Rainy, windy, cold. I saw rain that was suspiciously white and floating horizontally. And tomorrow is freaking MAY.

They haven't even removed the ice dam yet. Lake Erie is still 32 degrees. This time last year I was already out on my boat and the lake was almost 60*.

If anyone has a coal fired heater, a pre-70s car, or is hankering for a tire fire, I plead that you engage them all immediately and simultaneously.

That's upstream. All that ice that broke up there is trapped here in my backyard. There's already conspiracy stories aplenty how "National Fuel bribed the Army Corps of Engineers to leave the dam in to keep the temps down and heat on" lol

I just need some heat and sun. Tired of having to bundle up for every little thing

Wind chill was 25 degrees in Denver this AM. If it weren't global warming, I'm guessing the wind chill would have closer to 15.....

So what, your just going to spend the next 4 months indoors? lol. It isn't really even that hot today. But admittedly the first 100 degree day seems hot as your body hasn't yet adjusted.

Where is the actual thermometer? in the sun? On the way home from Eastside Can a bit ago, I saw a temperature reading on a store East Flamingo road that said 106 and The temperature on top of Binions downtown always reads hotter because they are in the sun. Doesn't really matter, it's all POOL weather. :)

I moved exactly a year ago during this scorching heat..... From Seattle no less. I'm out and about in between casinos so I'm better off then most. One thing casinos are great at is climate control. Also I've always hated the sun, and grew accustnoed to Seattle rain. I enjoy it every time I fly back for work.

I know few here share my concern for our homeless population, but the first real hot days can be brutal and dangerous for the homeless. There bodies haven't had a chance to adjust and I have been told alcohol somehow interferes with the body regulating temperature and as we can see, alcohol is in the mix with most of them.

Nope, the sensor is definitely in the shade on the covered patio with a slight breeze. I think an old mercury thermometer would burst. It always seems hotter when around a lot of asphalt. The concrete jungle and all. I'm down here in Lake Havasu where I saw a t-shirt that said Lake Havasu 118 with chill factor. And another one that said this isn't Hell, but you can see it from here. lol

Good call on the homeless in another post, at least hand out our free waters. I always travel with extra ice water and hand it out to hitch hikers, haven't been turned down for a free offer yet and everyone of them I do believe was sincerely thankful.

About 58 degrees riding my bicycle home from work today.
A bit chilly for me so had jeans and thick sweatshirt to keep warm.
Starting my ride, felt a bit chilly.
Next intersection another bicycle rider pulls up in shorts and t-shirt.
All of a sudden, didn't feel so cold :-)

A few weeks ago I swapped my wardrobe out from my wife beater shirts to a light T-shirt, now I am having to move up to a heavier T. If it gets any colder [63* still @ midnight] then I may have to buy a pair of long pants. I currently don't own any that fit. Maybe for Xmas?

The weather now is truly why the sno-birds migrate. Even with cold wrecking havoc on most the US, it still makes it into the 80's during the day. Not rubbing anything in but I was thinking about it while I hosed off my deck one more time before winter.

Lol, we thrive on cold, were raised on cold
winters. I lived in a warm climate for 7
years, you can have it. It attracts every
kind of weirdo, reject, and mentally
challenged derelict you can imagine.
It's why I moved back to MI, the trade
off isn't worth it. You still have the same
problem we all have in winter, short days
and early sunset. That's the difference
between summer and winter, not the
temperature.

I was so disappointed my first winter in SoCal.
There was no snow, so what. I got out of work
and it was pitch black dark at 5pm. And on my
days off, you had to hurry with everything because
it started getting dark at 4 30. I realized I was
just as limited there as I was in MI. And I
had to put up with all the weirdos and bums
and jackasses who can live outdoors all winter.

Screw that. Don't post here bragging the temp
was 62 today in Jan, you can have it.. Been there
done that.

I was in this last night. I don't GAF about travel bans, so was just tooling around. Most of the trip was 15mph tops; probably averaged 8. People just stopping in the middle of everywhere, abandoning the effort

I was golfing on Sunday morning and freezing, it was 45 degrees in Las Vegas. I was miserable and am considering moving further south to avoid the cold.

I hadn't seen this post.

Yeah, there is no shortage of "weirdos". Apparently I am a magnet for weirdos, I run into them everywhere I go. As long as they aren't dangerous, I find them mostly entertaining. I even try to make sure some aren't too hungry.

I have noticed in the past that people do seem to get better [friendlier] above the 50th parallel. I can't prove it, but that is how it seemed?

Over here today it just turned 77 with about 8% humidity. I spent decades outside in the cold and the wet. Kodiak Ak, is a ice machine. I cannot afford to fall again and hit the ice. It is amazing how fast that ice can come up at you, and break an elbow or hip. Then, at the hospital although colder than a well diggers ass, I am Infirmed with a bunch of weirdos in the hospital regardless of my northern exposure.

