This is a comment on the review of the Orleans posted on this new website.

There is an error under "Gambling" in which Orleans is called Sunset Station. Also, the coffee shop is called the Courtyard Cafe, not Don Miguel's as reported. Don Miguel's is the Orleans' Mexican restaurant.

Orleans is often very busy and lively, with lots of yelling and a parade of fun patrons. The reviewer visited at a down time. However, what was said about the staff attitude in the casino proper is accurate. Non-casino staff is more helpful and friendly. I also like the "feel" of the casino much more than that of Rio, sky shows and thematic consistency notwithstanding.

As a low-rolling tourist, I find that Orleans meets my needs very well. Free or bargain rate rooms are readily available, rooms are much more pleasant than those of comparably-priced competitors we have tried, and easy Strip access matters a lot to me. I know where the NSUD video poker games are located, and don't care if the ones I don't play pay 20 cents on the dollar.

The article is fair and accurate. However, my mileage varies.

Thanks for catching the typos.

I was told by the Wizard that my experience of Orleans ambiance was not typical -- that it is usually more upbeat and fun. I was there for several days, and never experienced that. I will be staying there again in mid-November. If there's a change in atmosphere, I'll post about it.

Thank you for those corrections, which have been made. I also give the Orleans higher marks than E.J. did, but it is his review. Only mistakes of a factual nature do I correct.

Sometimes "ambiance" changes by time of day or day of the week.

As to use of a person's name, I frankly prefer that my name not be used. If the place caters to Asians, that might even be a policy for them since I'm told, but have not verified this in any way, that Asians are supposed to prefer this.

As for that "go-go" dancer who made a reference to another woman being a fellow inmate with her, it could have been anything such as DUI but in Vegas I would hazard a guess that the "go-go" dancer might have a sideline involving "come" rather than "go".

As for being thanked for tips, I would expect that but understand bored dealers often simply don't acknowledge tips.

"Off-white alcohol" ... perhaps in a low-rollers, locals casino the bartender simply knows the basics and while it might be a standard drink in many other casinos he may never have even heard of it.

As part of the resort fee you get to use the free WiFi at the coffee shop. If you want Wifi in your room it is something like an extra $12 per day on top of the resort fee. This is a prime example that resort fees are just an added fee that gives you nothing extra.

I've stayed at the Orleans the last three trips I've made. It's not the best, but the accommodation are cheap, the rooms are clean and comfortable, it's easy enough to hit the strip, and the gambling and beer is good.

I've always used the free wi-fi at the coffee shop, and not paid the resort fee on the last trip. To be honest, a big cup of coffee and 20 minutes checking my mail is enough internet access while on holiday.
