Went to get my mail today and saw a mailed offer from my local casino.

Picture of middle aged Asian man and woman cheering at a baccarat win.

5 different Asian languages written in the front page. "Lucky win" something something

I'm offended because I'm an AP and they project me like a degenerate superstitious baccarat Asian.

I'm really offended because they obtained this information via means that are technically not meant for racially profiled advertising. I never gave them my race, so it must have came from the name. And the name is meant for other purposes. This is as disturbing as advertising companies digging into passwords to find clues to the person's advertise-able traits.

As another Asian myself, it's actually in our best interest to be treated as a degenerate superstitious baccarat Asian. Would you rather the casino know about your AP activities, games you play, and try to deduct whether or not you can beat them or not? This will not bode well for your survivability.

Asian hosts seem more giving to their clients. I have gotten comps that I felt I probably wouldn't have if I weren't Asian. They seem to project some kinda, "Hey we take care of our own." type of mentality which is in our favor. Racist yes but sometimes it's better to let people think you are a sucker.

One thing I see often on table games is the degenerate Asian gambler who spreads $5 to $300 (they aren't counting) with a pit boss who barely bats an eyelid because so many of them do this because of a hunch. Sometimes it's best to let casino people think you're a "gambler", instead of the stereotypical MIT-sweater wearing card counter.

So you're saying you have never been there before where someone could have seen you're possibly asian. Unfortunately this sounds like discrimination at best in your favor, so you can just give the money back.

I can understand why that would be frustrating.

However, if you are an AP, wouldn't that be good for you? I would imagine if you are an AP you would do everything in your power to appear as superstitious and stupid of a player as possible?

Profiling is very common among casino marketing departments. Two players play the same amount of coin in at the same machine, one a female, the other a male, the female will get mail offer that can be up to twice as much as her male counterpart. Likewise for Asian sounding names. Casinos also use income date for different zip codes and will market differently for players playing the same amounts based on that income data. It's 2014....get used to it.

On the plus side, it's simple, BE an Asian female living in a high income district and you make out like a bandit. Personally, I am having trouble pulling off, the Asian female thing. :(

Lol, an "advantage player" who is UPSET the house is treating him like a degenerate, superstitious Asian?

This is a joke. "Degenerate and superstitious" is EXACTLY the kind of image successful APs want to portray to the casinos. And you're complaining about it?

Ian Anderson wrote almost an entire book about how he tries to model his blackjack cover after the superstitious Asian player.

Also, what do you mean that the information was "technically not meant for racially profiled advertising"? There's no law against mailing players with Asian names marketing materials geared toward Asians. Where did you get the idea that the casino couldn't use the name you gave when you signed up for its marketing program them to market to you?

Are you really this naive? When you sign up for a player's card, the casino uses all of the information you gave them to market to you. That's the entire point of the player's card program. They not only use your name, but also your address to figure out what kind of lifestyle you might have.

It would be stupid of them not to analyze the information you voluntarily provided to them.

Maybe encourage their wrong impression by always carrying a lucky $8 chip and fidgeting with it.

I heard it's unlucky to be superstitious, but I didn't hear anything about pretending to be superstitious...

In my local casino the pit kisses the Asians
asses because they lose so much. A few of
them bet the max every time. They win a
lot and they lose a lot. Asian men are always
asking for free cigs, I've never seen them get
turned down.

I love how I get mailers in random languages, despite how I elect to receive everything in English. No, I do not read Vietnamese, Japanese, or Korean. (Ignoring that, if they have somebody on staff to specifically target Asians based on name, they should be able to make a fair guess as to what language to use, based on that name.)

I did. Her name is Patty Wagstaff, and she's a past World Acrobatic Champion. It was a very proud day each time I worked her. Also, as a pilot in training, I have flown an airplane upside down. On purpose. Several times. Also barrel rolled, inside loops, Cuban 8's, Immelmanns, and hammerheads. The Cuban 8 made me puke, just a little, so I only tried it once. The others I managed.

It's a very old joke, been around for 150 years.
In the new PC world, very little is grandfathered
in. In it's time, that joke was very funny indeed.
Some people just don't keep up with the times
and still think it's accepted.
