An obscure company has bought the entire town of Nipton, just south of Primm and the first exit off 15 when you cross the California border. Once a boomtown, Nipton had six residents in the latest census, a famous general store( and kick ass cheeseburger), and a five room hotel.
Plans are to turn it into a ganja centric tourist attraction.
I've driven through the town as it is on the way to Laughlin if you are coming from the western part of Vegas. Take 15, head east at first California exit and 30 minutes later you are in Searchlight. Along the way, you pass through Nipton.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

Nice ride through the desert the road you describe with Joshua Trees.

Don't forget to SLOW DOWN as you get close to Searchlight. They make a living stopping cars right after the speed limit drops to 35 entering Searchlight.

Interesting. CNN via the "Wonder List" has a 3 minute video about the town that I just looked at:

Not to mention it turns into 25 for most of it.

However, I've driven through Searchlight many-a-time, and from what I can remember, I haven't ever seen someone pulled over, let alone a cop.

Life hack: The longer you spend in Searchlight, the more likely you are to get pulled over (duh!). So the best way to not get pulled over, assuming you're going through Searchlight, is to drive as fast as you can, since you'll spend minimal time in Searchlight. Easy.

Thanks for the head's up about the speed trap. I normally don't speed (much), but that's something I'd get snagged by.

For the record, when I come to town in November, I'm planning on spending two days in Laughlin, but will stop in Primm and Nipton on the way. Gonna hit up Oatman and Kingman before getting back to Vegas. All have very interesting photos attached to their Google Maps listing.
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

How do you "buy" a town? Just buy all the real estate in it? Do you have any responsibilities once you own a town? Do you get any revenue? Who do you buy it from? The state? Can anybody buy any town or city as long as they have enough money? Could I just "buy" Los Angeles if I was a trillionaire, or whatever it takes? Where does the money go? Who sets the price of a town? Once I bought a town, could I just kick everyone out?

Has anybody seen that TV show "Schitt's Creek?" The family owns an entire town but they are broke and living in a hotel. It doesn't make them any money, and they don't do anything from a political, bureaucratic, or managerial standpoint. They're basically homeless, jobless bums, even though they own this entire town.

I guess this is slightly off-topic, but I've always wondered about the logistics of "buying a town" since it comes up in the news every once in a while, and I obviously have a million stupid questions about it...haha...

If you're never been to Oatman, I recommend you go via Golden Valley. From Laughlin, head east about 15 miles to Golden Valley.
Make a right on Aztec Rd and follow signs for Rt 66. When leaving Oatman, take the road to Golden Shores, not the one to Bullhead.
It adds an hour to the trip but the road is fantastic.
This is not the most direct route to or from Oatman but it is spectacular. Also be aware the shops in Oatman close early(330-400 pm)
and depending on the time of year can be an hour ahead of Laughlin.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.
