For your consideration:
Jeff Voyles - a former minor Bill Zender type character or personality/wish-to-be gaming "major player," - is re-entering the gaming industry.

Jeff used to run the now-long-since-defunct Gaming Network distributorship, and is re-emerging back into gaming with a couple of sites that caught me eye. He seeks to return to this business.

I know him from WAY back when....he now put up some sharp pin stripe looking flashy sites seeking to make a return, offering seminars and AP classes. In what capacity, I am not certain he can return, though he may indeed. I can neither over-estimate him nor under-estimate him.

He wants to return and initially be an AP Teacher, he was a pit boss and ex-table games manager, and ran a game distribution company like Rob Saucier, but failed, and as many installs...........................................................

see: On Jeff Voyles

and

On his site and what he's about.

What's Jeff's deal, odds, and offering to the industry, ...now, people.

I do not know what to make.

Your input on seeing such a thing.....

Sounds like it's going to be an overpriced counting class. What's that old expression "Those that can, do,those that can't teach.

*sigh*

That's my input. The potential revenue from teaching seminars is not very scalable. Neither is the revenue from counting cards, for that matter, especially when you consider the far more lucrative AP opportunities.

Did he just admit that while he was running GN, he was also APing at his clients? Was he beating his own games? Now there's a real scam -- start a table games company with games you know are beatable, then go beat them yourself before Eliot publishes the analysis. That'd be truly sneaky.

Hard to tell. My gut reaction is he defected from the dark side completely.

If true (and I am not sure that is what he wrote), I would classify that as more than just "sneaky".

On most tribal properties, the developer/distributor is rarely allowed to play their own games, oftentimes not even allowed to play other table games...only slots/poker. But commercial operators are normally not as strict on this type of rule, maybe they should be.

I'm fairly certain Jeff didn't play one versus the other; back when GN was running, he was always in the office, acquiring games, and getting investment.
If he did AP, he wouldn't touch his own distributed products.

Is this one of those deals like house flipping? You go to a free seminar and they give you small bits of info then they ask you to pay for 1 on 1 sessions for big money.

Looks like the next event is in st louis. Maybe tring will go and give us a trip report.

That's what I was thinking. I'll never understand why if people are as good as they claim why they don't just go do it themselves.

It kind of rubs me the wrong way when people charge money for blackjack lessons. Not that it shouldn't ever happen, but there's a TON and TON and TON and TON of FREE information out there that, shall we say, covers the player from "A to Z". I've never charged one penny for blackjack questions/teaching and have probably tought roughly a couple dozen people at this point all starting from around zero knowledge of the game. Even IF I charged each person $100 or something I'd have made what, a couple grand in the course of a year or two? There's no money to be made in doing it either, unless he's really just scouting for fresh faced talent for a team...

I would think it EXHAUSTING to hold seminars and repeat the same stuff over and over for pretty much little or no return. I mean, I'm glad he's switched from the dark side, and if he's not looking to make big bucks just wants to educate players then more power to him! If it was convenient/cheap/free I'd sign up just to check it/him out.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.
