For those planning ahead, I think I'm going to not do the G2E meetup this year. Last year we had a very small turnout. I'm fine with having a dinner after the show one night but it won't be an official thing and there won't be a trivia challenge.

Since the founding of this site, I've been mentioning off and on the total eclipse on August 21 of this year. I'm planning to view it near Idaho Falls, ID. Some people have indicated interest in joining me. Just a reminder about that.

Small time APs like myself don't have time to do group hugs...

Maybe that's my problem.

While I understand many aspects of AP, I have little time or desire to go the AP route, and keep forgetting how WoV is a hot-bed of AP people.

Perhaps I'm not disillusioned at all. It's just that I'm more in it for the comradery and fun.

And group hugs. :)

Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? Note that the same could be said for Religion. I.E. Religion is nothing more than organized superstition.

I am one who is also interested in that. My wife and I have talked about it as recently as yesterday, but we have not made any reservations -- rooms or transportation.

If we are flying 3/4 the way across the country for a two-minute event, we need to plan what else we will do on that trip. Candidate items on the list so far are Yellowstone and Grand Teton (but without the hiking that would be great except for our very limited stamina), a tour of the Salt Lake area, and some chip collecting in the northeastern area of Nevada.

That last activity could potentially extend all the way over to Reno and Tahoe, but on the other hand we could potentially cover that area again (for new chips) as an extension of a Spring Fling trip. We tried to do that at a previous Spring Fling, but a late season snow at Tahoe discouraged that. Anyway, we are open to making two trips to that part of the country, one in spring and one in August, and we are trying to get our muddled thoughts organized.

I wI'll ve in Vegas from April 8th through 15th but we are flying in at 7pm on that Saturday so it would probably be tough to make to a meet up even if it were on that Saturday. Originally we were going to fly in on Friday but flight prices sky rocketed on me.

Well, it seems that MrV's thread drew some moderate interest for two days and then dropped off the radar. Perhaps that was because no one suggested a specific date for discussions. I noted that a WoVCon East III is being planned for the Pittsburgh area (for April 29 and/or 30) and that there could possibly be someone interested joining meet ups in both the East and Vegas. Mike suggested that we avoid Spring Break week, which he thinks will be April 9-16 (with Easter falling on 4/17/17.) GWAE mentioned his plans to be in Las Vegas (almost exactly the days that Mike had already advised against, but perhaps because Spring Break is the convenient time for GWAE) but said his schedule didn't look good for attending a meet even if it were held on the Saturday he will be there.

While we have these "let's not do it then" suggestions, no one has put up a positive suggestion for others to consider. I'll try stirring the pot by making a specific suggestion: Suppose we consider a WoV Spring Fling 2017 on the weekend surrounding Saturday 4/22/17, and extending from as early (Thur/Fri) to as late (Mon/Tue) as attendees might like. If there are WoV fanatics who would like to meet one group in Vegas and another in Pittsburgh, they can probably schedule direct flights between the cities and attend gatherings on consecutive weekends. (Nope, that won't be me.)

So my real, baseline suggestion is that we figure out what weekend is likely to be most attractive for the largest number of people who would like to gather in Las Vegas, then after there is some degree of consensus on that we can focus on the specific activities and the locations. Who would be up for making it that weekend around 4/22?

The weekend of 4/22 sounds perfect to me.

I was just looking at flights and that works well. I'm going to do a chip run up to Reno again, I think I have 7 or so new chips to collect on the way there and back. I'll ether come a week early or stay a week after the spring fling because 2 of the chips I want to collect are only available on Friday and Saturday which obviously doesn't work since it overlaps with spring fling.

Which two? I am seriously considering a Reno run as part of that trip, too.

My list includes El Capitan (Hawthorne), Grand Lodge (former Hyatt Regency in Incline Village), Hard Rock (former Horizon, Lake Tahoe), Max (former Carson Station, Carson City), Nugget (former JA's Nugget in Sparks), and Pioneer Crossing (former Casino West, Yerington). Are there more I should be considering, and are some on this list only available on weekends?

I also have on my list both Boulder Bay (former Biltmore) and Cal Neva, both in Crystal Bay, but I don't think either has completed renovations and re-opened table games with new chips. Similar issue with the Terrible's Road House (former Gold Strike down in Jean). There are a few I think I can pick up in the Las Vegas area.
