I live near MGM National Harbor in Maryland and only play live poker there.

I'm Caesars Diamond. Got my MLife Gold via the Borgata matching trick last year. (Mgm does not directly match Caesars Diamond.)
I earned $40 at Borgata so far. (Need $1000 to be Black Card, which is equivalent to Diamond/Gold.)

Now that Borgata will completely switchover to MLife in June, the MGM brand will have the best VP in the area with MultiStrike (9/6 JoB) = 99.54 + .25 = 99.79% return.

For all intents and purposes, I basically have near 0 points for MLife.
So to make Platinum, it'll be $200k/1.2 (because Gold gets +20% tier multiplier) = $167k coin-in.

I was wondering if it's worth getting MLife Platinum?
Or stay a flea with my free Mlife Gold (which expires in Sept)?

EL = (160,000)*(-.0021) = -336

This seems more/less like DiaD... with about -$336 EV +/- what I'm assuming is going to be about $2500 for 2SD (if I recall correctly). What are all the perks for MLife Platinum? What FP could you expect to get back? I know Total Rewards did away with their Return Rewards and pumped up their mailers a bit more, is that similar with MLife?

Just looking at the MLife tier benefits page, doesn't look like a "ton" of value, but that depends on what you find valulable. With TR the DiaD pays for itself multiple times over the negative EV, in my opinion (mailers after, $100 diamond dinner this and next year, diamond lounges, no lines/etc).

edit: I'd call their promotions and see if they have any point multiplier days/promotions coming up as well...

So to make Platinum, it'll be $200k * 80% (because Gold gets +20% tier multiplier) = $160k coin-in.

I don't play at MLife, but that doesn't seem right. It's probably $200k/1.2 $200k*0.80 would mean a 25% bonus, not 20%.

ahh.. 200k/1.2 = 167k
167k + 20% bonus = 200k

thx.

As far as the bonuses, I'm not sure how MLife does it, but for Caesars they typically clock your points on a "gaming day" then at the end of the day give you the 10%, 20%, or 30% bonus on what you've earned, before other promotions.

Example: You go on a day where if you show up you get 500 tier credits as a promotion... While there you earn 500 tier credits. You have a card that gets you a 30% bonus on your tier credits... What are your total tier credits for the day?

1) Base = 500
2) Bonus = 150
3) Promotion = 500

TOTAL = 1,150 tier credits.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

Unless something has changed Platinum is mostly useless. Diamond at CET gets you resort fees waived, lounge access, free show tickets, $100 dinner. I don't think Platinum MLife gets you any of this or anything comparable. Plus, MGM are a bunch of asshats.

The 20% bonus for gold (30% for platinum) is for comps and points earned on slots and VP. You don't earn extra tier credits toward gaining higher status.

Is it worth it? Dunno about MGM NH, but for here at MGM Detroit it's a big NO!

I don't think Platinum is worth it unless you take advantage of some serious cruise offers.

"Platinum cruise benefit: (1) 3, 4 or 5-Night Bahamas or Caribbean cruise in an Oceanview Stateroom per year OR (1) $375 or $750 Cruise Fare Credit towards a new booking on any Royal Caribbean International cruise per year. Length of complimentary cruise and amount of Cruise Credit is based on guests recent M life
play."http://www.royalcaribbean.com/contentWithGallery.do?pagename=mgm_partnership

There is no real automatic perks in Vegas either other than the standard taxi line cut and occasional VIP check in room.

I did forget about the freeplay and express comp multiplier.

so I found out that for Vegas, you get 10tier credits per point earned.
so 20% bonus for points should give you 20% more tier credits.

note: coin-in per point differs depending whether it's slots ($3 coin-in per point) or vp ($10 coin-in)

mgm Detroit is just 1 tc per point earned.
yeah.. that's awful

saw the 2018 benefits for Platinum.
the only one that was of any value to me was free cruise on either Royal or Celebrity.

but the only place worth playing at for MGM is vegas.
all the other mgm locations (ie: MGM national harbor in MD) give you horrible coin-in per tier point.

since Caesars killed their Diamond Aspirations tiers, I have no incentive to play over 25k points. (get into the Diamond lounges for free)

so if im in Vegas this year, im going to be playing at a MGM property to make platimum.
im currently Gold at 0 points thanks to Caesars Diamond matching.
so +20% tier points.

hm.. do I really want to do that much coin-in (even @ +20%) just for a free cruise?
Platinum= 100k points.
vs just paying for the cruise outright? ie: Caesars gives Diamond's a 20% discount on NCL cruises

My experience with mLife Platinum at the borg since they fully migrated to mLife is that they don't seem to give a shit. Doesn't really do anything special. Could just as well be carrying a Chuck E Cheese membership card or something. I dunno if the platinum would let you line-cut at their nightclub, that might be worth it for some.

In Vegas I had a different experience, flashing the platinum generally seemed to result in getting more of the VIP treatment. More of an intangible thing though. Just stuff like playing video poker at the bar I would get more attentive service. When I would play with the gold card I felt like I was fighting for attention. Roll up and pull out the platinum card and the experience was night and day.

