Yup, yesterday was a pretty nice day with Ripple. It's gone up about 100% in 1 week. I bought it at $0.24 :)

Also looks like I was wrong on BTC. Looks like it's being stagnant around $12k-$14k range. Then again, I can see that, since there are other coins that are superior to BTC (faster transaction, less cost, and other stuffs).

Bitcoin down 33% in five days. I have a bet that it will be below $10,000 at 12:01 AM Jan 1. Looks like I have some hope to finally win a Bitcoin bet.

Have you tried to buy out?

If any of you can immediately see that this is a pretty good use case of why Bitcoin is needed, you're really on your way to "getting it".

A central banking authority that A) watches all of your transactions and B) gets to decide who you transact with. Uh, no thanks.

even if it were true that Bitcoin has no real world usage value it's obvious people want to gamble on it - and that is its usefulness

and why shouldn't they be able to gamble on it?

they gamble on just about everything else

wall street has been offering these crazy ass derivatives for decades

who are they to sneer at it?

I posted last week that Ripple was my buy for the digital currencies sector. I got in at .80 and said I was holding for 5 years. The smart move right now is to sell half of my shares and let the rest ride... which is exactly what I intend to do. Anyone who bought this under 1 dollar should probably do the same. Always play with house money when in position to..so to speak.

lol... i guess that is subjective to your overall investment goal and strategy. Depending what your risk tolorance is and what % of your portfolio you invested in it. If you don't need the money and you are just letting it all ride because you either A)believe it is a very secure and excellent investment or B)like to gamble and see where it can take you or C) like both. I can appreciate going for it but at the end of the day, the smart investor will always take the profit and ride with house money.... or hedge where appropriate.

Well, yeah, I'm not really saying to always hodl, but the gains have been so small on it, it's not worth pulling anything out yet. I got in at 23.5 cents and it's about 13% of my portfolio.

IMO, there's so much money in riding the ups and downs, getting a 700% gain on a coin isn't really that much. Look at what some of the coins were worth 1 year or even 6 months ago. I'm not cashing out with small profits, especially since I'm well diversified (IMO). Now, if you have a huge amount of your portfolio in a single coin, then I don't think it really matters if you cash out or not, since (IMO), you're just doing it wrong.

to you. but in South Korean the frenzy is so strong a lot of them are putting their life savings into it. Put the equivalent of $100K U.S. and walk away with $800K.

Well yeah, if a large portion of your money is in one coin, sure....but I also think putting that much into a single crypto is pretty stupid, at least for most people in most situations. If you're gonna put your life savings into just one or two coins, do whatever ya want.

Do I know about holding onto fake
currency? You betcha, did it for
20 years. Buy an antique or
collectible and it goes up in value,
maybe. What to do, what to do.

Many people hold and hold and
hold, and the highest value comes
and goes goes goes. I always sold
at a profit when I could because
it was fake currency, you never knew
what the future held. I know so
many people that lost their asses in
so many categories because of greed.

You can justify all this fake currency
that's the rage, and it's still fake. The
future usually isn't kind to these things.

That's my take, too. It started around 1k beginning of the year. 1000%+ gain on an investment in 1 year
is time to get at least your investment out. I'd sell it all, but then I was too chicken to put the money up a year ago, so what do I know? If you have it to throw away, so be it, but you've already won.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Never underestimate the monumental
greed that runs many (most?) peoples
lives. They will hold onto something in
a kind of paralysis. They want to sell,
but what if it goes up after they do?
A good profit isn't enough, they want
ALL the profit possible.

You see this mentality in the casino
every time you go. A ploppie will get
$400 ahead on a slot, and sit there and
keep playing because he wants $800.
So of course he leaves with nothing.

I will always take a profit and quit, that's
what makes me a good gambler. I control
every aspect of it and it controls none of
me.

Isn't that one of the biggest problems with the entire crypto space? Marc Cuban hurt the stock by putting out a negative tweet a few months back and now Thiel simply purchasing made it jump. One person should not be able to manipulate the market so greatly.

My UNEDUCATED opinion is that crypto currencies will destroy many many lives and economies in due time. We are literally seeing alt coins and mining operations being set up daily.

I'd have to disagree. If you look at the rapid rise of Bitcoin, with nothing to back it, you'll see the classic shape of a pyramid scheme and nothing more.

The US dollars, up to the early 1970's, was backed by gold and now by people's faith in the government. There is nothing, tangible or otherwise, giving credibility to Bitcoin. It's backed by investor greed and nothing more.

Huge stock market winners of the past, such as WMT, MSFT, etc. had products, innovation, amongst other things which cannot be found in Bitcoin.

Just as in a classic Pyramid scheme, the first people in have made their money (as evidenced by a simple glance at it's price chart) and the last ones in are going to be left holding the bag.

I'll take an established stock that pays a 2% dividend, thank you very much.

It was supposedly improperly reported at first. The first reports were that they were going to ban crypto. as a whole This caused a pretty healthy dip in the prices. Then the truth came out that they were only going to ban anonymous transaction. As a result of the corrected report, the prices apparently went back up beyond that from before the dip.

More outrageous fluctuations.

However, I bet it makes all the "I told you so" people happy. They get their day. My portfolio is down $160,000 from 3 days ago. Boo hoo, I'm only up $280,000 on my $50,000 into Crypto after 7 months. Yep you told me.

Anyone seen that the BitConnect scam has shut up shop. Their 'BitconnectCoin' currency has fallen from a high of about $550 to less than $6, ( it was >$200 yesterday!). On their own exchange, That is no longer trading they show it's value as $203.

'BitconnectCoin' currency has fallen from a high of about $550 to less than $6

And even now there are still morons in the market that see that as a blip and drove the price up to $12.
There really is one born every minute.
A spectacle to behold.

It was a bloody masterstroke of ZK's to short sell them so close to the peak. I wonder if he closed out his position yet or is he waiting till they go much lower to maximise his profit. I hope he stays hydrated and didn't get too greedy.
With his spot on analysis, his profit potential was almost limitless.
Well done ZK.* Can I borrow your yacht one day?
I wasn't stupid: I took my investment out of those risky bitcoins and bought BitConnect coins. [Didn't really]

Currently got an eye on these, which have halved in price after Christmas.

Hope you still have some Wizcoins out there. $9570 ATM. [edit accelerating downwards. . . $9420 . . .]
Timing is everything, isn't it. No point being totally right at totally the wrong time.
Anyone seen that the BitConnect scam has shut up shop. Their 'BitconnectCoin' currency has fallen from a high of about $550 to less than $6, ( it was >$200 yesterday!). On their own exchange, That is no longer trading they show it's value as $203.
