I've taken quite a beating for asking for donations and then turning around and selling the sites. There is some validity to the criticism. I will say in my defense that the decision to sell the sites wasn't made until early September and I immediately stopped accepting donations as soon as I knew this was a distinct possibility.

Nevertheless, I have decided to either return or give away to charity ALL donations made at any point.

I have just returned 14 donations totaling $650 made via Paypal in the last 60 days, the period for which Paypal allows this option. However, there are still $3,700 in donations made to that Paypal account before that date.

There may have been one or two donations made to my personal Paypal account, because Paypal was rejecting some donation attempts at first to my Wizard account. I checked the comments of all of them and none of them explicitly said it was for a direct donation. Some were for bets on I won the last two McNugget challenges. I will be inquiring about a couple that were from forum members where the reason wasn't stated in the comments.

Finally, some were sent my mail to my PO box. I estimate about $500 were received that way.

At this point I'm going to give anybody who made a donation that wasn't already refunded the opportunity to contact me for a refund.

I'll allow another week for that and then I will be donating all unclaimed donations to Three Square, which is a Las Vegas food bank.

I'd like to request that this thread stay on the topic of just donations. General Wizard bashing posts should be put in the Sale of wizard of odds/vegas websites thread.

Not to cause you more work, but I would purfur (Get it?) the $100 I donated went to this cat charity in Vegas on Flamingo.

http://www.allfurloveanimalsociety.org/

Call me hard, but I am not a huge fan of donations to humans compared to animals.

If this is too much to do, I will take my donation back and send it myself to them. No problem either way.

All of that said, I don't feel you owe me or anyone their money back and you have always been 100% honest. no one should doubt your intentions and the situation you were in at that time. It took a lot for you to ask for money and I am sure your pride was hurt.

Remember good things happen to good people and you earned everything you made from this sale. I hope you don't let the negatives bother you. And if the sites change, so be it. The new owners paid good money and it is their right to do as they please.

Not just "members" think it is an issue.

I applaud his solution to the problem.

I do hope that's a typo. FOOD bank, right?

Personally, I gotta believe that you putting out the tin cup was a very painful thing for you to do. Painful enough that you should be entitled to keep the money to help heal those wounds as well as the new wounds you have recently received because of it.

Or think of it another way: you've got a bank of hungry mouths at home to feed.

Or give it to Three Square. That's a downright nice way to, well, tell a few crybabies to STFU.

DJ, not sure why you're upset at people caring about their donations. Oh well.

Because they were donations. They were never intended to be retuned.

It wasn't like "lending" money to your broke brother, where you really don't expect to get it back. These "donations" were payment for the better gambling experience we had as a result of reading WoO and being a member here.

We paid what amount we thought was right for a product that we continue to use. Why ask for refunds?

Now Mike fell into a boatload of cash, and suddenly, everyone is counting his money, and sticking thier hands in his wallet. It's just wrong.

It's unfortunate that it was so recently that the tin cup was out, enabling people to connect the two events. I wonder if many people would have made the same connection if the sale took place many months or years later...

It makes me wonder. If Mike had won the Lion's Share instead of selling the sites, would people still ask for refunds?

Let me also say that I'll accept as an option that anybody may insist that I keep the money. For example, sometimes fans will buy me dinner or drinks as a show of thanks for my sites. Such offers I have happily accepted in the past. Neither will I insist that a donation be forwarded to charity if somebody wishes to consider their donation as a pure gift for the value received from my sites, regardless of my net worth.

Still, any donations where I don't get any direction what to do will be donated to charity.

If enough ends up going to them ( maybe with a matching donation from the new owners ) maybe WOO could sponsor a day as volunteers working for them..... earn a little PR for the site.... I see the site says they provide 1500 meals for with a $500 donation

$5000 = 15,000 meals

that would be something to be very thankful for around Thanksgiving

I agree with you Mosca. As soon as the Wizard posted "Nevertheless, I have decided to either return or give away to charity ALL donations made at any point. "
This is the Wizards decision regarding the donations!
the criticism from other members is clearly unwarranted due to the Wiz's statement.
Take me, I would much rather a food bank have my donation then the Wizard.

Of course B9 being the troll he is, just has to come out against that.

Of course not.
The wizard made a decision to refund or give to charity.
Regardless of a refund or going to charity, its the Wizard and members coming to agreement on certain moneys.

Its being trollish coming out against the agreement between The wizard and other members and criticizing members for taking up the wizards offer.
So trollish a member who has made great contributions to the site just got suspended due to the troll.

Funny how it is the folks who didn't donate money are making the biggest fuss about this. Not to forget the bitter folks who got permanently banned from here are mentally farting the loudest.

And Blizzard cancels Titan.

But there is some good news though. I saved tons of money on car insurance by switching to Geico!

I'm really tired of the troll accusations around here.
It's for the mods to decide, calling someone a troll
out of hand is like an ethnic slur on the internet.
Knock it off, that's why we have mods.

Call the anti-troll defamation league. ;>) I would rather have Trolls than whiners anyways.
I am a robot.

Please remember, the only one who can get you banned is you.

Perhaps. So how much trolling do some folks need to do before it gets them banned?

It's catching fish that makes a troll. Besides which, I've seen precious little trolling... plenty of pratting around, whining, moaning, arrogance, mock offence, position-taking, dick-waving and general douche-baggery, very little trolling. If someone is trolling, they are a newb at it.

I can't believe the number of people who DON'T want the Wizard to keep their donations. That just seems kinda tacky, IMHO. Hell, one member has even come up with ways to donate the Wizard's own money. Geez.

I resent that I am being made to feel ungrateful for donating $100 to a complete stranger just because he asked for it, and that I then accepted his unsolicited offer to return it. No good deed goes unpunished, I suppose. Fuck you.

If this is what MOSCA is suspended for, suspend me for the 14 days I am due. He is responding to someone (BT9) who should have been gone a long time ago. I am assuming this was from BBB, Misson, Face or one of the mods I respect. BT9 is a total asshole and adds nothing to the site. And deep down you know it.

And if I am wrong on why he was suspended, nevermind..carry on

And Babs..Yes I called it, but it doesn't always make it right

And MOSCA is one of the best members on here. Just look at his contributions.

Yea, it was me ASSHOLE. Mike offered to donate the money I gave to him back. I didn't expect it back, nor did I want it. BUT when he offered it to charity, I am more than willing to give it to a charity I like. You have a problem with that???

TACKY???I don't think so, nor does Mike. Ask him if you are not sure.

I gave the money to someone I RESPECT and will continue to respect.

He offered me the money back and I offered to give it to a LV charity I give too. How much do you give??

I hope you can beat me, but deserving charities deserve it. I have multiple nights per year at my restaurant for local charities, what do you donate?

And I can prove it. You?

I totally agree. I really look forward to MOSCA's posts.
Great report from Atlantis.
B9 is the only member on the entire site I have blocked.
I don't read his posts because they are troll posts.
It wouldn't surprise me if he is the most blocked person on the forum.
As Boz put it BT9 is a total asshole and adds nothing to the site. And deep down you know it.
Give me 14 days also
