In honor of the upcoming event in Kentucky, we should have a race here on site. In fact it has already started, we are measuring this race by posts, management not included. Here were the results on April 17 at 4 AM EDT:

DJTeddyBear 822 posts
boymimbo 636 posts
pacomartin 585 posts
AZDuffman 375 posts
Nareed 372 posts

In the twelve days since we have had one dropping out, a Flea making a charge, but nothing is stopping the charge to the front of pacomartin as he should finish in front by Kentucky Derby Day. Of course their race ends, ours has no end in site..... Results on April 29th at 2 AM EDT:

DJTeddyBear 899 posts
pacomartin 725 posts
boymimbo 677 posts
Nareed 431 posts
FleaStiff 397 posts

Funny. My problem is that I don't post much more because I'm getting work done ;)

This gives me an idea. Before the race I'll assign the top posters each a horse, the top poster getting the one most likely to win, according to the betting odds, and moving down. The winner of the race will get a free gift. I'll post the horse assignments sometime before the race.

By the way, my post count is 814, but I'll exclude myself from the running.

This sounds like a great idea. Shame I'm not in the running. Although I would probably be the 100-1 rank outsider. Im a sucker for a long shot.

Maybe if it takes off you could do an International Version, or maybe a U.S. vs rest of world, using various sporting events.

This will be my 63rd post, so I'm way behind, too. I prefer quality over quantity. :+) Looking at anther forum I post at, I've only made 79 posts and I've been a member since July of 2006.

Hmmm...

Ya know, I wasn't even planning on watching the race. Now I got something to look forward to!

But it looks like, with only around 48 hours left, that I get the favorite. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Current stats:
DJTeddyBear - 905
pacomartin - 733
boymimbo - 687
Nareed - 440
FleaStiff - 397

On the flip side, I'm happy that one of the threads that I started is in the Top-5!

Me doth protest the judging criteria of this contest.
After all, the Derby does not run for an infinite amount of time, otherwise the horses that started a month earlier would never be caught.

Randomly pick a past date and take members with most posts from that date.
Randomly pick 10 past dates, and take the top ten posters in total from those dates.
Randomly pick any past week, and award horses to the top ten thread starters.
Create a thread for people to post their best gambling related joke. Top jokes win a horse.

However, since I cannot think of any criteria where I could be a contender ;-), and since I will be playing craps for the next 3 days at Beau Rivage anyway (watching the stinking oil slick invade the coastline), I guess I will protest in silence.

1. Framed Dogs Playing Poker print.
2. Wizard of Odds polo shirt and copy of Gambling 102.

I'm negotiable regarding other ideas.

I'm very happy with Stately Victor. He won at 40 to 1 in his last start and I had a piece. Most horse players know this is the money making race of the year, because there are so many people betting names and hunches and silly stuff that the pools are never where they should be based on the strength of the horses. My choice right now is a Show bet on Devil May Care, because the Place and Show pools are always inflated in these situations, and the filly is carrying less weight (big advantage), and remember, even though Eight Belles died last year, she came in 2nd and paid nicely on Place and Show.

Two and a half hours to post time and I just finished setting up to DJ a backyard political Derby party!

And they have open access wifi! :)

3. Dinner at the restaurant of your choice with me at the Red Rock casino.

Wow. Great choice of prizes.

1. I've always wanted a copy of that stupid print!

2. Hmmm... Ya got any 4X shirts? Then again, if you upgrade and make it an autographed copy of Gaming 102, then this becomes a great prize too.

3. Dinner with the Wiz? Now you're talking!

By the way, regarding your tag line:
Quote:

It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

So a freeroll on the Derby, even without the option of picking the horse, is still a good bet, right?

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't know a filly from a donkey, but I'm happy to have the favorite!

But that's my horse right?

I mean, that's what the Wiz posted, so that's the horse I'm rooting for!

Personally, I'm kinda glad it might not be the favorite. Favorites are overrated. Gimme an underdog!

----

Yeah, that's right. I just contradicted myself to suit the situation. Like you've never done that....

Wow. I won something! Wow. Usually I can't even hit 7 or 11 in the casino's elevator!!

Now perhaps I'll be able to wade through Gambling 102 while wearing a shirt sized "Super Large Beer Belly".

NOTE: I had not clicked on this thread because it said Wizard MEMORIAL horse race ... and its poor form to term something a "memorial" to a person who is living!
