This is great. I got my haircut here last trip. The barber is a guy named Ernesto Ortiz. There are no appointments. The barbershop is located right up the stairway by the stairs next to the craps table. It was crowded when I went in, and I didn't feel like waiting, so I went downstairs to gamble. I lost $150, so it was an expensive haircut. This happened twice; waiting, gambling, and losing. Finally, I got a seating. It was fast and efficient. He didn't talk, but I preferred that since I hate barber small talk. It was one of the better haircuts I've gotten. Paid him $12 flat for the cut, which was the price, and he seemed okay with that. I don't feel like a tip is warranted if it is a sole proprietorship -- feel free to disprove that hypothesis. I'll be back.

414 people have viewed this post without one reply. I'll reply, and I cut my own hair! When I was staying at the 'Tez, the ElCO, The Hell Cortez , (and I won't mention the reference to a women's cycle) this November, I strolled up the staircase to check out the Vintage Rooms. Housekeeping was not cleaning one at the time so I could not get a glimpse at the amenities. So I hear there's a Barber Shop up there and a Salon for the ladies. Seems like a strange place to have such establishments. Speaking of Vintage Rooms, I once stayed in a room on the fourth floor of the Golden Gate, back in '04. I've seen walk-In closets bigger than that room--and the bathroom was so small you had to go in sideways. Hey, I don't care. If the bed is comfortable, there are no cigarette stains on the edge of the sink, the remote works, the A/C doesn't howl, the carpet looks clean and relatively new--I'm happy. The room actually had a real key.

Yes, teddys hair has gotten quite long since he started this thread two plus years ago.

I have to say, I don't get it...can someone spell it out for me, please.

The Mayor (not Goodman, but the (old) cardcounter.com Mayor) used to refer to it (and he's not alone) as The El Kotex.

I didn't mention it, I alluded to it.

I learned that language on bj21.com, hardly original. Funny, "El Kotex" reminded me of El Burro. Anyone here ever meet him? Brilliant young AP. Died of a meth overdose several years back. Sad. Grosjean mentions him in The Book.

With no plans to return to Las Vegas in the coming years, I will miss my buddy Ernesto.

I always stop in his shop for a straight razor shave. 20 minutes of relaxation, no talking, for $15 bucks.

Wait...there's a barbershop at a hotel/casino in Vegas that doesn't charge $30 and up for just a cut?

Gold Coast has another; $20 for a man's cut but was booked up when we were there.

No, sorry. I'm leaving (no more Vegas trips). Ernesto is staying.

And yes, he's great.
