Folks got PAID for articles/reviews????    During the preliminary draft stage, Mike had offered an official WoV shirt for my review of the Cosmopolitan and said he would deliver it at the Spring Fling. Then his unfortunate family issues arose, and we didn't get to see each other in May. So my review article turned out to be another no-charge contribution to improve the site. I thought it was a decent article, but nowhere near good enough to have helped with the selling price. It didn't even include any math analyses!

I am first and foremost a man of my word. That doesn't mean I don't forget anything, but I would be happy to pay you for whatever I promised for that review. I'm not sure I have any new WoO shirts left, but we'll work something out. I do appreciate you not hounding me for payment right after my dad died.

As I said in our PM exchange, I know that you are a man of your word, and I did not mean to suggest otherwise. I was just making a silly comment in response to Nareed's post about "copyrighted" posts/articles/reviews, etc. If there were still WoO shirts left, I would enjoy having one, but you do not "owe" me anything. I offered that review as a fun thing to prepare and a contribution to a site that I have enjoyed for more than four and a half years.

Well, it started with translations for the Spanish site. Let me tell you, money's not enough of an incentive to do translations. There's always at least one little, important line that has no exact translation, which results in either something unwieldy and slightly inaccurate or unwieldy and largely meaningless. And that's on top of everything else.

I echo GWAE's comment about your command of the language. Well done. For the record, I noticed a couple errors, but unlike the typical errors brought on by ignorance or laziness, your errors seemed to be due to cultural differences of a foreigner. That was confirmed by your 3:00AM comment a few days ago.

So welcome, and thanks for giving our friend enough pocket change that he can put the tin cup away. ;)

Regarding Buzard: Thanks for whipping him into shape. His sense of humor and sarcasm are so far out that often I don't know what the F he's talking about - much less knowing what's sarcasm and what's serious.

For the record, it DID seem like you were bitching.

On the flip side, I occasionally mention that I expect Mike to turn my post, Introduction to poker in a Casino Poker Room, into a genuine article. It's worthy of such, and Mike said he'd do it. Frankly, it's worthy of being a paid-for article, but Mike's done so much for me and Poker For Roulette, that I would refuse.

On the other hand, now that Mike is flush with cash... J/K. ;)

I don't exactly but it was not smoked ham. They also sold "Pork Shoulder" which was cheaper and more like Spam but the ham was "Zagbred" or something like that. Does that make any sense?

ummmm, that Zagbred sounds like Zagreb ( capital of Croatia )... perhaps it was the Croatian ham from Zagreb ;)

The property owner next to me is from the former Yugo republics as well. He will not sell me a property worth $70K on the books for $150K because he knows it is worth more to me for parking and future expansion. He also hates Jews and is not afraid to state it every way. He thinks all the Jews stayed home on 9-11-2001 because they were told something in advance and believes it. I don't. I think evil is everywhere and just looking for a chance.

http://www.nowtheendbegins.com/pages/israel/were-4000-jews-told-to-stay-home-on-911.htm

He also might not be Alone based on the actions others from Belgrade at a recent soccer game

http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/09/19/4163564/uefa-looks-into-anti-semitic-banner.html

None of this has anything to do with the new owners of this site, but shows hatred and racism is everywhere and not just in the NFL as liberals, womens groups and the Huffington Post would lead anyone to believe.

But as for me, I like to believe everyone is decent....until given a chance to make a dollar. Then all common decency is checked at the door and we justify everything we do.

Interesting u mention that article. I was at that football ( soccer ) game last Thursday. Im a big Partizan fan.

And yes I saw that banner, and I got really pissed off , as most of the fans. The thing is you will always find few idiots who would do this kind of sh*t. Freaken hooligans if u ask me.

They say the banner itself was not meant to be racist and it was in reference to the old British TV show called Only fools and Horses and Yid army on the other side ( as Tottenham fans call themselves ) .

What ever it was , whether it was racist indeed which im inclined to believe, or just a poor attempt to provoke the visitors fans, those hooligans sure did wrong by our club.

P.S.

One nice detail from the match :)

I am of the opinion that if a post has minimal substance and originality, copyright protection is vested, and it can be registered. That natural anticipatory consequences of posting on a forum are mainly in line with what you mention; you would expect that others see it, you expect to be quoted, and these natural consequences of posting are not actionable. But if you take my substantial, original quote and it is the basis for a chart topping song you write, I am going to have a strong case. Therefore, your 'public property' statement is inaccurate, although it might be practical enough for the laymen and for 99.99% of all posts. Do you disagree?

you could be right if you refer to posting your own copyrighted material. Then yes you would own it i think.. but then again i am not an expert in intellectual property ( even tho i went to law school which i quit, so i guess it figures lol ).

Usually all sites/forums have detailed t&Cs written that you are obligated to accept upon registration. And Im sure the part referring to the forum posts is one of the points.

I also think it is messed up that Wiz asked for donations to run something he sold for a couple mil a mere one month later. Funny how you might hear phrases like "run this out generosity' or 'in dire straits' just before the massive profits in any situation similar to this. Don't we all wish we all would fall on similarly rough times? But I wasn't here for that, nor would I ever have considered donating, so whatever to that.

Does this give a freepass for GR8 to make a comeback??

Do think the very recently solictored for donations should be refunded.

"Long time lurker." LOL.

"Always enjoyed this site." Another LOL. Then explain your constant attacks on WoV and Mike over at my shrine at that dead site there Egalite the Parasite!

Larry's not only following this board, he and a couple of other guys are posting about it. There's got to be 10 threads on GG that discuss WOV. Not everyone who is shown the door here goes away quietly. Not everyone will be silenced.

