hi WoV'ers

we have implemented new Anti spam feature that does not allow members with less than 20 posts to publish links.

This was introduced in order to fight the most recent spam we have been getting at the forum .

cheers

Yeah, I got temporarily snagged yesterday as you were working on it. Glad to see the result. Bravo!

But while that's a huge step in the right direction, an additional measure just popped into my head:

It seems like too many members either don't know how the flag function works, or don't bother because it takes too many people to flag something before it goes away. Therefore, a member with a minimum of X posts should have the flag function work immediately, for such new member's posts.

While I would love to hold the power (assuming I have achieved the requisite X number of posts) to immediately vaporize spambot droppings, I would think that this would give any one member too much power to eliminate any post he doesn't like.

Plus, I don't know about others, but I have been guilty of accidentally clicking the 'Flag' button when meaning to click 'Reply' or the 'permalink' button of the post right below it.

A lower threshold for the 'Flag' to work may be a good idea, but I would want to set it to something greater than one.

I know it's been discussed before, several times, but I am not sure when I should flag, and when I shouldn't. I got no problem flagging a first post from a new member with something that looks like a link to the 'latest weight loss craze'. But if I do, and others do the same, and the post goes away, does the 'new member' stay on the list of members as legit? Phrased another way, does flagging posts interfere with moderator's jobs of throwing out the trash?
A clarification from the administrators is something I would appreciate, especially since a new anti-spam function just went into place.

For the rest of you, flagging all my posts and having them disappear is NOT FUNNY anymore. Enough! ..;-)
That was a joke, as far as I know my posts haven't been flagged.......as far as I know.

Good point. Adding a confirmation pop-up will fix that.

A "points" system would be good, I think. You could have a range of posts, as an off-the-cuff example (not an actual proposal, just how one might make it work):
0-500 posts: 1 point
500-1000 post: 3 points
1000-5000 posts: 5 points
5000+ posts: 10 points

And a post would require > 15 points to be immediately deleted without mod interaction. Therefore 2 respected members of the community could make a post go away, but it would never happen by one errant click.

Of course all flags should still notify the moderators.

I'm pretty sure there already IS a point system in place, although I have no idea what the levels are.
