The Wizard reviewed the Fremont. He pointed out that craps has a stingy 2X on craps. Because Boyd runs all three of their downtown hotels as a single operation, they try and herd their big craps players to Main Street where they offer 20X odds.
For those interested in finances, it is clear that Golden Nugget is the biggest money maker downtown. But #2, #3, and #4 are the three Boyd casinos, California, Main Street, and Fremont. That means Fremont makes significantly more money than other much larger casinos. They have a huge number of slot machines packed into the place. Mostly they make their money on the Hawaiian trade, filling 2/3 of their rooms with people on package deals from the islands. Hawaiians are the largest consumers of spam in the world.
There is not a lot of reason to go to the Fremont, since everything they have is also at Main Street, only it is better at Main Street. Better bars, buffets, odds, views and interior design. Also Main Street is 38 years younger.

In the review the Wizard stated
Quote:
Literature in the room didn't indicate there even was a pool. I didn't learn of one until I viewed the Fremont's web site after I returned home. As you can see from the web site picture, the pool is small and located on the top of the hotel.

I didn't think the Fremont had a pool, and so I went to the link where it says:

Quote:
Fremont guests have the convenience of using the California Hotel's sparkling rooftop pool

The picture appears to confirm it is the Cal's pool, with MSS to the right, World Market off in the distance, and the Vegas Club to the left. I just figured this was worth mentioning in case having a pool directly on the property was important to someone.

Thanks for the correction. I just fixed that part of the review.
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.
