So, a fellow gambler in a casino gave me this good piece of advice. "When begged for money in a casino, just act crazy. That's what I do. I open my eyes really wide and begin talking baby gibberish. They leave me alone after that."

On another websites

s,"I tell them my cousin is a cop and I will call him and get him to give the begger money personally. The begger scrams in just a few seconds, claiming they don't need the money all that much anymore. LOL."

"i tell them that I am down $1,000 and ask THEM for money, turning the tables on them, knowing they'll stop asking me for money. It works and they leave me alone."

"I straight up tell them the blunt truth. "The money I have is for me to play and enjoy my games, not be your personal bank."

So, what good advice have you been given/read on getting beggers to leave you alone? :)

The best thing to say is I dont loan money to anyone in the casino, ever. If it's someone you think you know personally, make it a $20 credit line max. That way they have to pay you back if they ever need to borrow again. Watch out with the good looking blondes, they're used to getting their way and get it.

In AC, my friend told such a person- There is a sperm bank across the street, leave your hand where it is, and I'll give you a donation to bring over.
It worked. Then again, I've never had an issue with No.

What I used to do, that I don't recommend, is offering them money if they can answer a trivia question, which was usually to name the vice president. I've yet to meet a beggar who knew the answer, by the way. Some of them got really angry, as if I was making light of their misery or f%#king with them. I can't see how the chance to get money is worse than no chance, but I've been told I analyze everything too logically.

I still have a tough time getting rid of them as I'm too nice and polite to be firm.

A bit off topic, but I've noticed a lot of people handing over bags of food to intersection beggars lately. They must get more food than they could possibly eat.

I gave food at an intersection late one night, and he ran off right away to eat it. Figured his woman or a friend was down there under the bridge and he was sharing it.

Back in NY, I ran a weekly Three Hour Cruise, basically a niteclub on the water. We'd put out a buffet and occasionally there would be a good deal of food leftover.
One night, there was lots of Southern fried Chicken left and I took two big bags. One for me, one I planned to give to some homeless vets that hung around outside my stop on the subway. When I got on the subway, I saw a homeless family-man, woman and two small kids so I offered them the bag I'd made for myself- about a dozen pieces of chicken, cole slaw, potato salad and some other stuff. Woman was so thankful, at first. All of a sudden she realizes there are no utensils and starts screaming at me. WTF- do you think we are animals. How the Fk are my kids going to eat this shit with no forks? She chucks a tub of potato salad at me, missing me only because I lunged. Her man is trying to restrain her but she is insane. I decided I'd spring for a taxi.

About loaning money to people you know personally, a guy said a woman he knew for a long time from the casino they both frequented a lot together and were very friendly with each other a lot,one day asked him to loan her like $800, giving him a sob story about losing the $800 she really shouldn't have been gambling in the first place with. She claimed she would pay him back with her next paycheck or something like that. He said she usually was responsible with her gambling money and was a friendly person, and so he wrote her losing $800 she really shouldn't have been gambling with a temporary laspe in good judgement , decided to help her out and loaned her the $800, fully expecting to get his $800 with her next paycheck. Her payday came and she did not pay him the $800 back on the agreed payday. In fact, he never saw her again. He felt jipped and scammed. He couldn't believe a fellow gambler he was chummy with stole , okay, more like scammed $800 from him. Lesson. Be careful loaning out money to EVERYONE, chummy acquaintance at casino or not.

After either the 2nd or 3rd McNugget challenges, which both ended in dismal failure, I had about 70 McNuggets left over. It was difficult giving them away. I offered them to 5 to 10 apparently homeless people on Fremont street but none of them wanted them. When I arrived at the Greyhound station I figured it would be easy finding takers, but still nobody wanted them. Finally, in the corner I found a couple guys who seemed happy to take them.

The first year the WSOP was at The Rio, one of my BJ friends entered a few of the smaller tournaments and we stayed there for moral support. We are outside and he strikes up a conversation with a Pro that was on tv a lot at the time. The guy was very nice and soon we are talking about the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry.
A young, scrawny looking kid comes up and excuses himself. He's staying on the Strip and forgot his wallet at the hotel. He asks the Pro if he can borrow $1500 for the buy in. I'm laughing to myself when ,quite unexpectedly, the Pro pulls out a stack of hundreds and peels off 15, then gives him another and says A guys got to eat, right? The guy thanks him and my friend says- A friend of yours to the Pro. Not really, he says. I've seen him around a bit. Think he's from Chicago or something, and starts talking about the Boggs - Mattingly batting title race of 1985.

On the flip side of things, one night in AC I hit a big slot win. I forget the details but it was enough that I stopped by 7-11 and got a money order for all but about $150. I'd come down by bus and had my return ticket and my metrocard for the subway.
Long story short, I lose the cash on machines and drink and take the greyhound to NY, getting in around six in the morning. Walk upstairs to the subway and cant find my metro card. Its gone and I have no cash. Go to a 24 hour place but they wont cash a money order, same in a few other spots. I've never panhandled in my life but that seems to be the only way I'm getting home to Queens, when I spot two Transit cops. I go over and tell them my tale of woe and show them the money order. They laugh and open the security door giving me a free ride.

Best way is a firm NO.

Anything else just encourages the beggars.

Casino beggars sometime straddle the line between beggar and hustler. Anything other than a firm NO, and they may see you as a mark.

If a firm NO doesn't work, than a nasty NO always works. I can get nasty, but I never include personal ad hominous attacks. Including a curse word with the NO always solves the problem.

Something like this happened to me at my job recently.. A loyal customer who is sweet, friendly, and bubbly gave me a sob story of not having money to take her bus rides for the day. She begged me for $10, which is actually roughly how much taking 4 bus rides cost, and she told me she would pay me the next time she saw me. I loaned her the money and told her I would be working on that Sunday. She agreed to pay me back. I was actually COVERING another person in another department who was on vacation when she walked in, so my educated guess was that she was planning on begging him for money. Sunday she came in to buy her items and claimed that she thought I said Monday, which was reasonable since Sunday and Monday actually sound alike. She told me she was going to come back on that Monday with my money. I said "Okay,". She never came back. I later told the guy that I had been covering that she scammed me out of my money. He said,"She has begged me for money before but I just told her I didn't have cash on me." My educated guess was correct. How ironic that I gave the advice to be careful loaning money to acquaintances and I ended up doing just that and got burned badly.
