how do you get a room comped after you pay for it without a host?

Even if you "paid" for the room with a credit card (not cash), and not through a 3rd party like Expedia, booking.com, etc., a host can look at your rating for the trip and can write the room off and give you a refund. You don't need to have a host. Most casinos have HOD (Host on Duty) who can verify your play and clear any charges from restaurant bills and room fares. Some casinos allow players club desk to make the same call as a HOD. Hope you played a ton on your players card because without it, you won't get any charges cleared. Good luck.

It really depends on which hotel, weekend or weekday, and which game you are playing.

All hotels go by 2 methods to give you comp...Either 30%-40% of your Theoretic Loss, or 10% of actual losses.

For example, if you're staying at a lower-tier strip hotel and was playing $25 a hand of blackjack for 4 hours a day on a weekday.

Let's say the room cost a given mid week is $60 a night.

($25) a hand X (70) hands per hour X theo house advantage (2%) X (40%) amount you get in comps equate to
25 X 70 X 0.02 X 0.4 = $56. You are entitled to $56 of comp. Most hosts will call the $56 vs. $60 and just comp you the room.

Similar math applies for higher end hotels as well.

Casinos can do anything they care to do for you when they are dealing with their own computer systems.

The Player Tracking System has its own 'days' (usually start 3:00am or 4:00am), its own data entry systems (card swipes, abbreviations, comments by Floor Person, and most important of all ... its own 'time lag' wherein there is a delay before the data in entered and a further delay before it is displayed.

The Hotel Billing System for room cost and charges you make to your room number is a separate system, but it is their system.

The only real problem is that if you pay for your room through a third party, the casino can not reach into Expedia's computers and make changes. Nor can they reach into an airline's computers and adjust your mileage points for you.

Any 'room comp' involves the Hotel selling the room to the Casino at the Casino Rate for an accounting entry involving Player Development Funds. The Casino then turns around and can do anything from selling the room to you at that casino rate or for any sum all the way down to zero. Usually it will be zero. So they comp you to the room. The hotel shows the room was sold to the casino, the casino's books show the room was paid for by Player Development Funds. The Casino in giving you the room for free and in wipeing other charges off your bill is engaging in a competitive process shrouded in mystery.

The casino looks at your 'theo' as the starting point, it also looks at your 'actual' but mostly decisions are made by 'theo' as adjusted by various pluses and minuses that are part of your record. If you are a new guest, they may be willing to "invest" in you by being more generous than they might be otherwise. A new younger host is often more willing to invest in players. If you have had an 'actual' experience that is at either end of the expected range, you will get a bit of a bump. If you won a lot, they want to keep you happy so that you bring those winning back to THEM rather than some other casino. If you lost a whopping amount in a very short time, same thing. You get a bit of a boost in your comp dollars because they want you to be happy and come back to THEM rather than try a different casino on your next trip. If you've been observed "doing the Lord's work" (tipping generously) you may have a bit of a plus mark for that. If you've been observed putting in lots of hours, that is a plus mark too. Basically however its up to their formulas and the data input system, each of which is full of estimates, impressions and rules of thumb.

In short, casinos can do anything with their own computer systems, but the minute you use a Travel Site to make reservations, you are on you own for that room charge. Casinos can not reach into Expedia and retroactively comp you. So use expedia for general flight and room info but book everything directly.

I agree 100% with Fleastiff. I also want to add that even if you DID purchase the room through expedia and other 3rd parties. You can still get other things like food, massages, drinks, show tickets, and many more comp'd if your play warrants it.

Also its always best to visit the host desk BEFORE checking out. They are far less likely to refund you money after you paid. This is another good reason to charge everything to the room. Even if they don't add any additional comps, you can use the comps you earned while playing rated tables or slots with your card to discount your bill at checkout.
