I guess opposites really DO attract, eh, Bob? Couldn't resist. "Poker sure is an easy game to beat if you have the roll to keep rebuying." |

I'm not sure what list you're looking at, but here's the actual list: NGCB Most Wanted List From 13 outstanding wants, there are 3 Chinese, 1 African-American, 1 Filipino, 1 Hispanic, 5 Turks, and 2 white guys. "In my own case, when it seemed to me after a long illness that death was close at hand, I found no little solace in playing constantly at dice."

| midwestgb Member since: Dec 8, 2009 Threads: 6 Posts: 148 | The worst thing I have ever had done to me by a dealer in a casino, was done by an Asian dealer in Vegas... An attempt to deprive me of a winning bet in an amount that was significant. Lied to my face about what he had done. The worst things ever said to me by a fellow player in a casino were said by a female Asian player at a BJ table. Do I draw specific conclusions from these events? Not really. I am, though, quite careful around Asians in casinos. FWIW. |

The one I posted was an actual list also and had 30 names on it. Yours only has 15. One casino owner to another: "It would be so much easier if we could just hit them over the head, steal their money, and throw their bodies in the creek." Al Swearengen, Deadwood |

| Doc Member since: Feb 27, 2010 Threads: 21 Posts: 2819 | I think I would have more confidence in an "actual" list of Nevada wanted casino crooks from a website called "gaming.nv.gov" than one from a site called "cardshark.us". What is that one anyway? That list might actually have been accurate at one time, hard to tell, but it obviously isn't the current list from the NGCB. Assuming that Bob's list was once accurate, I think we can see that the ethnic makeup of the group changes substantially with time, so it doesn't seem that "profiling" would necessarily be of much value. |

From there you can click on The List of Excluded Persons. That list has 33 names with no Asians and reads like the cast of the Sopranos. Next is The List of Individuals Who Have Been Denied or Found Unsuitable. That list has 117 names with only 5 Asians that I can see. That's about 5% so can we conclude that 95% of Asians are not a problem? I find that some "Americans" are ignorant when it comes to ethnicity. There was an Asian woman at my table yesterday. The dealer kept asking her about the Chinese New Year even though she repeatedly told him that she was Korean. Many assume that all Hispanics are Mexican or all Hispanics are Puerto Rican etc. I am benbakdoff -Member since: July 13,2010. |

| FleaStiff Member since: Oct 19, 2009 Threads: 75 Posts: 4820 | We say Chinese New Year but I think its a lunar calendar new year and is celebrated largely in the orient. My Vietnamese dealer although trying to get me to take Even Money says that all Vietnamese are gambling experts. I adopted a very oriental response and simply smiled inscrutably. Problems with oriental gamblers... they tend to speak foreign languages but other than that, no problems at all. However, many tourists speak foreign languages. A list of the most wanted? Hardly representative. I know of one roulette team that hired two big black males bedecked with gold jewelry. All dealer and surveillance eyes watched the blacks like a hawk while the NYC Jews running the team were ignored. The most commonly encountered prejudices right now: Canadians and Chinese Females are thought to be non-Tippers. |

In the case of the United States population, of course it is significant that 50% of incarcerated criminals are African American which represents only 17% of the populatoin. From that, however, you can't make the conclusion that African Amercans are three times more likely to commit crimes than other races. The truth of the matter is that African Americans are somewhat overrepresented in the prison system due to the inability to have proper defence, a general racism that still exists in the judiciary system, and an emphasis to overpunish drug crimes and underpunish white collar crimes. Your link points to the most wanted list at a point in time. The current list (http://gaming.nv.gov/wanted_main.htm features 5 Asians out of 16 on the list. Secondly, I would say that Asians in general are not as easy to catch as Caucasians. If you look at the current list, 3 of 16 are wanted for cheating at Caribbean Stud (at the same time, at the same table). A sample size of 30 just isn't representative of the population as the list changes. You would need to look at a list of those arrested for gambling crimes over time to get a racial profile. -----
You want the truth! You can't handle the truth! |
