I was at a new(to me) casino for the first time. I was playing a machine next to a friend and we were splitting action. When we were finished playing we added up the credits and figured out how much we were up(nice to be up something after a terrible start and it was looking bad until the end).

IIRC the cocktail waitresses came as I was about to leave the machine. The casino was busy with people waiting to get on our machines, so I tried to be courteous and exit my machine ASAP.

We walked around for 15 minutes or so and decided cash in our tickets. When he asked me where my ticket was, I thought he was F-ing with me. I thought I may have handed it to him or he grabbed it. After checking my pockets I retraced my steps in my head, but I couldn't remember actually cashing out my machine. I just remember tallying up the amounts and then tipping for my drink.

We went back to the machine (I was 99% certain the ticket and culprits would be gone). It wasn't a small amount either, the ticket was slightly over 1k. Yep, it was gone.

I gave up hope because I don't think I have never recovered a stolen or lost ticket. I actually didn't even want to go through the hassle of contacting security and management just to get told sorry it's gone. My friend convinced me to try.

After finding a floor person and explaining the situation, he checked the machine history, he confirmed my ticket had been cashed out of the and not played down. He called management who quickly came. Everyone was very sympathetic.

I was asking what would happen if the person found it, cashed it and left. She said that all depends and explained they would possibly even call the state police as a last resort. But she said not to worry, because normally people don't cash them out and leave, they usually just cash them out and run to their favorite machines. She got on the radio and tried cancel the ticket, however it had already been cashed. She said, "Don't worry we will find them."

The next thing you know she quickly ran off with a bunch of security guards.

A few minutes latter she came back and explained a woman had taken it, cashed it out and started gambling on a slot with the money. They had her give back the rest of the cash because she had only 1k (slightly less than the ticket).

Anyway, they were able to retrieve the film, track the ticket, the person and events in short order.

I think I got part lucky, but mostly I recovered due to modern human behavior. Had that person left I'm thinking i wouldn't have recovered.

Great news.
Shows how dumb gamblers can be ( her not you )
She had $1k of cold hard cash and was happier to take the double risk of losing it to the slots and getting caught red-handed with it. The AP was surely for her to leg it off the premises and invest in a wig, some glasses and a fake beard.

Great you got it back. The ordeal must have shaken you up a little. I have heard of this happening before. Shows how sick, and dishonest people can be.

A couple of months ago one night I realized I had left my ticket in a machine. I walked very fast back to that machine and saw a guy sitting there. I jammed him up, essentially accused him of stealing my ticket, ready to fight him. Suddenly he said, "You were playing at THAT machine" as he pointed to the slant top next to him. Oooops. There was my ticket. I've never felt like a bigger jerk. I would have felt even worse if he kicked my ass.

They did their best with the technology available. And it wasn't any of this fill out this form while the culprit escapes nonsense.

Obviously criminals do lurk in and around casinos: follow drunks to their room, pickpockets, pilfer chips, etc.

This was clearly the work of some player who suddenly thought they were rich and was not all that bright.

Obviously if someone has a one K or so ticket that is a gambler the casino want to keep happy. Its similar to playing with black chips versus red chips. The casino tries not to anger the black chip player or disappoint him in any way.

Some lapse on the part of the slot player probably took her ID but I doubt they would prosecute, she clearly is not a professional cheater or someone who follows winners to their vehicles. More a lapse in judgement when a red chip player finds a black chip on the floor.

The same thing happened to my mother at Caesars Windsor..... everybody got involved very quickly and the lady who had cashed her ticket was found in short order....but no so fast that she had not had enough time to gamble the money away. She was BANNED from the casino EXCEPT to come in to the security office in the next 30 days to repay the amount of the ticket( Just over $100 ) otherwise if not repaid in 30 days she would be barred for life from the casino..... three weeks or so later mom goes to the security office and asks if by chance the lady had come and repaid the money..... security guy says she had just come in a few days earlier and he gets mom her money.... a bag full of coins total amount of the ticket. Coins converted to dollar bills at the cashiers booth.

They asked my mother if she wanted her charged with the theft the night it happened.... mom said she just wanted her money back if possible.

Once given a starting point ( place and time) they can track these people down pretty fast if still in the casino

I'll say it's a wash because we went back a second time and my stellar slot play raped just about every machine I came across. I'll probably never have a run like that again. If only I was making a how to beat slots video.

We're not talking monster hits and wins, but considering the low amount I started with, the denominations, the coin in and number of machines(12+), it looked as if I had a guaranteed foolproof system.

You are very lucky your thief was a dumbass who stayed in the casino.

I've never recovered a lost or stolen ticket. The last one I left in the machine was about $150. I got a call from a friend in a semi-emergency situation and left quickly. Came back 30 minutes later. They ran down the machine history. It was cashed five minutes after I left and security didn't bother reviewing the tape.

I'd be interested to know what casino or casino chain this was if you don't mind sharing. We should share positive experiences.

I have fond memories of the Westward Ho. Not only the Ho Dog, but that was the first casino to have a player tracking system installed that ran off of personal computers. I have some from the original Frontier cards along with multiple other original cards. I had a nice collection unfortunately the sun messed up most of them. I still have a bunch of blackjack room tokens. People loved that BJ room system.

I got that card near the end of 2006. I have no recollection of what it looked like in there or anything else. Same goes for Sahara.
DUHHIIIIIIIII HEARD THAT!

Holy shit. I wonder how many people really really don't get it about casinos being able to track practically everything and video tape all. Finders keepers in a casino? I don't think so. And if she left, couldn't she had cashed some other day? And if you didn't report it, the casino would probably not be looking at that ticket as anything out of the ordinary, and she may have gotten away with theft.

But I don't know how that would have entered anyone's mind to take something like that and leave anyways.
Well, yes I do, just not my or honest peoples minds. I had found a 200+ dollar ticket in a lone progressive stand of machines. It was right between machines and I saw it when I was almost done. I had to look twice to see if it was what I thought. I got right up, walked straight to the cashier, (with the ticket in full view in my hand) gave it to the cashier and told her exactly where I found it, what time, etc. First she looked at me like I was crazy and then she took my name and minor info, and thanked me. I went right back to the same machine and played for some time. No one said anything to me, and no one came to that area looking all upset. I don't know why she took any info either because she didn't explain. Oh well. But I always sleep good.

Glad you reported it and got it back.

My Smart Phone NOT So smart.

See what the auto correct did up there. I need to see if there is a way for it to forget it's vocab because it auto corrects to non sense. I had to fix eight words in that paragraph.

What fun would that be. Then you'd stop about 27% of the internet traffic showing stupid auto corrects.
