A new gambling movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal is in production: "Mississippi Grind."

see ... Mississippi Grind

Looks like it could be good; I think Gyllenhaal is a very good actor (hello "Donnie Darko").

I exhausted my sources of good gambling movies (Rounders, The Gambler, Casino, etc) so hopefully this will be good. I like watching degens on screen.

Yeah, like "Owning Mahoney."

Classic gambling degeneracy.

How could you possibly call 'The Gambler', with Mark Wahlberg, a good movie. It's horrible....one of the most stupid gaming related movies I've ever seen. Was sooooo disappointed. Now Casino, Rounders, The Sting.....those are great gambling related movies.

And you guys always miss "Fever Pitch". Perhaps Ryan O'Neal's best movie other than "Chances Are"...which by the way is Robert Downey Jr's 2nd best movie, trailing only "Back to School".

Totally agree about "Chances Are"...Cybill Shepherd was amazing in that as well. A little gem of a rom/com. Now I need to go back and see it again.

I just saw "lay the favorite" it was ok I guess, I had been reading a lot about sports betting so it was fun to see a bit of it

I want to see "Hard 8" but none of the streaming services I have offer it for free.
So Wizard, still no basic strategy for strip poker huh?

I actually thoroughly enjoyed hard 8. Like "The cooler" its story is based in and around the casino, but the plot is so much more than that. I also love the fact that PSH was in both Hard 8 and Owning Mahowney.

Mississippi Grind, by the way, I can't put my finger on whether I absolutely effing love it, or if its a little too slow. There's so much grit and "truth" in that movie. So much "gambler mantra" coupled with harsh realities. Faith, honesty, distrust, its all mixed into one giant pot. I'm not entirely sure I liked where the journey finished, but I absolutely loved where the journey went along the way, which is kind of ironic if you've watched the film.
