Greetings!

I am creating this thread primarily to use to announce new Articles that I have written for either Wizard of Vegas or Wizard of Odds. Most of these Announcements will be for Wizard of Vegas, though, as I have only written one or two Pages for the Wizard of Odds site.

For the time being, I'll link my three most recent Articles. As a courtesy, I would request that any comments Members may have about Articles be posted in the Comment section of the page that the Article is on. This will help me gauge the interests of the readers of this site and put out Articles that are more closely suited to the interest of the Members here.

The most recent Article is about the Black Diamond Casino Bonus:

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/Black-Diamond-Casino-Bonus/

I have written many Articles about beatable Bonuses/Promotions for online casinos, so I would encourage any interested parties to peruse those. There have been roughly a dozen (maybe more) such Articles.

The second most recent article is called, "Free Play, if You Stay":

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/Free-Play-If-You-Stay/

This Article is about how casinos are tightening the belt straps on players who come in and use Free Play or Match Play without giving the house any other play that day. It also discusses the difference in Trip ADT v. Monthly ADT and how much a player is really worth to the casino.

The third most recent Article is called, "Cocktails, Anyone?":

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/Cocktails-Anyone/

This Article is about a casino in Vegas that is trying an automated drink comp coupon maker on its bartop machines, as opposed to the bartender simply giving out comp drinks based on his/her perception of whether or not the player is playing enough. The questions this Article asks are, "Does it actually make sense for the casinos to do this?" and, "Is this something more casinos are likely to implement?"

I hope that all of the Members here enjoy the Articles that I write, as well as Internet users who may not be Members, and of course, I hope these Articles compel new individuals to become Members of the site. Enjoy!

As a matter of fact, I only recently realized you were writing a bunch of articles. You've really been kicking them out! WoO too eh?

A bump to this thread once in a while is a good idea.

PS: where are the WoO articles?

I know I wrote two WoO pages, and one of which is, "Getting Started," under the, "Gambling Online," tab. The other is, "The (Less) Wild West of Online Gambling."

I actually haven't been quite kicking out as many as I am supposed to be, but I'm working on it!!!

Thanks for the compliment! I'll never get a Pulitzer, but hopefully I'll end up being well-regarded as a skilled gambling writer.

Thanks to everyone else who chimed in on this thread, too! There will be a few new ones coming out in the next couple days. I notice many of the Vegas bloggers take weekends off, so my strategy is to try to have a good few Articles come out on weekends to fill the gap.

Greetings!

The first of two Articles to come out today is a follow-up to my, 'Much Ado About Two,' Article which kind of looks at it from the side of a team who is down 7-0 and then scores a Touchdown:

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/Much-Ado-About-Two-Part-II/

As the Article will detail, I really think teams going for two in that situation result in a much better chance of the paradigm of defaulting to the PAT being changed.

The second of today's Articles is about the player suing Hard Rock Las Vegas over unlawful detainment. I'm obviously very pro-player on this issue:

Greetings!

The first three parts of a four-part series of Articles came out today re-visiting the Full Tilt Scandal, Howard Lederer, Black Friday and the question of whether or not Lederer and Chris Ferguson should be banned from sanctioned tournament poker.

I sincerely hope that everyone will take the time to read, and hopefully enjoy, these Articles. I believe they are among my best Articles and they are the product of over twenty hours of research.

The fourth part asking, "Was Full Tilt Poker a Ponzi Scheme," and a related Article on payment processing will be coming out in the next few days.

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/Going-On-Tilt-Fully-Part-1/

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/Going-on-Tilt-Fully-Part-2/

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/Going-on-Tilt-Fully-Part-3/

Furthermore, if anyone out there happens to be a Member of any of the Forums more devoted strictly to Poker, I would appreciate a mention (i.e. link) if you think the Articles are worthy of being read by Members of Forums more devoted to Poker. I'm not touting these Articles at any such sites because I am not a Member of any such sites and would not want to be seen as Spamming by way of promoting my Articles in my very first post.

Excellent articles Mission

The processing fees on the deposits is outrageous. Those people processing the deposits were making a killing

What I don't understand was the site was crediting deposits that were still pending
Seems a terrible way of doing business
What I don't understand is either the deposit goes through or it does not, somebody has the money
If the pending deposit goes through eventually, fulltilt gets the money owed to them
If the deposit never goes through, doesn't the depositer get all their money back and full tilt debit he account they previously debited.

Thanks for the compliment!!!

The fees are high because, for U.S. processors, it was a dangerous thing to do. Chad Elie did five months, mostly because he copped a plea. Furthermore, a portion of that processing fee also goes to another third party for whom the charge purportedly exists, in other words, the guys who make the transaction look NOT casino-related. I'll have an Article going into more detail on that very shortly.

Crediting the accounts with pending deposits is and was a very slippery slope. On the one hand, sure, of course you'd want the money first; but on the other hand, you want the players to be able to play without delay...not weeks later.

