12 hours in Helsinki. I figured with the 12 hours at least I could book a hostel and get some sleep instead of being stuck in the airport all night. Also I would be able to visit the casino that I missed in Helsinki.

I landed in Helsinki and took the train into the city. When I got off the train I realized my jeans were in my checked bag and I didn’t think that I would be able to get into the casino as most casinos I had visited in Europe didn’t allow entry with shorts or sweats. I checked in and dropped my stuff and headed to the casino anyway cause why not. To my amazement they didn’t care what I was wearing and let me in no problem. I started by looking through their slot machines and finding a gold mine. They didn’t have anything extravagant but they had multi game/multi denom machines and I found plays everywhere. I ended up making about €2000 and that was with losing €1500 on one play. I played poker for about a hour to collect my chip. When I was at the podium signing up for the wait list a few of the players that I met at the poker series is Tallinn recognized me and said hi. I honestly don’t know if I would have realized it was them if they hadn’t said something.

Casino Helsinki has two floors, first floor is all slots and downstairs has the table games, slots and poker. They have 300 slots and 23 table games and poker tables. It was a very nice despite its size. Weird thing about their chips, they had 1, 2, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 chips which just seems like excessive. Why do you need 5, 10 and 20 chips?

I kept the €1 hot stamp and the €5 nicer chip for my collection. The €1 chip is a beige clover mold with black hot stamp on the inlay displaying the casino name, the denom, the manufacturer’s logo and the name of the company that owns the casino. The €5 chip is green/turquoise with 4 white edge inserts. The casino name is written in white at the top and bottom of the chip. The centre inlay is shiny silver with the casino name in black, the denom gold and black and the casino company and chip manufacturer in black as well.

Casino: Casino Admiral Národní

Today’s chip of the day is from Casino Admiral Národní in Prague, Czechia. There are a ton of casinos in Prague and some of those casinos are from the same brand so obviously I only collected a chip from one of their casinos. Casino Admiral Národní is one of four Admiral Casinos in the city. I think I visited one of the other Admirals as well just to make sure that they were using the same chips. This was the first casino that I visited in Prague as it was the closest to my hostel. Casinocity says that this casino has 45 slot machines and no tables, both are quite incorrect. The casino’s site says they have more than 70 slots (mostly on the main level) and from memory around 6 tables on the second floor with under 10 slots on that floor. I played bj for a shoe and won like 600 Korunas which is about $26 USD. The minimum bet on the table was 100 Koruna or roughly $4.

The chip is green with 4 large white edge inserts. The centre inlay is white with a black border and the denom in black. I’m not sure what EVOL a.s. stands for and a google search didn’t turn up anything. I assume it has something to do with whoever owns the casino. The four suits are displayed in white at the bottom of the chip.

I do like this thread. I get to sort of live vicariously though your posts since I lack the required amount of paid/unpaid time off and money needed to explore the world and the many casinos you visit. Also there are some really cool chips out there, I kinda wish I could start a collection myself. I may have to start with the casinos local to me.

My wife and I have recently returned home from a two-week cruise and are still trying to get our heads organized again. All that combined with trying to get the condo ready for Christmas. This morning, I have attempted to bring the CCotD thread index back up to date. Hope I didn't mess up anything related to your posts, PG.

I appreciate the kind words Aitchtheletter. As far as who gets the chip collection when I die I’m hoping to not have to worry about that for 40-50 more years lol. I’ve actually thought about that not seriously obviously but just a what if. I think my current 1104 chip collection spanning about 30 countries and many casinos that are no longer is probably worth 5-10x its face value. I get these numbers based on a couple of chip collector forums that I frequent. I think at minimum if I was desperate and wanted to sell the collection tomorrow I could get about 6k.

Doc I’m not at home right now but I’ll do check on the index next time I have a chance. I have it written down to what page I have cross checked it up to from last time I did it.

Casino: Casino Ambassador

Today’s chip of the day is from Casino Ambassador in Prague, Czechia. This casino was in one of the main touristy areas of Prague where there were a bunch of food venues selling local hot food and drinks (alcohol). Casino Ambassador has 32 slots and over 20 table and poker games. The club was quite fancy and all the workers were well dressed which makes sense since the casino is advertised as upscale. This casino is one of the first in Prague and has been in business for over 20 years. I played 50/100 NL which is like $2/$4 USD. I played for about a hour and lost 7000 Korunas. The game was fine but I had a bunch more casinos that I wanted to visit that night.

