Just listening to Bob's interview on Gambling with an Edge tonight and there was one section that made me feel I had to speak up. During the section where they are talking about casinos asking players for money to be returned when they claim there was an error that caused the player to be overpaid, he stated that he's never heard of casinos doing the same for when a player is shorted any money.

I just want to state that I feel this is wrong, at least in my experience. There have been many instances where I personally have called down to tell the pit to give $X.XX back to the player due to an error. Just last week a player placed a double/double wager on Spanish 21 where the second double-down wager was for $600. In WA state, that is not permitted ($300 max wager allowed). The player lost and I called down and made sure they gave that player $300 back.

That is not to say that their might be surveillance departments in other casinos that do not adhere to the law as they are supposed to, but we are supposed to act more as an extension of the gaming commission, in the sense that we make sure all laws/rules/regs are being adhered to for all parties involved. Whenever the cage is over/short at the end of a shift and a review determines who was shorted, we take all steps possible to identify the player and if we don't have a contact for them, then the money is put aside and is given to them when they next visit.
