Question: Once your bet travels to a box number, I know you have to satisfy the minimum bet for the table and that you can't exceed the maximum "times odds" FREX 3-4-5, but are there any other requirements? For example on a five dollar table could I bet $20 on Don't Come and when a 6 is rolled, take $6 odds on the $20 that traveled to the Don't 6?

What is the table minimum? More and more casinos are requiring that DC odds bets have to be paid off at no less than the table minimum.

In my example the table minimum is $5. Thanks.

The payoff (for a lay) has to be at least the table minimum, at most the table maximum. Table maximums are a little tricky, at least for craps, since each bet has a different max. On a 1K maximum table, the 6/8 hardways may be limited to $100. The place 6/8 may be $1200, while the 4/5/9/10 limited to $1000. The odds bet (on PL) might be limited to pay off a maximum of $1k, or allow a $1k bet to pay $1200/$1500/$2000 respectively. For the DP odds, the max is likely limited to win $1k (lay $1200, $1500, or $2000 respectively). Then again, limits might be even higher. On a $1k max table, they may allow you to make up to a $2k or $5k wager.

But on a $5 min table, you could bet $20 DP/DC, then lay $6 on 6/8, $10 on 4/10 (all to pay $5), or $9 on 5/9 (to pay $6).

Thanks. Also curious - say I have the $20 DP/DC and lay $15 on 6/8. I suppose it would pay $12 (i.e. two times 5 plus something less than 3)?

The lay on 6/8 pays 5 to 6. For every $6, it pays $5. Or you can divide you lay bet by 1.2 (or multiply by 0.83333), or multiply by 5 then divide by 6. Laying $12 pays $10. Laying $3 should pay $2.50, but since most games don't have $0.25 or $0.50 chips, they'd short it to $2 instead of $2.50. Although sometimes they just won't let you do it (or tell you not to).

no, on a 6/8 you have to lay in increments of 6.....6 wins 5, 12 wins 10, 18 wins15 etc.
also, every house has their own rules, my joint you can lay anything you want on any min game as long as you win at least 5 bucks.

You mean at your joint, I could lay $15 on 6/8 or are you referring to the maximums that RS mentioned?

Some places will even let you lay $2 on a 4/10 to win only $1 or lay $3 on a 5/9 to win only $2.

And then charge you $1 vig on the lay bet payout?

I don't think there is vig on an odds bet for DP/DCs.

Yes, this thread was specifically about minimum lay amounts for odds on DP/DC so that is what I was talking about.

Sorry, my misunderstanding. I just saw the "lay $2 on a 4/10 to win only $1" and took it as being a reference to a very small "lay" bet. And no, I agree that there is no vig on an odds bet; I just would have referred to it as betting $2 odds on the don't bet.

No worries, I started out with that terminology, but it morphed through several replies.

There is no vig on the odds bets. But not betting the right sum for the correct payoff will result in losing the difference.

What's funny is I've never seen a dealer allow an improper lay amount, but they will gladly pay $11 on a $10 place 6/8.

I think that the house/dealers consider one a bigger ball buster than the other.

We've done $10 6 & 8 bets on players' requests to do so, after suggesting and even pressuring them to bet proper units ($12, etc.) for their benefit.

I was thinking more about this and maybe it has to do with - on the pass/place side, you at least get paid some, even if it's shaved off, while on the don't/lay side, you're risking money to win nothing.