The chip is yellow with 8 white edge inserts. The centre inlay is white with the denom in red. The name and location are in black. Praha is Prague in Czech. I had to do some research to find out why the chips said VIP Club and not Ambassador and from their website it seems like VIP Club Company is the owner of the casino. The other side of the chip has a black inlay with the name in white underneath part of a roulette wheel with a roulette ball on it.

Casino: Rebuy Stars

Today’s chip of the day is from Rebuy stars Casino Savarin in Prague, Czechia. Rebuy Stars is located in this beautiful old building that feels more like a 300 year old house than a casino, although in Europe you never know. You walk into this open area that feels like a courtyard and head upstairs. After signing in there is a bar on your left and a small alcove on your right with 30 multi-game slot machines. I started checking a few of them but when I cashed out I found that everything was a handpay which forced me to give up on that pretty quick.
Back into the entry room if you walk past the bar there is a big room with 10 table games. Beyond that is another small room with 15 slots or so. There was only one bj table open and it was full. I asked if the boss could open another but he said he didn’t have the staff for it. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes until I was able to get a seat. I played for about 10 hands and basically broke even.

The chip is beige (very dirty) with 8 purple and 4 white edge inserts. The denom is listed 4 times around the inlay in purple. The centre inlay is black with the streak of a shooting star going from “Rebuy” to the star. The casino name is red and yellow while the denom is red.

Back on 11/18/22, before my recent cruise trip to the eastern Caribbean and Brazil, I made a post in this thread with the comment:

Quote: Doc

... Unfortunately, it is unlikely that I will be chip collecting on this trip, because we have sailed on this ship twice before (already posted the chip from the on-board casino) and I understand that Brazil has made gambling illegal. Might be a limited chance to pick up a chip on one of the islands I haven't visited before (Antigua and St. Lucia) but nobody else has posted a chip from either of those Islands.

Turns out that I had been to St. Lucia on a previous cruise in 2009, and it slipped my mind. I did find an opportunity to visit two casinos in Antigua, however, and I will eventually post my chips from those establishments. I still haven't gotten my head reorganized enough to take the chip photos, but I think I may have plenty of time while PG continues to post his newest chips.

Casino: Forbes

Today’s chip of the day is from Forbes Casino (sort of) in Prague, Czechia. This was a weird one to decide what casino I was actually in. Google maps has it listed as Vegas Casino, the signage outside on the building says Vegas Banco Casino, the felt on the bj table says just Banco, the club card says Forbes and the chips say Forbes. The dealer didn’t speak great English and seemed confused by my question but I think the jist of it is that Forbes Casino (there is another one in town) bought this casino and just hasn’t changed the felt or the signage yet. I could also be completely off but I don’t think so.

Forbes Casino has 5 table games, 2 E-roulettes and 40 slot machines in this tiny casino. I play bj with one other player for half a shoe and won 3000 Koruna. I left when I doubled my buy in so I wouldn’t give the lucky money back to the evil casino.

The chip is dark blue with 8 thin and 6 thick light blue edge inserts. The centre inlay is light blue. There is a large black rectangle through the middle of the chip with the denom in white on top of it. The casino name is above the denom in dark blue and the currency is in dark blue below the denom.

Casino: Banco

Today’s chip of the day is from Banco Casino in Prague, Czechia. Banco Casino was probably the nicest and most high end casino in Prague. They have 60 slots on the main floor and on the second floor they had 14 table games and 3 e-roulette machines. It looked like they had some high limit private rooms but obviously I didn’t end up in there so I’m not sure exactly what was in there. I lost a few hundred playing bj with two other players before I left the casino.

The chip is is blue with what looks like 4 burnt orange edge inserts but it’s actually 4 burnt orange and 4 blue. The blue edge inserts are a slightly different colour than the chip which you can see if you zoom in. The centre inlay is black with a burnt orange ring and a black ring around that one. The denom is listed with its currency in orange. The casino name isn’t listed but there is a weird logo. It consists of a crown and maybe a shield with a weird trident looking weapon upside down?!? I honestly have no clue lol. Feel free to chime in.

