Last night I was dealt JT2 of clubs with an off suit Q along with a fifth card I cannot remember. So, I looked at my strategy card I made with Video Poker for Winners and it says JT is a better hold that QJ or a JT2. So I keep the JT. And get this....

So, after I contact Simon23 and tell him my good fortune he says I kept the 4th worst hold. Oops, I forgot about QJT off suit. It is clearly a higher hold on my strategy card and it was definitely a mistake that would have cost me on most days. However I tell him that JT is the second best hold not the fourth best. He tells me according to the Wizard's Video Poker APP for the IPhone that QJT off suit is the highest hold followed QJ off suit and JT2 suited with JT bringing up the rear.

The order of holds on VPFW program goes QJT off suit, JT suited, QJ off suit, followed by JT2 suited.

So, which is correct?

I think Simon is correct on this one. Are you sure your strategy card is for 9/7 Double Bonus?

A couple of weeks ago on 9/6 JoB, I was dealt QJ8 of spades and two off cards. Went to hold the QJ8 but the 8 didn't hold. Proceeded to draw the 3 remaining Q's. Sometimes we get "lucky" on mistakes.

There could be an exception to rule, i.e. AKT4diamonds Jhearts in 9/6 JoB. BS says 3 to a royal. Optimal is 4 flush due to penalty cards.

The 3rd club is enough of a penalty to the JTc to drive it below QJo. In general though, QJTo is better than QJo or JTs.

The wizard's strategy at https://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/strategy/double-bonus/10-7/ appears to be wrong.

Unless I'm reading it wrong it appears JT suited is higher than QJT off suit in this strategy. So, according to that I made no mistake? Now I'm even more confused. Is the EV so close that it doesn't matter?

Look at the picture I took using the hand analyzer.

It seems that anything with a strategy generator puts the J 10 ss above the Q J off. Obviously, they don't factor in the penalty cards for that hand.

Congrats, that's really lucky getting a RF while making that "mistake". Were you thinking positive while playing? I hear that's all it takes.

Be extra vigilant and Look both ways while crossing the street next time.

I was busy when I posted that, so didn't get to write much. But mostly pointing out it was 10/7, not 9/7, so cmlotito or someone else wouldn't accidentially think it's a strategy for their game or something like that. But yes I agree, TJQo is the proper hold in that case.

My overriding thought was "Where the F**k have all the quads gone?" Still haven't gotten a quad in over 1500 hands (rough estimate). I'm due......right? :)

Yep, if you are playing 9/6. Oddly enough, it actually takes 424 hands on bonus poker deluxe. I have to think its because of the inside straight draws you make on that game. Double the 4 of a kind (I have had the pleasure of playing a few promotions that have done that) and you get it down to 399 hands with a mouth watering 118% advantage.

Yes you would, at least if you're typical.

Just because they are winning, or playing a winning game, doesn't stop video poker players from complaining! Complaining seems to be an occupational hazard.

If you had a 104% game with a 0.1% slot club --- and the casino cancelled a double point promotion that had been advertised --- players would yell to high heavens and insist the casino was run by greedy bastards.

Excluding promotions, progressives and programming mistakes, have you ever seen a VP machine manufactured that was over 103.5%?

Definitely not. It's illegal in Nevada and probably most other states. I've never heard of a prosecution though. It's likely not worth the fight to the casino unless a lot of money is on the line. But bad PR can be costly, look at United.

I agree, I was just curious as to why you chose that. Was not sure if it was just something you chose or there was a specific game with a 104% return. Excluding the exceptions I mentioned, Draw till you win and All-American were the highest I have encountered.

I see Drich said there may have been a higher percentage on Willams. I was aware of their being a glitch on the Willams, but I was not aware of a 105% paytable, certainly not on the few I encountered.

I don't think "definitely" is the proper word here. From what I've read, the regulations are rather vague.
