Dude, he freaked. He almost fainted, he yelled, "OHMYGOD!!!" about 5 times in a row, he tried to stand up and fell back to his stool. One of the pit bosses got him a water, I pulled out my nitros just in case he started getting chest pains, it looked like he might have a heart attack. He high fived everyone in range, then sat back down and said "Oh my god," then he screamed it once more, "OHMYGOD!" and we all (about 10 people, being 3 pit people, 2 dealers + the one dealing, me, and 3 kibitzers, thereabouts) gave him a round of applause. When I had 4 to a straight flush (2-3-4-5, diamonds), maybe 6-7 years ago, I got J diamond. This was back before the 3 Card bet. But man, when that 5d came up my heart skipped a beat, for sure. | TIMSPEED Member since: Aug 11, 2010 Threads: 39 Posts: 560 | I've had a lot of "moments" at LiR..my best was when i actually made my BEST HAND EVER (and actually QUIT playing on that hand, LOL) I had a pair of 10's and a 2, so I of course tucked, and I was pleasantly happy...dealer flips over a 10 first, which made me very happy that I made three of a kind, and even more happy that I might make 4-oak...nope..but the dealer DID flip over a 2 for a Full-House! Pays 11:1 if I remember right, which gave me $55x3 They say casino's aren't built on winners...

Nothing worse than a downer or "cooler". I play a lot of LIR and have never even seen anyone get close to RF. I'm glad you felt privileged to have been there. And better still the guy gave you a little good luck that parlayed into more. Outstanding story brother. I'm gonna have to tell this story when I'm in Vegas in April. My wife, right after the game came out, hit a straight flush but it was not high enough to enter the "tournament" at the time. A few months later they changed the qualifying to all straight flushes and higher. Then they stopped the tournament all together. That was fun and exciting when she got her SF. I have had 6 chances for the royal after having the first 4 cards to the royal. Never got the RF, or even a flush! Only 1 time did I even get a pair! Maybe my 7th time will be the one. But what a rush when you have those first 4 to a RF! |

(The base game has about a -3% expectation, according to the Wiz's tables.) But I've doubled up a $500 buy in twice, betting $10 and playing the button and the 3 Card bet. I'm months ahead on the button, I've hit 4 full houses in the last 6 months. Now, I know that has nothing to do with odds and expectations. But it DOES have something to do with your mindset when you play LiR. And that is, relax. You aren't playing against anyone, other than the casino; you don't have to beat another hand. You can sit there and bet small, and dream about big hands. They usually put inexperienced dealers on LiR, so the game plays slow, you don't bleed chips too quickly. And you get the thrill of that moment right before you look at your cards... that moment that represents potential. That's the reason we play, for that moment, right before the cards turn, right before the dice settle or the wheels stop. NO KILL I |

After all was said and done he walked with over $40k, and other than a light smirk, he made no hint of emotion whatsoever. No clapping, jumping, high fiving, big cheese smiling, nothing. At first I though he was a newb and had no idea what he had just done, but from getting the hand, through the hour of review and proofing, and all the way until hitting the cage and walking with $40k+ in cash, nothing but a wry little smile. The first, ironically, was on LiR and in the first spot also only, the hand was in spades. He got $30,000 for the regular bet and another $20,000 for the $1 bonus bet. All while this was going on, I was buying in at the pai gow poker table right next to it for $265 and with all the commotion, the dealer gave me $365! And was approved by the pit boss too. The second one was in the poker room on a texas hold-em game where the dealer put a natural royal in clubs on the board. "Shut up Meg."

Of course, I didn't know it was a diamond at first, I merely saw the red queen and nearly fell on the floor. I think the progressive was around $250k. How much money did he get for the royal flush? Did he get $50,000? Or did he get $30? I think cash or check is the players choice there are a lot of people who feel unconfortable carry $50,000 in cash that would prefer a check. |
