...Are we playing poker?

I think we definitely have enough interest for a poker game.

On my way to Vegas now. Been looking forward to this for a while.

Awesome! Always a good time, but hope it's also a profitable time for you too! See you this weekend =D.

I think there is definitely interest in both poker and craps, the two games most likely to permit a WoV group of more than 3 or 4 to play at the same table together. I have played both games with WoV groups -- craps quite a few times and 2-4 Limit hold'em just once.

As I related to one member, the difficulty I see in organizing a poker game will be in getting agreement on what kind of game people want. Some might find a limit game to be tame to the point of boring, while others might consider a no-limit game outside their comfort range. Consider this in contrast to a group playing craps, with some people playing $5 and others playing $50 or $100 as their base bet; in craps that is not a conflict at all at the same table.

Since I have very rarely played poker, I don't think I am the right one to try to organize a game and get agreement on what and where. I had tentatively suggested (maybe twice) that we play one game before dinner Saturday night and the other game after dinner. I have just decided that I'm the wrong organizer for poker.

While there are a "lot" of poker options, the "standard" poker player will want to play NL texas hold'em. I think among the group at dinner (or before) we could collectively decide what/where to play. Shouldn't be too difficult.

I suspect you are quite correct. The complication for a WoV gathering is that non-standard players, or even those (like me) who aren't really poker players at all, might join a limit game for the social aspects but wouldn't feel comfortable trying to play no-limit. I think that's why the Wizard set up a limit game at WoVCon I.

If no-limit is what the poker players want, we'll probably wind up with the group splitting for the gaming sessions.

1/2 no limit is probably less risky than the standard 2-4 limit game.

Just buy in for $50-$100.

Pick your spots. If someone is jamming pots preflop or something that's good for a short stack.

I doubt I would play limit it's like watching paint dry.

Also A NL game would provide entertainment watching guys like me and Romes get into a pissing match with big pots and marginal hands.

PS. I'm probably no attending anyway but I still think 1/2 NL is way better. NL shouldn't be feared to novice players.

Hopefully be able to make it for Saturday night at Main Street Station.

One of the trivia questions last year was wrong. Tyson lost to Buster Douglas in 1990, not 05.

Getting aboard a plane in a couple of hours, so this may be my last update on an attendees list -- not sure how well I would do it from a phone, but I'll try if there's a need.

Can I get a volunteer who is going on Friday to make a dinner reservation for Saturday. I'd say party of 20, just to be safe.