Whatever became of Ken? Is he still around? For those unfamiliar with him, he posted here under mrjjj. He was a colorful, witty character who enjoyed roulette and had no use for "math boys" as he called them.

Gotta agree. There are more than a few of us who feel a sense of community and support that extends to contributing when Mike asked. Quite a few of those people offered to help in prior discussions of things going Tango Uniform for him, which he refused. Why anybody is throwing around their participation or non-participation, or passing judgment on those who made a choice different than they did, I can't fathom, but it ain't "community".

You could consider that those, like I, who used the resources for free, felt it was a no-brainer to provide some kind of support. You could consider that this community knew better than anyone the value of Mike's work and wanted to keep it available and unaffected by outside influences. You could consider that many of the folks on here are themselves personal friends of Mike. But why it's even necessary to continue to bring up on the forum, I don't know. One of those things, maybe, that says more about the poster than Mike.

If you donated and want the money back, a PM to Mike will suffice; he already offered days ago. If you didn't donate, or did and don't want the money back, neither condition needs public verification. All bringing it up from any position at this point does is make Mike feel worse.

It is not about Mike, WoV and the donations if one reads between the lines. It is about their permanent WoV banishment and using a dead un-moderated site to post their grievances. Their bans were direct hits to their bitter fragile egos. Attacking Mike, the donations and the sale of this site are ways for them to achieve some empty moral victory since they enjoy playing the victim in this case. Don't know much of LarryS and his history at WoV but Johno/Carlo/Egalite, LOL. His obsessions and anger issues are beyond entertaining. It goes on and on never stops and mutates to the extremes with the trolling and stalking. Like his daily/weekly baccarat drawdowns that is if he even shows up to a casino like he states.

mrjjj/Ken, LarryS, Egalite/Johno/Carlo etc... it is always the GG folks.

I don't understand the ire about the donations... people were asked to make a donation if they felt like in return for the years of service. I paid for the value I had gotten from the sites. I didn't consider the future, and no promises were made about the future. If the Wizard has found a way to fund his work going forward, fair play to him.

No-one would go to a plumber who was charging $110 to fix you sink, which you paid, then ask him for the cash back as he won the lottery two weekends later.

Nor would you ask for your $5 bill back from Red Cross on Tuesday if they announce a $5 million donation from Bill Gates on Sunday.

The fact The Wizard has offered to pay back anyone who wants is beyond classy. I think anyone who thinks the forums are a large part of the value of the sale needs a reality check.

Congratulations on the sale! You have earned every penny.

As far as contributions go, hell, I had some extra so I sent it. When I discovered the Odds site my gambling knowledge improved considerably. As well as my winnings. And my enjoyment of gambling increased dramatically. I have gotten much more from the sites than I could ever repay.

I also don't quite understand the paranoia about new people having access to what little information this forum has about me. I'll freely share with anybody that info! Between Facebook and Gmail there's plenty of information out there about me.

That's the stuff. I loved how perfectly they folded the aluminum, where it expanded into a huge bubble, the corn punching it bigger and bigger. Great product. Awful corn, but who cared when I was 6? It was a babysitter special treat for her to make it.

Well, I think they improved the quality and methodology over the years. It's probably pretty good now. I'm talking mid-1960s; it was worth your life not to start a fire using it back then. And it always had this...charred...flavor to it. Likely operator error; imagine you're 14, trying to shake a pan just right over a gas flame for 5 or so minutes solid, with 4 kids ages 4-7 hollering at your feet because it's so exciting to watch the top blow up. :)

Very Calvin and Hobbes x4 around our house. And the babysitter very much like his nemesis. But we loved her anyway.

" Regarding Buzard: Thanks for whipping him into shape. His sense of humor and sarcasm are so far out that often I don't know what the F he's talking about - much less knowing what's sarcasm and what's serious. "

Gee, DJ, I had no idea you had such a low opinion of me. I can only imagine that since Zuga has not yet been Americanized, that he
might think I am a trouble maker. Let me set the record straight. ZUGA'S HOUSE ZUGA'S RULES.

I like the looks of that ZUGA'S HOUSE ZUGA'S RULES. I should start a thread with that title and properly introduce myself.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, DJ

It's NOT the first time I've mentioned this, although it HAS been a while...

Your response makes me think you're insulted by my comment, but I can't really tell.

Whatever. If you were insulted, sorry. I didn't mean it that way.

We always use it to make popcorn on a camp fire.

I've tried that. I don't know how long to set the campfire for, and it has no "popcorn" button handy.

I don't understand the ire about the donations... people were asked to make a donation if they felt like in return for the years of service. I paid for the value I had gotten from the sites.

The fact The Wizard has offered to pay back anyone who wants is beyond classy.

Absolutely. I'll see Axel's +1 and raise +1 !

It seems the Wizard is going to be around for at least 3 more years. Everything might remain the same but with a few more ad's and an online casino thread.

The commercials were the best. I remember getting it at the grocery store on a Friday night and then coming home, mom making it and watching the Brady Bunch. Simpler time and place!

And the Partridge Family right after BB.

Buzz, do you think there is any chance that the money Zuga is paying the Wiz with, was money that used to be Mikes before Zuga removed it out of Mikes account in Cypress?

Like an offer he can't refuse sort of thing.

If you haven't heard a rumor by noon, start one. I knew two guys who made a nice living in the 70's & 80's, hustling penny stocks.
Ride commuter trains, elevators in high rise office buildings, and being overheard in whispered conversations in high priced restaurants.

As Chief Shop Steward, me and a buddy once a week would ride 13 stories up and 13 down discussing layoffs, or reorganizations at At&T, and then wait too see how long before somebody let us on the rumor. LOL

People with money are statistically happier. People who are happy live longer.

Then there's the better heath care stuff.
