At one point the Giants were 100:1 to win the SuperBowl according to http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/New-York-Giants-now-least-favorite-team-in-Las-Vegas-011712. So say you had put $100 on them at that time. How could you hedge your bet right now to get maximum value out of it? I'm thinking risking almost $5000 on a sports bet might be out of some people's league.

Also, if certain sports books have written a lot of 100:1 Giants win the SuperBowl bets, wouldn't that sports book be well off offering a better for the Pats to help hedge themselves?

Rarely, if ever do the books lose money on future bets. Even with some 100-1 tickets, the overall house advantage is over 30% on futures. So you have to figure there were a lot of losers out there. Dont forget that there are so many small $5 tickets on the huge odds and the heavy favorites get the larger money.

Had those odds been to "Play in the SuperBowl" or "to reach the SuperBowl", I would have jumped on it for a Lincoln myself... but its "to win".
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

I think to answer the question... You have lo lay around 3 -2 to bet on the Pats to win.... So, if you want a hedge which guarantees you a win of 2k.... bet 3k to win 2k on the Pats.... if the giants win you get your 5000 but lose 3000, if the Pats win you win 2000 on that new bet but your initial 100 ticket is worthless. There is someone here on the forum who has been promoting a site where you could just sell your ticket on the open market... You could probably get $1800 I would guess...

If I had 10,000 coming to me if the Giants won, I'd probably make sure that I at least profit $2000 by doing a Patriots hedge. I'll still root heavy for the Giants, but I won't be as devastated if they lose.