In terms of raw benefits cruises don't really mean anything to me as its not something I'd really be interested in doing, but the extra discount in the shops is nice since I tend to buy a lot of cold drinks in them and the extra % off on the exorbitant price of cigarettes if I forget to pack enough adds up. That's probably the only specific tangible benefit I could "feel".

Personally I prefer the experience at the MGM properties, even considering how indifferent they are at the Borg, compared to Total Rewards/Caesars properties - mainly because they check room keys 24/7 to allow access in the hotel towers - but I don't know that I would go out of my way specifically to "chase" platinum.

Your offers are going to be based on your actual recent play/coin-in anyway.

Just want to point out in Vegas you can earn a lot of tier credits without coin-in, simply by eating at a restaurant and having them put credits on your card. The ratios in Vegas are way more favorable than the borg etc. It can add up fast and I quickly figured out I was better off paying cash for dinner but handing them my card and getting the tier credits as opposed to burning express comps on it. You might be able to grab platinum with less coin-in/actual cash out of pocket.

Mlife doesn’t really spell out the benefits of each tier. I guess once you get there, they start sending you stuff but I kind of like knowing what benefits I can get ahead of time. Priority access to Vegas nightclubs is not in the least bit important to me. I still don’t know what I can actually use my points for. They have sent me emails for a $99 trip to Beau Rivage which I am trying to take them up on.

I got a free upgrade to gold. I will probably earn enough to keep that but don’t know what platinum gives me. Comps are nice but at National Harbor they are wasted. It’s a “luxury destination resort” but only has one Asian restaurant. $27 for a beef fried rice. $13 for a chicken burrito in the food court. I always make sure to eat before hand. Hey if people are paying that while enjoying their 6:5 blackjack, more power to them.

Marquee rewards gives a lot for executive producer, which is only $125k coin in in 6 months. They have more locations too.

I will get to Platinum this year with less than 31,000 in gambling points the rest of the year:

--Points appearing after last trip = 34,626
--Points for 2019 Trip A (Based on 25 points per dollar in MLife spend) = 110,000
--Points for 2019 Trip B (same as above) = 25,000

**Those trip numbers are without meals of any kind--just hotel, spa, and ticket costs for those trips so far

So, that is 169,626 points before gambling or spending another dollar...both of which will happen at some level! I am fairly certain I will get the 30,374 points by the second trip. What I don't really expect is any better offers based on ADT. It is possible that my ADT could end up lower, since one nice winning session (word used loosely because "session" definition has been argues extensively here) last year raised my average bet for the year. Since it was one of my two best sessions ever, I don't expect it to happen every time!

I anticipate being Platinum the last part of the MLife year (but there is no trip planned during that part of the year) and the following MLife year. After that, I see myself being back at Gold or Pearl. I am retired military, so Pearl is a lock... I will take advantage of Platinum as much as I can during my short stay there!

Supercharged hits it pretty well on the head - Platinum in Vegas does seem to get better attention from staff. I've been squeezed into a full craps table by flashing my card, and the line cutting and VIP check in are nice.

Other than that - MGM offers are INCREDIBLY play dependent. I play good video poker and table games at medium green chip levels - so my offers tend to suck.

BUT - I'm Platinum another year because I got an amazing retention offer. So I'll see you in the VIP line ;)

If you're level of spending and playing is high enough that you earn a higher tier status, the rewards are a nice bonus. However, it's not worth it to play just to try to get to a higher status, as your losses will likely exceed how much you could save from discounts the higher tier provides. I rarely visit the strip any more and just went down to Gold tier status.

Yes, and 25 tier credits for every dollar spent not gambling. As supercharged and RonC posted, tier credits can be racked up more quickly by spending money on hotel rooms, restaurants and shows instead of gambling. (3.33 TC per $ for slots and 1 TC per $ for VP.)

M life Rewards Tier Benefits
If I booked a comp room offer, the resort fee was waived for being Platinum; otherwise, resort fee is charged if I book on my own.
One time when checking in, I was given a printout good for two free tickets at my choice of specified attractions such as the roller coaster at NYNY or Secret Garden at Mirage.

Regarding what to use points for, "Points give you more of what you like best, FREEPLAY for your slot play. Redeem points when and where you want from your favorite slot games without waiting in line."

I think it was after my second visit to Las Vegas (when I decided to play BJ in the MGM Grand high limit room) that I started receiving offers for Beau Rivage with a chartered plane from Atlanta to Biloxi. This was several years ago, I can't remember if there was a nominal fee or if the whole thing was complimentary. I have no idea how many tier credits I had earned in Vegas because I was new to gambling and wasn't looking at players club benefits. However, I am pretty sure that I wasn't offered an upgraded card from the blue Sapphire. I did enjoy the trip to Biloxi!

Perhaps is was similar to the email I received on September 13:
Quote: M life Rewards

M life Rewards Tier Credits will expire on September 30, but there's still time to take advantage of your M life Rewards membership to earn great rewards and benefits!

Your current Tier Credit balance is [x].

To remain Platinum next year, you will need to earn [x] Tier Credits.

Book your best offer and receive 50,000 Bonus Tier Credits when you book by September 24 and stay by September 28 in Las Vegas.

I booked the cheapest room at Excalibur, did a little gambling with a friend, and saw later that I had received 100,000 bonus tier credits. I just missed earning Platinum.
