Craps had a 167% increase in December 2010 on the Vegas strip over December 2009. Average return per table was $5786 per day, up from yearly average of $3627 per day. These numbers are comparable to pre-recession craps revenue in Decmber 2007. Craps do not normally have breakout months like baccarat.

Blackjack is still sinking to record lows on the strip with a return of $1043 per table per day. Slots also dropped 10.5% over last year.

Downtown Las Vegas continues it's inexorable slump despite Oscar Goodman's rosy report in October. The increase in October was the only positive month out of the last 30 months. What the papers failed to point out was that the previous two Octobers had dropped revenue for that month to so much lower than average that a positive month was almost inevitable.

The overall month was a dip for Clark county and statewide.

While this is excellent news for the Las Vegas craps scene, how much of this could be equated to a couple of whales rolling the dice and dropping a few million?

By my best count, there are approximately 158 craps tables on the Las Vegas Strip.

158 craps tables x $2159 x 31 days = $10,574,782

Yes, $10.6 million is a lot of money, but I argue that it could be explained by a couple of high rollers playing craps instead of bacarat for a few evenings. They could have just as easily gone on a hot streak and put a major dent in the craps win for the month of December.

I assume that $2159 is the additional amount above average because I said $5800 per table per day. According to the gaming commission there are 206 tables in 38 casinos (Gaming Commission counts Gold Coast, Palms, Rio, Terribles, and Hard Rock as "strip" casinos). The total for the month was $36.949 million.

It does look like a losing streak as the win percent was 18.3% which is well above the 11.6% which was the average for this year.
====================
It might be more accurate to say of the 22 strip casinos that earn more $72 million apiece per year, there are 160 craps tables that earned an average of $7138 per day. The smaller strip casinos don't make very much money.