Casino: King’s

Today’s chip of the day is from King’s Casino in Prague, Czechia. King’s website is confusing because they give different numbers for tables and slots in different parts of the site. I assume it’s just marked badly and the larger numbers are for their casino in Rozvadev, Czechia. From what I gather this casino which is housed in the Hilton hotel has 40 slots and 14 table games. It’s a small casino in mostly one room (I think they have private rooms for HL). I’m not sure why but this casino operates in Euros not Koruna. I’m guessing it has something to do with their average cliental that stays in the hotel. I played €10 minimum bj at a table with a csm to collect my chip. I kept a €5 chip because they didn’t have €1’s available at that table.

The chip is orange with 18 blue edge inserts. The centre inlay is white with a blue border. The casino name is black, the denom is gold with a black border and the chip manufacturer is also black.

I made a few discoveries today regarding this thread, though there may be none of them of significance. First, I noted that the number of Chips of the Day covered in this thread now totals 1492, which brought another discovery to mind. (Illustrating how warped my head sometimes gets.)

Next, while updating the thread index, I noted that some chips are listed as coming from casinos in Czechia, while others are listed as being in the Czech Republic. Initially, I thought that one or the other must be out of date, but I then did a little search and found a Wiki reference that says, "Both are acceptable. The shorter name Czechia is preferred by the Czech government." Guess I'll leave the index as it stands.

Then, I took a look at this post by AcesAndEights for his chip from a casino said to be in the Czech Republic. There, I noted that his use of the local alphabet for the casino name resulted in a final character (letter c with a v-shaped accent mark above it, I think) that doesn't even appear on my screen! Each time the casino name appears in the post (and in the index), the final character is replaced (on my screen anyway) by an empty box. Leaving out the accent marks on the final two characters, the casino name as it appears on the chip is Kartac. I am curious as to how that name appears to other members of the forum on their screens. (Not how it appears in this post but in the post by AcesAndEights.

Just received a P.M. from another member who included a screen capture image of the post from AcesAndEights. That image showed both of the accent marks in the casino name appearing quite clearly. I am using the forum with a Mac computer and the Firefox browser. Don't know which of those makes the difference.

The drunken octopus coat hanger was the inspiration for the joke!

I was talking about discoveries. I seem to recall hearing that 1492 was the year in which a mariner searching for an easier route from Europe to Asia discovered a "new" continent. But it has been quite a while since I studied either history or geography.

I tried using the Safari browser and found that AcesAndEights's post looks just fine on my Mac. Guess the problem has something to do with the MacOS version of the Firefox browser. Unfortunately, the Safari browser (at least the way I have it set up) has some problems on this forum. I may check that out later.

The name appears with accents on my Fire tablet.

Casino: Casino Henry

Today’s chip of the day is from Casino Henry in Prague, Czechia. Casino Henry is one of the smaller casinos I visited in Prague with only 30+ slots and 6 table games. I visited late at night around 130 am and I was the only person in the casino. I asked if the worker would open bj and he was happy to do it although since he proceeded to destroy me I wish I hadn’t lol. I walked away with my shirt (barely) and this 50 Koruna chip for my efforts.

The chip is grey with a yellow centre inlay. The casino name and chip denom are listed in black. I’d say this is one of the more boring chips I collected in Europe.

Not a chip, but…

For Christmas, my friend's wife gave me a set of uncirculated dollar gaming tokens that she won on an Excalibur Casino slot machine back in 1991, when she was a UNLV student!

It's especially relevant to me because I just took my kids there during Thanksgiving week and they really enjoyed the Tournament of Kings show — and my first visit to Las Vegas also included a trip to the Excalibur in 1991!

Casino: Borneo

Today’s chip of the day is from Borneo Casino in Prague, Czechia. I made a very short visit to this casino and I even forgot to check out the slots. I walked in and immediately had a worker offer to open the bj table for me. He led me to a small room with 4-5 tables and shuffled the cards. We played heads up for a bit before I left without a bunch of my local currency. The dealer and I chatted for a bit, he mentioned that they had only had 2 other players that night who left shortly before I got there.

The chip is white with 8 black edge inserts. The centre inlay is white with the casino name in red with a black border. The denom is black and the there are 5 grey stars with red borders above the casino name.