I kind of wish you'd made the comment on the Articles as this is great clarification opportunity...lol...maybe a copy/paste for a friend?

Anyway, yes, someone has the money at such time that the money is actually removed from the bank account or credit card. While the main problems were disbursements to owners that shouldn't have been paid and backlogged deposits, processor theft was also not unheard of. The main problem was, it had reached a point where they couldn't get the funds out of the bank accounts or credit cards for various reasons.

If the deposit doesn't go through, the depositor usually, possibly never, ceased having the money to begin with. That's why I think there certainly had to be players and friends of players deliberately free-rolling.

With respect to Debiting the person's Player Account, as stated in the Article, of about 130 million in backlogged deposits, only 10 million remained in the accounts of the players in question. Between the rake and losing the money to superior players, the rest of the 120ish million went to players from whom they could not rightfully take it, or to the rake itself. The result is they were on the hook for money they never actually had in the first place, or they raked money that effectively didn't exist.

Makes sense if you think about it: It stands to reason that inferior players will generally deposit more frequently than superior ones.

The second most recent Article is with respect to the New Jersey Appellate Court upholding Borgata's apparent right to restrict the weight of their waitresses...but that's not all (or the end!) of that story:

Anytime the talk on Comps comes up it will trigger a response from me.
I play for the Comps and expect to lose in the casino.
You see this is what I do.
I would bet on the electronic roulette terminal, $2 on 0 (single 0 here) and $36 on red and black every round. So I lose $2 every round. But the casino award me 0.2 points every time. Effectively I am buying 1 point for every $10. For 10 points I get a free night on the cruise ship. This works out to be about 15% for cash purchase for the cruise. I am always wondering if the casino can or will cancel my casino membership sometime down the line.
You see in any casino, a private property, they can stop you from playing if the don't like your style of play. In my case I am not actually gambling. So they may not like my play. I am buying the cruise (on the cheap).
So the conclusion in your article comes into question.

"If I operated a casino, my philosophy would be akin to, "An empty slot chair makes nothing," but an hour of players who are only worth a few cents apiece that hour makes very close to nothing. As with anything else in a cash-driven business, it's a balancing act, and different casinos may draw the line where they believe the scales to be balanced in different places."

Just the other day 1 guy was betting on the baccarat table $100 on player and banker every round. The pit boss soon told him he cannot play this way. He was furious and said why and where does it say he cannot play this way. If the Banker6 comes up he would lose $50 to the casino. The casino as I understand it deem that he is not gambling and playing for the points. So what you said about the "balancing act" would appear to come up short here.

"An empty slot chair makes nothing," the corollary "a filled slot chair cost money".

Also the casinos have a finite number of seats, especially at table games, so I can see why they want to maximize the profit per seat. I think that not enough consideration is made for lost opportunity. In the above baccarat example on a Friday night the casino is losing a large opportunity by that gambler because they are taking a precious finite seat producing a very limited expected return compared to another gambler using that seat. I wonder if a pit boss would care if it was 3am on a Wed.

Actually the guy was playing 1 to1 with the dealer.
So to the casino it is not about the lost opportunity or 3am. It is a matter of principle for the casino or any other casino if I am not wrong. If you are not gambling there they do not want you.
I myself play the $100 baccarat table often because my theoretical loss is much less than buying points from the roulette terminals in the casino.
But I only play on the bac table if the table is just about full, last seat left.
With squeezing the cards and insurance offered the speed of play I timed is down to about 20 rounds per hour. I just bet the same player or banker like the other players. At the average of 1.35% house advantage my theoretical loss would be $27. For each hour of play I get 6 points based on table minimum. So it is less than half of buying the points.
I only use the roulette terminal to push me over 10, 20 or 30 points mark. Or it is late in the night for me, or there are not many bac players. And this is very legit play.

Regarding playing both player and banker at the same time:

If the pit boss was right, then every time one player sits down and plays one side, and another player sits down and plays the other, one not knowing the other from Adam, then the casino loses money. Right.

I don't have to do the math.

I was being sarcastic. I guess such pit bosses [see upthread] figure the casino is only breaking even and shouldn't be comping a player playing both sides because then the house loses money [in his thinking]. This is totally false of course.

Two Articles have just come out within the last hour, or so:

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/Down-the-Drain/

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/How-to-Avoid-Casino-Bums/

The first Article linked above details the events at the Borgata Winter Poker Open of January 2014 in which Christian Lusardi was found to have introduced counterfeit tournament chips.

The second Article is simply a Tips & Tricks Article for avoiding people who would otherwise attempt to bum money off of you in the casino. Much of the advice will apply more to recreational players than AP's, (who all probably already know how to handle the situation) but I hope it still provides a decent read.

