I’m trying to craft a statement to concisely explain the proper strategy for certain blackjack hands.

Are these statements accurate—assuming 6 decks, dealer hits on soft 17?:

—If your bet is $1 every time you get a hard 12 against a dealer 2, over 100 hands, on average you’d lose $29 by standing, but $25 by hitting.

—If your bet is $1 every time you get a hard 16 against a dealer 10, over 100 hands, on average you’d lose $54 by standing, but approximately $53 by hitting.

—If your bet is $1 every time you get a 8,8 against a dealer 10, over 100 hands, on average you’d lose $54 by hitting or standing, but $49 by splitting. (no double after split)

—If your bet is $1 every time you get A,8 against a dealer 6, over 100 hands, on average you’d win $46 by doubling, but $45 by standing.

I’m seeking the accurate intersection of math and grammar!
Thanks!

Are you trying to explain it to friends? If so, since $1 tables don't exist, I'd add a zero to all your numbers. Then it sounds fine.

If you're trying to stop arguments at the table, I'd just say, "This is what the book says to do." If they start to question you or scoff at 'The Book,' say, "I'm friends with the author."

Thanks!

I'm trying to explain it to friends and a somewhat tough crowd: parents!

At the table, I'd definitely just say it's by the book. I have more important business at the table!

You are correct that multiplying the dollar amounts by 10 makes more sense, and sounds more dramatic, too!

Apologies for being pedantic, but I had to check, and Blue Lake Casino in California still offers $1 blackjack except Friday and Saturday, according to their website. I checked my log, and I won $47.50 from a $1 table back in August 2013. My guess is that I probably played a few $1 hands, then couldn't stand it any longer and started playing $5–$10 hands!

The way you are phrasing your answers is almost exactly how I presented it in my book The Blackjack Zone. I used 10,000 hands at $10 per hand.

I was going to suggest he read the Blackjack Zone. I didn't realize you were the author. One of the best books I've read for newcomers to the game.
I tried to send you a private message. You don't accept them? Or am I doing something wrong?
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

For kicks, I dealt myself 100 hands with 8,8 as starting cards against a dealer 10.

Expected loss: $475.38
Actual loss: $480

Math is amazing!

$10 bets, 6-deck shoe, dealer hits soft 17, double after split, Wizard's 3-card 16 vs. 10 best play.

Detailed hand results available upon request.
