In one of the Wizard's Q&A's a reader asked whether he had considered having T-shirts made to be sold on the site. The response: Yes, but he decided against it for fear of being stuck with a big box of them.

I like the Web site logo that references the movie. If that were on a shirt, I'd buy one. And I'll bet a lot of others would too. Wearing it would identify you as an educated gambler (so rock it for VP rather than card counting).

Let's start a grass-roots movement. Reply to this post if you'd buy a Wizard T-shirt.

I would. As long as there were an adequate range of sizes, from small to xxxl, and for me, extra fat.

But I'd buy a t-shirt.

I buy lots of tshirts.

I even bought a Dark Skies T-shirt linked for those who dont get the reference.

yes Im a geek. and Proud of it.

I have a "Fire Joe Morgan" t-shirt and a Cheapo Vegas hat, so I would buy a Wiz shirt.

I don't think inventory is an issue when using a "print-on-demand" store like Cafe Press.

I would like to see the screen print mock up, but I am sure I would get a couple Tees. I like to wear a golf/polo shirt at the tables, so I would definitely buy one of them.
A little self promotion is fine by me too, so perhaps the logo would be something like:

Wizard of Vegas (logo above)
www.wizardofvegas.com (in small print under the logo.)

Absolutely.

1) It would have to be high quality, like the Crazy Shirts from Hawaii.
2) 3X, please. Sorry, I'm a big guy.
3) I, too, would go for a polo with a logo.

I'd agree on that. Go golf shirt or even a logoed Hawaiian Shirt with a nice, loose fit.

T-Shirts should not be worn in the casino. Or anywhere else if you are (any 2 of the 3):

1. Over 26 years old
2. Over 150 lbs as a guy
3. Going anywhere nicer than a flea market

Granted my rules, but I think we mostly agree casinos have lost something from years ago when people dressed nicer to go out.

The more I think about it, the more I'd think about suggesting embroidery rather than screen printing. And maybe even the option of a somewhat dressy shirt. Kinda like a company uniform shirt.

Agreed on that last part.

Here is an interesting take on that. If you can ever see some tape of a baseball game from before the early 1960s, notice how many of the men (and it is almost all men there) are wearing shirts and ties. Once I saw some wrestling form the 1950s and 99% were wearing shirts and ties. AT WRESTLING!

Not that I don't like freedom to wear a shirt other than white to work. While much has been gained, much has been lost.

Thanks for all the support everybody! I actually have about five "Wizard of Odds" polo shirts in my closet. Here is a picture of me wearing one of them.

I plan to start giving away stuff to my members soon, probably weighted by level of activity. Given the interest, I'll give away some of these shirts, probably starting sometime in March. About making more t-shirts or polo shirts and selling them, maybe. I think a more marketable product may be laminated strategy cards. If anyone is interested in partnering with me in that, where you do the sales and distribution, and I handle advertising and product, let me know.

Nice idea for the polos...and for us on the east coast, maybe fleeces would be in order. And now, given our weather report, maybe logoed snow shovels.

But I do have a question...how long do you think you'd be allowed to sit at a blackjack table wearing a WoO/WoV polo before you'd be asked to leave?

Wouldn't anything w/either logo instantly label you as being a counter?

Instantly? I doubt it. Yeah, they may be a bit leery, but unless you ARE counting, don't worry about it.

It kinda poses a question (which may wait until the poll feature of the new forum): How many people here count cards? I don't. Heck, when I'm at a BJ table, I often can't even add the three random cards in my hand!

Quite frankly, if you are counting, I suspect you'd do everything you can to stay under the radar - including NOT wearing a WOO/WOV logo.

What is this card counting that you speak of? There are no cards in a craps game, well, unless you are playing in CA. ;-)
I don't see myself being chased off the craps table because I am wearing a WoO/WoV logo. I'd be more worried that someone would ask me to supply the mean derivative of the standard polynomial on the Q factor of the craps game, and I would only be able to respond that the 7 has a 16.67% chance of showing up on any roll.
Please do not consider testing the applicants for the right to wear the logo!

I could probably play at any blackjack table (possibly exempting places I've been backed off) all day long, with or without that shirt, as long as they didn't think I was counting. I've never been asked to not play just as a precaution. The closest thing was the incident I wrote about in the Hilton review, where some guy in a suit came up to me out of nowhere and said "I'm watching you."

Thanks for this response and all your good work.

I see one problem with selling strategy cards: You've already given away the information for free, so anyone can print out a chart and tape it to a piece of cardboard (as I've done). Is the lamination enough to get someone to buy one? Maybe.

Now, here's an idea. A card with 4 or 5 strategy tables for common rule configurations. It could unfold like a map. If you could come up with a compact way to do it, I'd buy one of those. For example, my current card is for double deck, but I often get stuck playing shoes because I'm a pretty low roller. This is where a comprehensive card would come in handy.

Back to the discussion at hand: I'm pretty picky about things like polo shirts. They can be expensive too. T-shirts are fun to collect and risk-free. A box of 50 might only cost $200.

I'm not quite sure how you can do better than Don Schlesinger's bj cards. A bit pricey though, maybe you can undercut him, but how many people are really interested in playing better bj? The tourists obviously don't care, playing 6:5 ughhh!

As long as the t-shirt had a decent "weight" to it and came in XXL I'd certainly buy one.

About the strategy cards, I envision selling them for the whole gamut of strategy games. Agreed, Don Schlesinger's strategy cards are outstanding, but may be more information the recreational player needs to know. As noted, they are pricey too.

About shirts, I tend to think a good quality T-shirt would sell better. I hate cheap t-shirts too, like the kind they sell 4 for $10 at souvenir stores over here. Labels should not just indicate the size, but some measurement of the thickness, like weight per square inch.

Another project I'm thinking of us auctioning some mementos on eBay, and advertise the auctions on my site. If that does well, it may lift my confidence for selling strategy cards or any kind of shirt.

I like the strategy card idea. I think it would great if they were sold as a set, meant to be used together. Then you could cover several games, and perhaps have one card that is a comparison between games. (I.e. perhaps a table: 'Typical Bet', 'House edge', 'Standard Deviation', 'Ease of play', 'Typical rate of play') It could be a mini gambling guide in card form... I hope someone takes you up on your idea!

How about a large upside-down basic strategy card on a shirt so you could just look down at it without having to twist your shirt all around? Or maybe a checkered one with the different rules (number of decks, s17/h17)? Funny but a little tacky perhaps.