I haven't posted in this thread, but I just wanted to mention that I think you are a fantastic writer Mission. May years ago I was one of 2 college students in Az chosen to write for a pretty new newspaper that not a lot of people knew about. They wanted to really start covering sports in detail and needed someone to take reports from every spring training baseball game and then create small stories on the days events. Everyone now knows of the USA Today. I've since ghost written for people and won a few minor contests.

So from someone that knows writing, my hat is off to you Mission.

I was always good at it, but it was never something I enjoyed. I was recommended for the USA Today job by my college English teacher, but I declined. They asked for one from my college and one From Arizona State University.

The casino business was what I always wanted to do, but just didn't get a chance until after I had paid the bills with a real job for a while. :)

I agree but I feel he could use an editor sometimes. I don't mean that in a nasty way ... just that I think I can tell no one is helping him by taking the time to read over it before it gets posted. Who couldn't benefit from that?

Greetings!

My most recent Article relates to the possibility that certain MGM properties may eventually be planning to charge for parking. This Article simultaneously offers my opinion as well as what I imagine that (parody and fictitious) Board of Directors meeting might have been like:

For those concerned about my impartiality, here are some changes to online gaming I hate:

If that's not enough proof, then here is me NOT recommending a new partner promotion due to the Terms and Conditions. As an aside, if you are a slits or Keno player, it's an okay Promotion.

This is a response to anyone surprised by the, 'Free Play for Everybody,' type offers:

Greetings!

Here are the most recent two Articles, and there will be a flurry of Articles to come in the next few days:

This Article highlights my reaction, from a gambling standpoint, to the Holm v. Rousey UFC Women's Championship fight of last week:

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/Holm-vs-Rousey-Reaction/

This Article is about whether or not it is generally a profitable decision to take counter measures against machine AP's:

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/Casino-Countermeasures/

Finally, this Article is with respect to the fact that Aria is apparently no longer comping top shelf liquor:

Our good friend Vlad is to thank for the fact that these get posted so quickly after final Edits!

The following Article explores the conditions under which I think Peyton Manning might return in 2016 if we assume that he does not win the Super Bowl and continues to perform poorly for the Broncos:

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/will-peyton-play-again/

This Article is advice for first-time Craps players, that might not necessarily fit the demographic of the denizens of these Forums, in terms of established posters, but I hope that newbies can find it useful and it may still be worth a read:

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/Virgin/

This Article is about the purchase of ACR Energy Partners by Glenn Straub and what it could potentially mean for the casino formerly known as Revel:

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/revel-again/

Finally, this is the first of many Articles that takes a look at various Video Poker Games from the perspective of Variance and what a player might be looking for. The goal of this series of Articles is really just to provide a quick summary of the different Video Poker offerings that are out there so people might have a quicker time perusing the Odds site for games they may like:

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/video-poker-Part-1-of-unknown/

There are likely to be three more Articles to come in the next few days, I hope everyone enjoys these Articles and comments!

I think you have a typo:
Furthermore, in that increased Quins version, the starting break even hand is usually Two Paid whereas it is typically Kings or Better or Aces or Better in, "Normal," Joker Poker.

Should be Two Pair?
Craps is paradise (Pair of dice). Lets hear it for the SpeedCount Mathletes :)

" How he performs in the last few games of this year and/or the Playoffs "

If Brock Osweiler continues to improve. Peyton may not play again this year.

Greetings!

I have written an Article with a little bit of rudimentary analysis in an effort to answer whether the Pats or Panthers would finish the regular season undefeated. Please note that the Article was written before the Patriots game had been played (that is hours from now) and also before the Panthers game had been played, but it was Edited AFTER the Panthers game had been played, but I didn't know Westgate's updated Lines.

Therefore, the Article remains in the context that the Panthers/Cowboys game had not yet been played, but I do plan to update it eventually in the event that someone is kind enough to get me Westgate's updated Odds on the Future Bet.

Greetings!

The first Article I'm announcing today relates to five casino policies (one redacted in the comments!) that make absolutely no sense to me. I'm hoping to generate even more comments on this Article and am curious if anyone has any to add:

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/five-strange-policies/

The second Article for today is another Article looking at Video Poker games, this time I'm looking at games in which there is a game involving some kind of bonus hands. As many of you know, such games are somewhat unusual for Video Poker as most special features involve increased pays or some kind of multipliers. There's also a game in this Article that can be played in live casinos that I bet almost nobody has ever heard of!

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/video-poker-part-2-of-unknown/

Finally, we have a new type of Article called, 'News and Notes,' that I hope to do on a weekly basis. These Articles will cover various subjects upon which there is not enough to write to have a full Article. I'm not sure why I didn't think of this before:

https://wizardofvegas.com/article/news-and-notes/

This week's News and Notes include:

The Seminoles new compact in Florida

Revel Looking for an Operator to Lease the Casino

A Loss Rebate Promotion in Biloxi

Salon Package Deals

The El Cortez Free Play Give Away for ATM Withdrawals

The Put Bet? Absolutely not. Please Comment on the Article Page, if you'd be so kind.
