I was wondering if there is an average pot size in TH-FL rings. I will limit my request to the standards of 10, 9, or 8 ring figuring 1 unit SB/2 unit BB/4 unit turn.
I can't seem to find anything on this, though I often hear that at 10 seats, after pocket only 6 remain, and after flop 4 remain.

Thanks in advance for links/help.

TH FL = Texas Hold'em Fixed Limit wagering (2x, 3x, 4x raises in-turn)
Ring = slang for a table game, 8-ring means 8 Contestants per table... cash ring means non-tournament, tournaments are usually 9-ring.
SB/BB/Turn = the three wagering limits usually posted at the table. 1/2 Usually refers to the Small Blind/Big Blind. Usually the Turn is 2x the Big Blind, but some Casinos and tournaments do not enforce this.
After-Pocket: slang for the first round of wagering based upon the two hole-cards (pocket) dealt. When the first round of wagering is finished most writers agree that six contestants remain on average of the 10 initial Contestants. Following that, after the wagering is done when the Flop of three cards occurs, usually 4 of 10 remain.

My question asks whether this is valid, and if there is a "rule of thumb" or actual known value. I might presume a pot of 30 units based upon what I have seen written... just wondering if this is close enough.

The quickest way would just be to quickly look at average pot size from a number of online tables. Now finding one that hasn't been shut down is the challenge..

Online limit hold'em pots used to average between 6-15 times the BB, back when I played a lot a few years ago. I'd gladly sit down at any table that had avg pot size around 10x or better. If you want one number, I'd say 10 times BB. Remember this includes chops and small action flops, as well as the monster pots

I don't have any info on avg # of people remaining after each street, but that was just a roundabout way to get to the 10x number, right?

The "rake" (the amount the casino collects from each pot) will also affect the size of the pot. Many pots will lose all but a dollar or two to the rake if everyone checks. This will have a stronger effect on limit games since the size of the bets is fixed.

When I played a few TH FL tournies on-line (early 2000's) it seemed that the pots on-line were larger than the Casino pots I was used to. I tend to agree that 30 units B&M is a good figure, but on-line closer to maybe 36, and it does depend on entry price. The rake would diminish the pot 1-2 units depending on house rule/Law.

Thanks
