Does anyone else see those Harrah's commercials for responsible gaming during the WSOP on ESPN and get the feeling the Harrah's CEO is trying really hard to suppress his urge to laugh?

What you may not know is that his real name is Gutboy Barrelhouse.

There are times when you shouldn't gamble--such as anytime you are in a Harrah's casino.

Yeah no doubt. I don't know if it's still like this but awhile back I was playing 6 deck BJ at Harrah's Vegas and got a Blackjack. They payed me 6:5. Not BJ switch, not Spanish 21, regular BJ. I then saw the "Blackjack pays 6:5" on the layout and got up and left immediately.

He is right about one thing: Their employees ARE trained to spot someone with a gambling problem who is in way over their head.

Trained to point out the nearest ATM machine.

clarkacal,
You must be new here.

6:5 is a hot topic on this board, every bit as much as it's a rash in the casinos. It seems like all, or at least most, casinos pay 6:5 at their low minimum tables.

As far as those commercials go, bust out in laughter? Actually, he looks to me like he's about to fall asleep!

Oh ok. Yeah I am relatively new. I don't play much BJ anymore and when I do it's usually at a $25 table or more so maybe I just haven't seen it.

I've not seen the commercials but there is no doubt in my mind that Harrah's executives believe in shearing sheep: Sheep, gamblers, employees, stockholders, partners, passersby, .... I doubt it makes any difference to them at all. You've perhaps heard the expression about counting your fingers after shaking hands with a thief. With a Harrah's executive, it would be not be a joke. Shake hands with a Harrah's executive and its check for your wrist watch, rings and fingers.