I ran a sno plow for years, loved it. I also enjoyed my secret weapon for mundane tasks while plowing. Couldn't seem to get anyone else interested in shoveling roofs either, I had to take the dog plowing with me. He was the only non weirdo that would hang out ten hours a day in a sno plow.

Yeah, freezing my ass off I had to tell myself stuff like that too. It is amazing what we can rationalize and the lengths people will go to prove their ideas correct. lol
I had wood heat as my sole source of heat for 18 years. I loved that as well. Last winter I believe our home furnace kicked on maybe ten times?

At least Face has an excuse, he's a hockey player.lol But he may have had one to many pucks to the head?j/k This time of year is fantastic for everything outdoors. Hiking, golfing, fishing, camping, campfires, barbecues, flying, boating, everything the cold people try to squeeze in in their short summers when they can avoid work. But of course, each to their own.

The Baja 1000 race is coming soon, what a blast. Desert racing, looking for special rocks, good times.

edit: you live in MI, and don't notice any weirdos? Have you ever heard of Detroit? No weirdos in New York? Cheeseheads in Green Bay?

It's home.

Having to wear a suit last year was the nut low, for sure. But otherwise, there's gear for it. Like petro said, there's a lot of it that's awesome. Trout fishing, hiking, hunting, all get better when the weather turns deadly. And there's something majestic even about the cesspit of Buffalo when it's totally shut down and completely still. No bugs, clear sinuses, ain't nothin' wrong with that.

They're calling for a new record, which is saying something when talking WNY. It started at about 8p Sunday and ain't supposed to stop until Weds. We already have several feet; they're expecting it to climb to seven. Many of my friends are already on their sleds heading to the suburbs to rescue and assist with the thousands stranded.

The I-90 is shut. There's 4' on the thruway. Almost all side streets have been abandoned as even the plow drivers are jammed up. The rest of the state and the National Guard are arriving around the hour, as even the main arteries are going down.

My g/f's friends are kite boarders. You know, a big kite, a surf board, get towed around the lake. They were out yesterday taking advantage of the 30mph winds. I'm sort of a freestyle driver. 6p yesterday I headed straight into it for a spot of fun; didn't make it out until 10:30p. And it's typically a 90 minute ride.

Sure, I have to wear a bunch of layers of clothes made of materials that are created in laboratory. But you can only get so naked. Come July, I'll be running around outside. You try that and you'll die.

To each his own. I'd rather live in Fairbanks for the rest of my life than spend one summer in Vegas. And having recently visited Tampa in August, I can legitimately say I'd rather camp out inside a rhinoceros's colon. Actually, I suspect the experiences are identical.

I find them tiring and depressing, it's why I
left SoCal. I much prefer being surrounded
by hard working people who own things
and keep to themselves. I can't remember
the last time some weirdo came up to me
asking for something, 20 years maybe. If
it entertains you, you must be in heaven.
It's hell for me.

There's two places I refuse to live, Texas
and Florida. I would tolerate Vegas but
only because of the gambling.

TX and FL are hell holes for me. I can't
breathe in humid weather and I don't
have any lung problems. It's like torture.
There was a show on TV about a guy
with a pest business in Louisiana. He
was born there. On one episode he was
doing some job and was soaked in sweat
from the humidity. He said "I don't know
why people live here, it's miserable most
of the time. I was born here into a family
business, I have no choice,"

That's how I feel about those places when
I'm there, people live here on purpose?

I'm in Cincinnati which is frickin' cold at about 18. I'm taking the long way back to the falls on Thursday via Detroit. Should add about 40 minutes to my commute, but better than driving into a snowbank on i-90.

We left the Falls around 2pm on Sunday, and it was just starting to snow. I told the Missus -- no stopping until we're South of Cleveland... we've got to beat this thing.

Good thing we did.

The city was shut down for days. My cousin had a plowing contract with, I believe, the state and was told that he would not be needed for several days. His area, Rt 128, had thousands of abandoned cars that had to be removed before any plowing could commence. The city's first priority was to clear the runways at Logan Airport so the C130s from Fort Bragg could land with their payloads of bulldozers.

When my cousin finally got the call I went along to ride shotgun and I do mean shotgun. Some looters decided they were going to rob us and it was the first and only time in my life as a civilian that I pointed a weapon at someone.

For that and many other reasons, I will never forget the Blizzard of '78.

It's takes zero brains to live where it doesn't
snow in the winter. I know, I dealt with a
lot of those brainless people every day in
SoCal. You can have it, I wised up.

A cup of hot tea, an exciting book, warm blanket and a lot of snow outside the window - an incomparable pleasure.

Around 40F right now in Summerlin. And many of the natives here is screaming it is cold. LOL. What???

I can't take those winters of the Northeast anymore. Those bitter cold days from now to February are just too much.

The snow equivilent of a sandstorm if I ever saw one.
This one is a bad one... maybe the worst by Buffalo, NY standards.
And they know Jack Snow.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.
